Google Pixel 2 - answers are coming Oct 4th

Looking at the regular pixel 2 being by HTC (XL is LG) have to wonder if google buying the 2000 HTC engineers is the best use of a billion dollars

Definitely getting a 2XL. Was disappointed with Samsung/Apple this year so this was my last hope for a new phone this year. The Pixel 2 is awful looking but the 2XL is really nice.

First tech conference I've ever watched, jeez it was a bit awkward. The worst parts were easily the slight claps they occasionally gave to force the audience to clap, but the elongated pauses expecting claps were almost as bad.

Pixel 2 is a skip for me, still extremely happy with my Pixel XL. Will check out the 3. I want a Pixelbook but it's too expensive, ditto the Home Max. Will grab a Home Mini though, definitely. Hoping it's good for white noise because I've been looking for a replacement for our fan as my partner can't sleep without some ambient noise.

Really, really fucking wish they even attempted to justify the missing headphone jack. It was a giant elephant in the room. Makes no fucking sense to me.

EDIT: Also like that they're pushing the Home to be more kid friendly. It seems like it could be a fantastic device for kids to be curious with, without the risks of giving them free reign on the internet.

going through just about all the hands on impressions out there, one key take away point I'm seeing is people seem to love how it feels. Some kind of matte feeling finish makes it quite easy to grip, which is nice.

Feel like 90% of modern smartphones are either slippery smooth metal finish, or slippery smooth glass/ceramic etc.

There also does seem to be a bit of a curve on the 2xl, so.... good luck finding any of kind a tempered glass protector that can fit right.

Has anyone used Google's financing before? Can you pay large chunks of it off or is it only pay the minimum per month or pay it all off?

AT&T Next did that and it was annoying because I would have rather put an extra $100 here and there but it was planned out to 30 months and you either did that or paid it all off at once, no other option.

I have.

You can approach it in those three ways.

You'll be charged full MSRP and you can pay it in minimal monthly installments, all in one shot, or in bigger chunks instead of the minimum. I did this with the Pixel last year.

The Pixel 2 XL looks pretty cool. But the value isn't there for me. I think I'll just go with a OnePlus 5, it'll be half the price and I'll get a headphone jack, and I already have a DSLR so am not worried about a mediocre camera.

The standard model looks disastrous. I'm pretty sure my Nexus 5x has smaller bezels than that monstrosity.

Cool thanks, I thought it was annoying that I had to wait until the AT&T phone got down to a low enough left to pay off (like a year and a half later) to where I could just end it.

Why is the XL $200 more expensive? It's practically the same with just a larger screen, right?

The Pixel XL being $200 more shouldn't be seen as "they charged more because they could" but as "they can't charge as much as they want for the smaller phone because it's ugly and nobody wants it."

you should work for Google.

that or as a press secretary.

or a top factory manager.

i'm honestly skipping to some other android thing now. I'm thinking Moto Play Z or LG G6.

I like my 6P a lot actually, but battery and non-expandable storage are actually causing me work problems now...

Yeah, I went with a 128 when I got my 6P, and it was a good idea. I'm a bit over 64 GB now. Google is going to have to bring out a 192 or 256 model next year or think about re-adding expansion slots (they might not like it but they may not have much choice if the supply shortage on components for internal non-mechanical storage keeps up).

The battery is like just barely acceptable for a standard work day when it's "good" but it's one of the worst batteries I've had in terms of "product life", my 5 made it nearly 2 years before the battery became useless, the 6P battery needed replacing after about 12 months.

Why doesn't it have wireless charging :/

I almost convinced myself throwing money at the new buds would let me get over the headphone jack, but why am I going further backwards from wireless charging on my S6 when Apple have finally got onboard

Honestly, I think people make too much out of bezels. I have the original Pixel, and honestly, bezels on it have never really bothered me.

Same, I love the look of my Pixel XL. That said, for the price of the new models, you can't say that the Pixel looks as "premium" as the other competitors. The XL isn't too bad but I actually prefer the OG XL in terms of looks.

Also will OG Pixel get the new Google bar location and stuff? I see no need for it to move, love where it is currently. Never owned an Android phone before my XL and it's taken me almost the year I've owned it to get my perfect screen setup which I'm finally happy with.

Question for anyone whos done anything like this. I'm on Tmobile with five people on my family plan. They are offering half off a Pixel if I open a new line (will reimburse me for half of the cost of the Pixel). Can I open a new line on my plan and just cancel one too and still get this offer?

If so if I trade my OG Pixel into Google they are offering me $350 back. If the TMobile plan works, that's a free Pixel 2 upgrade.

You can cancel a line and open a new one. I will be doing just that. Cancelling a line I have no use for (S8 bogo) and adding a new one for the Pixel 2 promo. Afterwards, I will be canceling the new one in 8 weeks in order to qualify for the promo and not be penalized.

are the bezels on the pixel 2 bigger than the ones on the pixel? I don't really care about the size of the bezels on my pixel, so I wouldn't mind updating to the pixel 2 if they're a similar size

not too keen on the lack of a headphone jack, but i have a pair of bluetooth headphones too so it shouldnt be too bad

don't care for the phones. But Google kind of delivered on the other shit. All high quality stuff right there. I'm definitely going demo these and the Home Pods at best buy.

The screen to body ratio is ever so slightly less with the Pixel 2 vs 1, so yeah.. The user experience should be very similar though as far as holding them goes.

ill be skeptical until I see reviews. Had the hardest time finding any half decent glass protector for my s8+, especially one that can work with cases.

Also... $40? Really? We still overcharging for $5 screen protectors in 2017? Better be perfect fit and quality.
I remember paying $40 for one of the first glass screen protectors for my Galaxy Nexus back in the day. And then the stupid curved display would just pop it right off. Curved screens are the worst.

hm interesting

i'm not even really looking to upgrade for another year, but if there's a decent trade in deal i might do it
