So... I ordered within seconds of Amazon putting up the original SNES listing... and rather than deliver my order they are putting what stock they have on treasure trucks?

I can't understand it.

Okay, confirmed with another Unit that there are indeed slowdowns in SMW 1-4. Also, starfox appears to be running worse than I remember, with an even more stark contrast between fullspeed sections and frame drops with enemies on screen..

So far I'm a little disappointed, I hope DF does a full analysis of the emulation so that we get a better idea of what we're getting compared to original hardware.

This needs to be talked about more. “Faithful emulation” is one thing...but this.

WTF is a treasure truck?

I got mine at Target, as I was walking out I asked the last dude in line what number his ticket was, #74. More people were still showing up behind him too and it sounded like they had more to sell, so I’m guessing they got around or over 100 units. Way bigger crowd than for the Switch launch.

Yep Amazon are hit and miss for me now, especially when using Logistics. Tesco aren't perfect but they always use DPD and it always gets delivered before 11am. I'd say there's still a good chance you will get it today.

Yea they have been so random lately. I pre-ordered my Switch from Gamestop to collect it in-store and ordered Zelda from Amazon. It was 18:00 the day before launch and they still hadn't dispatched it. There was no chance of it being in my Parcel Motel on Friday, even if they had dispatched it that minute. I had to cancel the order and find it elsewhere, otherwise I'd have been stuck with a brand new Switch and no game to play.

Awww man, sorry to hear that. Hope it gets better in the future.

But like you said, at least you have an SNES mini! :-) Have fun with it!

Well I haven't seen him for 19 years so I doubt it! I haven't played most of the game on it (I was a Mega Drive Kid). Can't wait to get stuck into Super Metroid and FF6 for the first time.

Target comes through again! 1 per person and handed out tickets. They had 50 and I showed up at 6:45. I was 24th in line. The last ticket was handed out just before 7:30.

Me to my Amazon order right now:

They just want a hot item to market their trucks. Screw all he customers who stayed up until 4am and pre ordered.

It's so cute lol.

Here's my original, sitting next to the newborn.

Did you play with the switches on it yet? First thing I did was try to put my fingers in the cart insert panel, only to be disappointed it's a solid piece. :(:(:(

Put your ear up to the Rest switch, and flick it up, sounds similar to the OG model the way the spring gets depressed and releases :)

I sure hope so. I'm getting mine right at noon though

Did some more reading, looks like they hold on to it as they encourage you to cancel early for good karma if you know you won't make it. If you don't make it, they cancel automatically. Pretty pumped, had no idea this would be on the truck when I signed up for alerts yesterday.

Can someone explain how the treasure truck thing works? I signed up through the text message, it immediately pointed out the SNES Classic as available, then it gave me an address and said to show up between 12:00-8:00pm today.

So does that mean it’ll have the Classic reserved for me as long as I show up during those times?

Yep.

They scan the barcode on your phone and hand you the item.

Drove by target at 730, had a line of like 100+ people. said fuck it and drove to work. got a text from the treasure truck, got one in la. sucks, i used to work next door to the grove, gotta take a long lunch now and pick it up. whatevs, can't wait to play star fox 2

It's pretty terrible the Amazon is selling these things through treasure trucks already while not getting preorders out in time for release.

Scumbag amazon.

My amazon.co.uk order might arrive in the US before some US Amazon orders get delivered.

Yeah what the fuck.

Thank god I had a pick up order for Best Buy, everything was super smooth. I feel for the peeps that ddin't have a backup. Amazon straight shafting its customers

It absolutely makes sense. Have you never heard of a small startup failing when they blow up and can't meet demand? Or when a kickstarter rockets up into the millions and fails miserably.

Scaling up has non-linear costs. Nintendo likely scaled up as much as they could until cost got prohibitive or capacity was strained. If you don't understand that, then I don't know what to tell you.

And it's a long term thing, they need these factories continuing to produce SNES thru the rest of the year before switching back to NES (or doing both) to keep supply out there next year.

It's not that Nintendo is trying to screw everyone, they want to meet demand on this. It's just that production in the scale to satisfy every gamer that has nostalgia for he SNES era on launch day is not possible without either gigantic scaling costs or gigantic warehousing costs

I'm a big amazon fan but this is not cool. I would feel extremely burned if I had a preorder there. They don't even have treasure trucks in my area even though we have a huge amazon distribution center.
