The political threads (and the entire site)) did get better when Amirox was no longer here. If any poster had concerns about Hillary, he would show up and write 6 paragraphs about how she is the strongest candidate since George Washington. Meanwhile on election night, I'm watching the"strongest candidate" lose three states that had been blue for 30 damn years.



NeoGAF was in the top 5 sights that referred to the Hillary Clinton official campaign. Only CNN and Drudge Report beat out GAF. Pretty impressive stat there though.

I think the fragmented Gaf community just want to reconnect. That past 2-3 days without any statement really made people lost and didn't know what's happening.

They even thought that Gaf is not going back online thats why people just started joining different sites like Sl&** waypoint forums, discord and even gamefaqs to get hold on someone.

I know a lot of people felt awkward now posting ever since this news came out. So it's understandable if they make their own place in a relaxed atmosphere

Losing GAF is depressing as hell, but GAF is dead, if you're still posting here your brain broke. GAF is done. Do not support this website any more.

If you were in the discord you would see all of the people who made gaf great, ready to make another forum great. What you liked about GAF isn't coming back.

I never even knew there was a Discord, hell until this event I never even cared enough to find out what Discord was and now I'm left by the wayside

There is nothing out there that comes close to neogaf, not even now, in the state of this forum. Discord is not it, 4chan isn't it, Reddit isn't it, Giant Bomb isn't it, resetera will not be it (since gaming is absolutely secondary there), and Twitter isn't it.

The proof that there isn't a place like this on the net, is that people leaving, do their rant here, take a screen grab of post and reaction, and THEN post it elsewhere. You could PM Evilore, twit @neogaf, post your rant elsewhere, but still choose to do it here.

There will be new valuable members coming in, like always, and old members retiring, that's how it's always been, so I'm not too worried about this place.

People are do attracted to "celebrity posters" they figure its easy to manage and launch a good website. One which requires more than free hosting and servers, one which requires a real back end of networking.

Its not easy and 9 times out of 10 not profitable. It is a reason most gaming forums are secondary to something else.

And I also simply don't buy into "celebrity posters/mods" make a community. I been here for years and I've seen many popular faces come and go and the forums ticked on.

As i said no one is irreplaceable. New people will fill the void of the old. People will still post news here quickly etc.

For now, you're going to need invites (although the site isn't up yet). I'm in the running for the first wave. As far as I've seen, they haven't formally gone out yet, and I'm not 100% sure about member referrals at this point either.

Don't see why it is "sickening" for people to not want Tyler to profit from their activity and instead opted to create their own site for the community to migrate to, at the end of the day the community matters more than the URL you put into your browser to get to it. only for like the first hour or two. They are limiting the amount of registrations when the site goes live to make sure theres no issues with the servers etc. About an hour after that, they'll enable registration for everyone. So there's no need to ask for an invite as everyone will be able to get in on the same day it goes live.

Do you know what their process will be for verifying emails. I no longer have the paid/work email that I used to register on gaf. Just a standard gmail and .edu. I'm not in the discords for established OTs, so I'm not going to be in the first wave.

Hey, you're an older poster who I recognize, so I'll engage with you.

No one outside of EL and his accuser will ever know what happened because no one else was there. It's up to you to decide if you believe EL's story or the girl's. Personally for me, EL's history pretty much says it all, he has some psychological issues and needs help.

He is narcissistic and arrogant and never takes responsibility for his actions. Even the act of shutting down OT was completely self serving and in no way serving of the community.

The thing with the new forum is that they realize that VOAT, Reddit and every other cess pool of humanity that hated GAF and got off on fucking with the members is now targeting the new forum. No surprise as they basically hated everything GAF stood for and will try and do the same with the new forum. They already started raiding the discord channels and trolling the hell out of them and have already stated they want to do the same with the new website. Its going to be strict to get in at first till they can build up a community of good posters and let the site itself stabilize.

well, people are mostly angry at people that open threads JUST to make themselves permaban..i think if this were somehow contained in a single thread,people would not mind...but this way you are disturbing the navigation of the people that have decided to stay.
and before you wouldn't have seen it anyway because even if tere were so many single users deciding to leave,there were probably way more mods and things would be less noticiable.

People change all the time in the forum. Wario 64, Segata Sanshiro, and many other really valuable members went away and new members came and somehow filled the void. Even Amir0x had quite a following here.

It will be much harder now, since it was a big exodus of popular posters and mods, but I'm of the opinion that it can be rebuilt.

Yeah your heard me. You can't talk about those games with talking politics. It's integral to those games and in Civilisations case is based all around it. The whole idea of thinking gaming can be separated from politics is a fallacy and one paraded around here like it has some merit. Papers Please is an incredibly game and everything about it is political. Even Tetris is.

Nope totally agree, and I've been here long enough to remember when it wasn't as bad as it is now.
OT used to be really great, especially the tv movie and music threads but ot quickly turned into a political circle jerk with endless Trump, blm and social justice witch hunt content that ruined any other discussion.
I hope it never goes back to that and if ot does open they're very heavy handed on people who can't keep their politics off of GAF

Its also their fault they should have a Thread only for bans; at least they would separate the ones leaving inmediatly from the more attention seeking ones

I never said that he hates gays. I pointed out how he stated doesn't accept the gay "lifestyle," when in reality it's not something someone can accept or deny. It just is. Being gay is not a choice. Now, I'm not saying he should go watch gay flicks or go to gay bars with his brother or whatever. But the fact that he says that he doesn't ACCEPT that means that he doesn't understand homosexuality.

I pretty much came to gaf as a huge halo fan - still am. Halo 3 had a huge following and I foolishly spent more time arguing about the things I didn't like about 3 rather than just enjoying the community here. And ive made a lot of dumb posts in my time (see tag for reference). I didn't come to gaf because I thought the owner of the site was a wonderful person or because I thought all the mods were saintly. I came to talk about games and see gaming news. So it surprises me how many posters have immediately jumped ship and left upon recent allegations, true or untrue. Like if you are really that concerned about the morality of others and also your own self righteousness, you probably shouldn't go to any website/company ever. Because sure enough, somewhere at the top will be some flawed person or persons.

Maybe I should care more, but I've got my own life to manage and enough problems to worry about, and not the issues of someone else. So I'm hoping I can continue having discussions with other posters here. I see no reason to leave neogaf although I have nothing against those that do. Maybe that makes me a terrible person for indirectly supporting evilore's site through ad revenue. I don't know. But I don't think any of us know the full truth about what did and didn't happen and we may never know. So I'm not going to flail my arms and scream about how the owner of some site is a bad dude. Its just not worth it.
