I think we're reaching the tipping point for era now. Threads are more interesting on gaf now. It shifted quite recently I think, but just a few months back, I hardly bother to check the gaming side of gaf since it was the same handful of threads over and over from day to day. Now there's a lot more happening.

You would never expect to see an obvious step change in natural progression of ideas - the sudden change indicates it being artificial.
As far as it being directed, I am unsure.
I've said before that a lot of this is being generated from "human relations" departments (HR/PR) in these companies getting filled with people with useless college degrees that make it sound like they understand people. Some idiot hiring manager hears that someone has a degree in Women's Studies and thinks that means the person understand women. HR never has bright people to begin with, but decades ago we did not have universities pumping out debt-loaded people with no knowledge beyond being triggered.
It probably is just the result of universities learning that they can widen their consumer base and improve their margins by hiring some cheap blue hair professors. Teach someone chemistry, and you need a lab. Teach someone oppression, and you just need a podium.

There are people like Serkan Toto and Takashi Mochizuki who due to the nature of their business and position obviously have close links deep inside the industry. But others, if they aren't full of shit completely, are obviously just getting their inside scoop (lol) from some PR or community person giving them little nuggets of pre-approved information, or information that is already basically an open secret in the industry. That information isn't substantial at all but just enough for a bunch of needy forum nerds to jizz over each other and latch onto every word you post.
GAF was full of that shit and now they run amok in ResetERA and on Twitter too. Good riddance to those annoying twats on here but overall, the the quality of gaming news and discussion has fallen off a cliff in the last few years and is unlikely to ever recover.
