Google Pixel 2 - answers are coming Oct 4th

Honestly, I know it was just a concept video, but that Samsung foldable phone concept that was floating around here a few days ago was just too fucking cool.

I have a 6P. Is an upgrade to a Pixel 2 XL really worth it?

To me it is. So sick of my 6P and the battery issues.

:lol @ those Google Store prices on the cases for the new Pixel 2s.

Have you contacted Google support about your battery issues? They have been doing lots of device replacements for that issue even if you're out of warranty.

Why didn't you take advantage of the 6P RMA? I don't think Google's offering Pixels anymore, but you might be able to get a new 6P. Check the 6P thread here and on Reddit.

It's not the bootloop issue (that means that it fails to boot up, right? Basically it's bricked?). I heard something about there being support for that, but figured my issue didn't count.

I called tech support yesterday and they told me my only option was a battery replacement, but I'm in queue for another chat: maybe if I say the magic words "RMA" something new will happen.

Google really doesn't want to sell any hardware, do they. Still nothing for sale in Finland except Chromecasts. Not even Daydream headsets. Great way to get a new hardware platform started.

And all they'd need to do is ship to any EU address from the same place they ship to Germany.

If the foldable Note actually comes out next year, i will buy my first samsung phone. Thing looks so damn awesome

That's crazy. Once again a Google phone that is already beat before it's even released. I'd be happy with this phone if it weren't priced like a flagship phone but Samsung has them beat already in every way at that price point.

It is cheaper than the Note 8 and better than the S8+ not sure what you were expecting.

I have an S8 and really (begrudgingly) enjoy it. I now have the dumb Bixby button programmed to launch Google Assistant. I like having the expandable storage as well. It was also absurdly cheap at $375 with a year of netflix. :)

They were replacing 6Ps a couple of weeks ago just for the battery issue, even a year out of warranty, but so many people ended up doing it, that they soon stopped.

Switched my pre-order from white to black version of the Pixel 2. Rather get it sooner. Realized color matters very little when I'm just gonna put a case on it.

Yeah, support just told me again that they've got nothing.

That said, word on the street is the OnePlus 5, while not officially supported, might work on Google Fi. So now I'm thinking I grab that, and if it works great, if not, Cricket's not that much more expensive...

I think I'm just gonna either keep my current Pixel XL or upgrade to a larger storage unit tbh. The loss of the headphone jack and lack of almost anything else to make an upgrade worth it is just... ugh. Kinda frustrating.

Google also has a trade in option, and I think there's a Project Fi specific one for the Moto X4.

I have no idea what to do for a new phone now. I want stock android and early updates and my 6P is a mess, but the Pixel 2 seems a bit of an oddball for the price.

i'm honestly skipping to some other android thing now. I'm thinking Moto Play Z or LG G6.

I like my 6P a lot actually, but battery and non-expandable storage are actually causing me work problems now...

Lack of the headphone jack really is frustrating/dumb, but nonetheless it seems to be slowly a trend, so I'm just choosing to expect it.

I'm kinda in the same place. Really just want a flagship phone with stock or close to stock android and quick updates. Though the lack of a headphone jack is why I've lost interest in the XL2. I've decided to just get something cheap like the moto G4+ or G5+ until next year, and see what the OnePlus 6 is like, or if Google gets it together with the XL3.

I won't upgrade my Pixel this year but I will pick up the Pixel Buds. Actually didn't know that these and AirPods had batteries in the casing for portable charging. Makes going wireless very viable.

I don't want to do a trade in, because I'm doing some app development and want to keep a couple old devices on hand for testing. But yeah, the Moto X4 is the other option I'm considering. I'm just worried that it looks less powerful than my 2-year-old Nexus, and wondering if that's something that would cause problems for me down the line.

The pixel has got to be one of the ugliest flagships on the market, I just can't get over the bezel. I was hoping the Pixel 2 would be different, Samsung and Apple continue to be so far ahead on the design front

Design wise... I actually like it more than either the S8 or the X. Yes it is weird and has too much bezel in comparison. But it's also quirky and fun.

Plus I can't stand the cutout on the X.

Just watch the presentation, why is everyone on stage wearing a t shirt and jeans and why is every product they shown is a me too product.

There are at least 3 generations of shit apple has to catch up on, once in a while copying a good apple idea is warranted.

Now if apple can swallow its pride and actually not fuck up things they try to copy, it could be fun

Finally got around to watching the presentation, and it's just as unexciting as I'd feared. Real shame, considering how genuinely exciting the first Pixel was after it was announced.

I'm sure it's a fine phone, but not enough there for me (especially as someone who prefers smaller handsets and would go for the regular).

I wonder if the Pixel small was designed before Google realized it'd be a bezelless future and quickly reworked the V30 to make the Pixel XL.

It just doesn't make any sense

If the 5" had a 3000maH battery or greater, a headphone jack, and a really good DAC, I'd get it.
But I will never get a phone without a headphone jack, they're just bleeding customers for no reason.

Nokia 8:

It's already out in Europe, Middle East and parts of Asia and getting some solid reviews. A North American release should follow later this fall.

going through just about all the hands on impressions out there, one key take away point I'm seeing is people seem to love how it feels. Some kind of matte feeling finish makes it quite easy to grip, which is nice.

Feel like 90% of modern smartphones are either slippery smooth metal finish, or slippery smooth glass/ceramic etc.

There also does seem to be a bit of a curve on the 2xl, so.... good luck finding any of kind a tempered glass protector that can fit right.

Hardware logistics, etc. are hard. Apple and Samsung have much more established supply chains, manufacture, economies of scale, etc.

Better jump on that OP5. Their base model seems to be sold out and the people that ask about it being restocked get a non-answer that hints at the fact they might not make anymore now that the OP6 is rumored to come out early 2018.

Just get the S8+ or LG v30.

The last true android flagships that has android's ethos of giving the user options.

Not planning to upgrade for another year or so, but if Samsung or LG's new phones at that time still got the jack then I can see myself getting one of those.

Struggling so hard to decide between iPhone X or Pixel 2/XL.
On one hand, I'm deep into the Apple ecosystem as it is, I own an Apple Watch 2, Wireless Ear Pods etc. (I just sold my 7Plus so I might sell the rest and get out of the eco system).

I think I hate the size of the XL and Plus sized phones, but man that Pixel 2 is so ugly.
God damnit

EDIT: Maybe I'll just get a OnePlus 5.
Crazy how at first op5 looked real underwhelming. But considering its price and features it's definitely one of the best buys.

Stock Android is overrated. Had a nexus for years switched to Huawei and the experience is so similar it's whatever honestly. Most devices are near stock

3 years of software support is nice, I guess.

I have a Samsung and I crave stock or stock-like on an insane level. Most of the addons are gimmicks and just bog things down.
