Building a PC isn't for everyone. I've been building PCs off and on over the last 10 years for business purposes and it's still not something I'd want to dabble in for gaming.
Some folks appreciate the simplicity of the console experience, myself included.
Price is another factor. I've been kicking around the idea of building a little M-ITX Gaming PC recently but no matter what build I put together it's over $600, and at that point the thought of a $350 Xbox One X just sounds like a better investment.

We don't know the price, full specs, or real world performance of these upcoming consoles, nor do we know exactly what PC parts will be available by the end of 2020, their exact performance, or their prices.

Could we not take some fairly well educated guesses? The prices and trends some fairly predictable at least to me, a layman.
8 core processor with 16 gigs of RAM. A 1tb SSD and then some kind of video card? Maybe something like 2060 or 2070? Probably a 500 watt powersupply (is that enough? No idea), some cheap micro ATX board? And we will ignore the case cause most people probably have one.
Would this be at least a reasonable guess? We can't be exact of course, just a guess.

There's several flaws with "build a PC" missionaries. Outside of the obvious that as easy as Windows is, there's still a ton of people who aren't tech savvy and can fix an issue. But we can go through a few major issues:
*PC gaming is bounds and leaps higher in the graphical department outside of framerate and that framerate is going to cost you a pretty penny. You're not going to get a $500 PC and knock out some 4K gaming at 60fps. PC gaming is not cheap.
*If you're illiterate with computers and how they work, have fun when something breaks. Windows 10 is almost drool mode easy compared to previous Windows, but there are still things that can hang up the average user. Especially if a game is crashing and no one else is having that same issue. On a console, it's pretty rare you're going to run into issues like that.
*We still get locked frame rates and bad ports on PC, even though it's less of an issue now. Shouldn't happen at all.
*If you enjoy multiplayer games, you need your friends to also make the switch. Take a wild guess how that's going to go. I have a couple of PC friends but the past 4 years, most of my MP time has been on console due to friends.
In no way am I against PC gaming. I love it! But I understand the streamlined convenience of console gaming.

By the time these new consoles come out, current Nvidia/AMD cards and AMD CPUs wouldn't even be in a comparison discussion, which make up the bulk of performance and price. And again, we don't even know the full specs or price of these upcoming consoles yet.

Literally dancing around a basic question.
Assuming a PS5 for example is running a 2060 for this comparison:
CASE: 30
OS: 80
GPU: 250
CPU: 150
MOBO: 50 (being super generous here)
PSU: 40
RAM: 30
Total: More than 600 even with more generous numbers. Take a super cheap CPU and it would still be over 500.
This is being super generous and would net you worse performance than a closed box. This also doesn't include buying a gamepad.
EDIT: Totally forgot about a SSD so that would add even more cost.

Can you expound on that assumption? I don't have any issues, and don't see why it's not as convenient than a console? I mean, are you typing this from your console with a controller? Or did you have to pull out a secondary device to respond on NeoGAF? I can game and a million and one other things on my pc, including responding on a forum. Pretty convenient in my eyes.
Edit: and what trouble would you experience? Do you not have updates to games, new firmwares? Disk storage to manage? Some games have alternative logins than normal xbl/psn? Having to wait while a bluray has to install to the hdd? I don't get how that's easier?

So let's use last gen for example. For the hardcore gamer, let's say they bought Xbox one, Xbox one s, and Xbox one x. Did you know that, plus Xbox live for the past 6 years, is much more expensive than a high end desktop? Even removing the Xbox one s from the equation, yields a minimum of 1$300 dollars just for the 2 consoles and xbl, with no games. Even just having a an Xbox one and xbl for 3 years, is more expensive than building a pc that will perform better than the best gen Xbox Sex or ps5.

Seriously though, I'm a console gamer and a PC gamer, how do you not see that PC doesn't fit some people's lifestyles? It's not about console better than PC or vice versa its an argument on preference and value for money. The Xbox One X is proof that you can have mid tier PC performance on a console due to the optimisation of games developed for console.. It's hard to dispute the performance at the price range of a One X. Again, not saying Console is better but a better choice for some. Next gen we will see 60fps at Dynamic 4K without texture downgrades etc. For $500 its very desirable. It's like buying a car, it's what is practical to the person and at their budget and needs. Who are you to tell someone that you must have this more expensive car because it's faster and more luxurious.

In my country, it's something that teens do in their first few years of getting their license and usually anyone under 30 unless you have them there for show or competition.

The reason why I care about the consoles' power and performance is because consoles are the things that set a generational baseline for developers to build their games on and this is VERY VERY IMPORTANT, so many people do not know about this at all.
I have a gaming PC and I'm planning on upgrading mine some time later or maybe soon, I play on PlayStation and PC, but to see consoles releasing this year with their specs is soooo exciting.
From 1.8 - 1.3 GCN TFlops, 8 cores Jaguar CPU at 1.6 GHz, 8 GB & HDD.
To 12 TF RDNA (or around it), 8 cores and 16 threads desktop class CPU clocked at 3.2 GHz (or around it), Super fast NVMe SSDs (possibly the fastest ever) & 16 GB of GDDR6 RAM with Hardware RT is very exciting.
I just can't wait to see what EA/Ubisoft/Activision with their new Call of Duty engine and ESPECIALLY Sony's 1st party studios and Rockstar Games will do, it will be magical, games will be HUGE and will play and feel next-gen.
And I have to say, PC players must upgrade their PCs because games will be built on these next-gen consoles, so they have to upgrade their PCs fast this time, because from what we have seen from many reports and rumors, consoles will have GPUs that are more powerful than RTX 2080.
And what we have confirmed now is their NVMe SSDs, 16 GB of GDDR6, Hardware Ray Tracing and 8 cores 16 threads equivalent to AMD's Ryzen 3700 CPU.

I'm just recovering from having used Windows for a decade. Went from a laptop to a desktop PC I built in 2014 because of The Witcher 3. It wasn't the hardware, it was the freaking OS that cost me way too much time and stress over the years. Never EVER again. I'm done with PC gaming.
