mines been delivered!!! yessssssssssss

now to decide which game to play before i get home http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1398909

To be honest there are so many good games here you may as well just pick a random one that interests you and start there.

I had never played a metroid game so I played about 40 mins of super and really liked it. So i plan to play more of that. I personally never played much mario as a kid on my SNES. My main memories are Street fighter and DKC. I can still fire up DKC and play straight to the first mine cart level smiling all the way and remembering most the secrets and stuff.

But you have a lot to choose and anyone of the suggestions people make is valid. Its a fantastic system with an amazing library.

I did start yoshis world for the first time ever. I was enjoying it until baby mario fell off...... oh god I dont know if I can take much of that noise.

Did a quick run of the easy path in Star Fox and 100%'d the first two levels of Yoshi's Island. It's a good day to be a 90's kid.

Started playing a Link to the Past last night. It's my first fully committed to Zelda game and it's so fun! I'm not even progressing in the story. I'm just going around, exploring, trying to find stuff. It's great! Can't wait to keep playing when I get home.

So have any walmart 8/22 orders shipped yet? Mine still says arriving Oct 6 and preparing. Charge just fell off today after being held for a week.

How long does Walmart take to refund after cancelling a backorder? I cancelled last Friday.

My amazon finally arrived today, with cord extension cables too.

I've noticed at least 2 people who have specified an 8/22 order date who have been updated to "shipping."

I don't believe an 8/22 have actually received them yet.

So far it looks like none have.

Nope. Had two pending charges for it already and still nothing.

Are we allowed to whine about how we're still mad at Amazon for failing to communicate ANYTHING about the now very overdue preorders which they still haven't addressed with even an email?

Just as God (Miyamoto) intended. Having played the game to death as a kid, it's really hard to get back into that mindset when I play it. I 'know' where everything I need is so it's tough to turn that off just to go exploring randomly.

I'm tempted when the system hacks get released to put a randomized version on. That really brings that feeling back.

I didn't get a pre-order in from Amazon US, and I generally think they're an AMAZING company when it comes to customer service...but the lack of responses are shocking.

Same here, pending charge fell off today/last night :/

On the upside I guess my UK order finally has a little airplane next to it on the tracking page. First time moving since I ordered it.

Is there any harm in doing a dungeon early? I found a dungeon by where I'm supposed to find this village elder guy. I just completely skipped where I'm supposed to go for him and went for the dungeon. Apparently there is a treasure in here that will let me fight armored enemies.

When I first played it (before the internets) I couldn't defeat Ganon in the final encounter. I thought I had EVERYTHING and I definitely TRIED everything. Then eventually I realized the very center item (silver arrows) was missing, but because the layout of my inventory was symmetrical it looked complete.

Why the fuck does the usb cable say to unplug the system when not in use? That's kind of annoying.

I do what I want. Cable can't boss me around.

My Amazon UK order cleared customs and changed from an October 14 deliver to this Friday. I already have mine so seeing if any relatives want to buy the UK model at cost. Otherwise, I might just keep it on a shelf or maybe will see if someone wants to buy on GAF at cost + cost of whichever shipping option. After currency conversion, it ended up basically costing almost the same as the one I bought here (around $84). Family has first dibs though.

Doing the passport thing here and got my Mario World 96 exit completion. I started Earthbound last night and cleared Giant Step. Pretty hype for another playthrough since it is one of my all time favorite games (my only video game tattoo is the party walking down my forearm with Ness holding up the peace sign from when their picture is taken).

Please follow these steps to sync the controller:

1. Insert the receiver dongle into the SNES Classic console USB port.
2. LED light on receiver will blink red.
3. Press and hold the "Start" button on the controller for 3 seconds.
4. LED on receiver will stop blinking.
5. Controller sync is complete.

even though this was noticeably absent from the included instructions, I still feel kinda dumb. it's been working great now.

I had the same issue, and checked online for the answer. Syncing instructions really should be included in the manual.

I also have another problem: my A button does not work. I tried it in multiple games on my Wii U, and it only responds when I set it to auto-fire. Manual presses do not work. I will exchange it for another today.

Other than that, it seems to work just fine.

Edit: Oh, I also received my controller extension cables from Amazon. When I bought them they were $0.99 including shipping, and are now $12.99 from the same vendor. I was half expecting them to be a scam, but it shipped very quickly which was surprising because the original delivery date was for some day in November. The cords seem to work just fine in the short amount of time that I spent trying them out. They are no name, and have no markings on them whatsoever, but it was my favorite price.

kinda regret getting mine tbh. Its not even that the games dont hold up, they do, I just...dont want to play them?

Like, I did the first pendant dungeon in Zelda, played about an hour and half of Metroid, did the first 50cc cup in Mario Kart, and the novelty wore off fast. Dunno, I wont unplug it or anything, maybe ill get an itch for those games. I guess if nothing else its a easy way to access them whenever I want, should I want to.

Controllers are neat at least.

that certainly doesnt help. Like I bought it, knowing full well 3 days later I would be wanting to play Battle Chasers for example.

I had almost instant regret when I bought mine. i could have played these games any time i wanted in the past decade and never chose to do it once. buying this doesn't particularly make me want to play them any more. I just wanted to recapture a moment of my childhood by buying this I guess

I would be MORE than happy to take your SNES classic off of your hands.

Is there a snowball's chance in hell that I can find one of these before Christmas?

*Hello darkness, my old friend...*

After all the time I've been spending refreshing various tracking sites and apps I should have just gotten up out of bed early to have gotten one. I didn't because after reading about people lining up hours at Best Buys and other locations before launch time I figured I had no chance in hell of getting one. Oh well - will know better next time.

And I told myself I would not be going through this again after finally successfully acquiring a NES mini. The things I do for Nintendo.

My second wave Walmart order shipped. Don't they usually charge you before shipping it tho? No charge popped on my bank info outside of the initial one that dropped off.

Anyway, life is good! I was getting worried for a bit.

Yo, gzipped ROMs apparently work. It's almost like they were thinking of us.

https://www.reddit.com/r/miniSNESmods/comments/73w8gq/the_snes_classic_will_load_roms_that_are_gzip/

Thats pretty big news no? I mean you COULD run zipped roms through retroArch, but I prefer to keep the system as pure as possible and add some remaining classics I own.

On preordering news front: My first preorder MAY get cancelled, but my next preorder 3 days later is already shipped. That's sucks for those who thought they preordered one the first day and thought they would get it.

Has anyone heard about when major retailers will be receiving more shipments? I keep checking brickseek, zoolert, nowinstock and even i4u but they got nuthin'.

I guess I'm just impatient but I thought that Nintendo would be keeping this in stock through Christmas?

I'm also trying to remember how soon after the initial NES classic launch that retailer websites started announcing when they'd be putting up more online to buy (even if those very short windows were measured in seconds).

Anyone know of any other sites or any apps that I could also be checking with? And yes, I do get Wario64's tweets.

Thanks!

Started Castlevania IV tonight. I realized I had never played Castlevania IV before. I've been really let down by the soundtrack. ;(

The heck kind of expectations did you set that you were disappointed? CV4 is amongst the best music in the series. Second probably only to CV3 JPN version. It's obviously slightly dated, the samples are SNES quality, but the composition itself is god tier.

Been playing through Super Castlevania IV myself for the first time and yeah, the music in this game is terrific and really helps set the mood. That moment when I reached
Stage A and Bloody Tears hit
put the biggest smile on my face.

Yep, it's great. I just added Chrono Trigger which is usually 4mb, but gzip made it 2.5mb.

So I found out FF6 was on steam and wanted to see how it compares. My god that mobile art is hideous.

Yeah, but a lot is better.

- The game actually plays as intended, with vastly fewer critical bugs and broken mechanics.
- Character portraits used in dialog boxes.
- Improved spell effects.
- Nicer battle backgrounds.
- Additional content.

There's a lot to like about the mobile version. It's a trade-off.

So this has been hacked already?
Marginally. The software to do it the hard way is available. You've got to patch in headers/footers for all of your ROMs and handle the file management for descriptions and box art manually. If you're at all worried, give it another week or two and the dummy-proof, automatic tools will be released.

They probably were, at least the guys who worked on the emulator.

Yeah, it reminds me of the note one of the coders left in a file on the retail disc of Sega Smash Pack on the Dreamcast called ECHELON.TXT (Echelon was one of the Dreamcast warez groups) that had the following in it:

To whomever releases this pack..

Let me give you a few bits of info:

- I emulate a U.S. Genesis, including territory lock-out.
- ".sga" files are standard Genesis/Megadrive ".bin" files renamed.
- The emulator is looking for some parameters to be passed via Ginsu.
If you don't know what that is, you'll figure it out:

MDE_US.BIN ALTBEAST.SGA MODE2 SKIP0 SOUND0

MODE0 = standard, fastest video mode settings
MODE1 = slower, supports some extra features
MODE2 = slowest, includes window layers (used by some games)
MODE4 = same as MODE0 with background skewing

SKIP0 = no sprite skipping until maximum reached
SKIP1 = moderate sprite skipping, used to prevent major slowdown
SKIP2 = maximum sprites skipped

SOUND0 = standard sound emulation
SOUND1 = sound tempo increased

And don't forget to pay your respects to Uncle Sonic.
Sony just doesn't get it.

- Gary

That Gary also apparently went on to be director of technology at Capcom.

Can you gzip the official built-in ROMs to save even more space for additional ones?

No, the built in ROMs are in another read only place. Hacking is basically adding to the save state space.

Yes, with the caveat that you have to do a lot of things manually right now and it's seen as "a bit dangerous". The program to do it all automatically won't be far away, honestly.

Marginally. The software to do it the hard way is functional. If you're at all worried, give it another week or two and the dummy-proof, automatic tools will be finished.

Gotcha. Thank you.

I don't have any inclination of loading the thing with a bunch of useless stuff but there are about 20 additional games I'd add to it in a heartbeat to make the "perfect" little SNES machine for me.

Can you gzip the official built-in ROMs to save even more space for additional ones?

You can't, I'm afraid. Those are in a folder that is read only. The hack works by making copies of them to a new writable area, then setting that writable area as where the SNES Mini reads from. You can gzip the copies, but you're left with originals taking space too.

my thinkgeek order shipped out yesterday, will arrive friday.

i grabbed a pre-order friday morning 8:40am EST when a few slots re-opened, i'm guessing cancelled double orders/credit card declines.
