whole heartedly disagree. This is totally different circumstances. The only reason xb1 was more expensive was due to kinect, so thats not a factor this time around. You also have to keep in mind the mindsets in 2013 and now in 2020.

In 2013 Sony was coming off a shocking gen where Xbox went from new-comer selling a measly 25 million units to a powerhouse with the 360 that could actually go toe to toe with Sony. They caught Sony on their heels so Sony had the mindset of needing to assert themselves. The result was a more powerful console at the same price (console only).

Bring that to 2020 where MS are the ones who were caught on their heels and got embarrassed. They are the ones who need to assert themselves and really go all out. MS would be the ones willing to take more risks this time around, its only logical.

If you are expecting Sony to pull another PS4 this gen then i honestly think you are for a rude awakening. Regardless, the PS5 will sell like hot cakes and have exclusives a lot of people like so does it REALLY matter? See, thats exactly Sony HQ’s thoughts as well. They know they can cheap out a bit and still be fine.

The PS5 will be more than capable but i sincerely believe that if you must have more power then you will have to also invest in an xbox this gen.
i dont think i said that the ps5 will be 40% more powerful AND be a $100 cheaper. in fact just a few posts before that, i said that both consoles will be $499 and within 1 tflops of each other.

And even if you take out the kinect which is precisely what MS did, they were a $399 console with 1.3 tflops and ddr3 ram going up against 1.84 tflops and gddr5 ram. same price, much much worse specs.

that design was a massive fuck up on Microsoft's part. they wanted it to be a multimedia machine first and they couldnt have put a 1.84 tflops apu in with esram to compensate for the ddr3 ram they needed for the os. it was shortsighted, their priorities were all wrong, and their execs absolutely clueless thinking they would sell more consoles at a $100 more. what I am saying is that sony's pr fuck ups do not mean sony also fucked up on the hardware like Microsoft did last gen.

im sure ms is taking more risks this gen. but to imply a 9 vs 12 tflops difference at the same price means sony fucked up. Cerny who has gone on to make the fantastic vita for $250, and the very capable ps4 and pro for $399, will all of a sudden fuck up and design a 9 tflops console while MS launches the same priced console at 12. This scenario doesnt rely on MS asserting themselves and taking risks, it simply implies that sony fucked up. and im not buying that. its like those github leaks. a 2.0 ghz gpu is an extremely poor way to design a console. you have to believe cerny is a terrible engineer to believe that. i dont.

ive been saying this for a while and i still believe both consoles are using the bigger navi. both have at least 60 cus with 6 disabled. MS looks to have a gigantic chip so perhaps they went with 64-70 CUs but that doesnt mean they can increase the clocks as well. for sony to come in at 9.2 tflops, they would need 54 cus at 1.35 ghz. its plausible, but ms would need 64 CUs at 1.475 ghz to hit 12. how can MS have 15% more CUs and 10% higher clocks at the same budget?

I would rather play God of War 2 again than God of War 4... and no, new is not always better. I bet there are hundreds of old games you haven't played that you would love a lot if you ever tried them.
and trying old games with no hardware to play them on is pretty hard if it's not super easy to emulate.

I've been replaying Crysis 1 again lately on PC, and that game is still a better single player shooter than almost any modern shooter aside from maybe Doom and Titanfall 2.
the moment I've discovered how much I love MegaMan Legends was when Kyle Bosman talked about Tron Bonne on Final Bosman... I then remembered how I always wanted to try the MMLegends games. so I loaded Tron Bonne onto my PSPgo and loved it... after finishing it I instantly got Legends 1 and so on.
there are so many old games that I haven't played but potentially would love to death... like MMLegends... and thanks to the pretty damn good PS1 compatibility of the PSP I had an easy way to play these games.

You’re talking about one old game over another old game.

Would you rather play God of War 2 or God or War 5?

As long as you have plenty of new games to play then you won’t need old games at all, especially ones from prior generations.

My sources just verified to me on the phone that everything this guy mentions is 100% true. And yea, the Xbox Series X is indeed more powerful than the PS5. Even the price he mentions is correct. So I would believe that PS5 = 9TFLOPS and XSX 10TFLOPS

Not to discount or take away from anything you said but alot of it seems wrong and highly unlikely what are chances you's share a source aha

ok let's say that I never played God of War 2 OR God of War 4... and both were new to me, after trying both for a short period of time to decide which one I would like to play more, I would chose God of War 2 over 4.
there are old games out there that easily surpass newer games in the same genre.

if someone handed me DMC5 and DMC3 to try (again with both being new to me) and choose what I want to play I would choose DMC3.

that's my point, there are older games that are simply better than many newer games. that's especially true for some genres like FPS, Platformers and Point n Click adventures.
so why not have the best of both words? have new games release but also the option to discover old games that are NEW TO YOU... these games will be like new games to you so they are no different to a brand new release TO YOU... so why does it matter if they just came out or if they are just being discovered by YOU.
if you play a game that is NEW TO YOU and you love it, how the hell does it make a difference when the game came out?

so fuck no to the notion that new games are better than old games. because equally, if you knew all the old games you haven't played yet that will definitely be of your taste and that you would love if you ever played them... if you had a magical list like that, I bet there would be enough games there to last you a couple of years.

That should appease the 5 or so people that play BC games. :messenger_grinning_squinting:

If you look at the actual data it's obviously a lot more than a paltry few, otherwise neither company would be bothering with BC in the first place.

You know, there's a reason people don't apply this logic to, say, movies. Because it's an illogical statement.

Yes, the technology of game consoles nowadays blows away anything in the past, just like how PS5 and XSX will blow away all consoles that've come before. But that doesn't mean the games are going to be better.

Many people still consider Uncharted 2 the best of that series, and it's only the first sequel for the IP, on the PS3 at that. Many people still consider the first three Halos as the best of that IP, and none of those were made on XBO (the first two weren't even made on 360). Gran Turismo 4 is still seen as the pinnacle of the GT series by many in terms of pure gameplay, design, features and car roster (and other things like OST), etc.

There's a reason people still play Super Mario 64 and why that game is held in high regard even though we have new ones like Odyssey. And I can't even tell you instances where certain games in fighting series are seen as generally better than the newer ones (Virtua Fighter 4 > Virtua Fighter 5, SF3: 3rd Strike > SFIV > SFV, Tekken 3 & Tekken 5 > Tekken 7, etc.).

NEVER throw away the past just because it isn't new; people can't try claiming gaming as a genuine medium of creative expression if they then want to disregard older games regardless of their merit just because they don't have the newest, shiniest graphics. People don't do this with movies or music, why is it so hard to keep that with gaming?

What were his other speculations?
he said the ps5 was equivalent to a gtx 1080. supposedly his friend at naughty dog told him this.

1080 performance is worse than the 5700 which is a 7.9 tflops gpu. back before rdna gpus were revealed, he was predicting 9 gcn tflops. lol he stuck by his 1080 prediction until november, well after the rdna gpus were released. after the xbox 12 tflops revealed, he upgraded his prediction to 1080ti which has 3 more nvidia tflops which is bizarre because he says he has a source who told him 1080. so apparently his source's ps5 magically gained 3 tflops since november.

Thanks for the reply i see 5700 and 1080 are close but not on par. Interesting although at 2ghz a 5700 is around the 9tf github gpu i think which would shoot it well past the 1080

The two systems may have big chips but they still need room for the ray-tracing. At this point it is still a speculation game, however while Cerny is a genius, he isn't the only genius. Both companies have some excellent engineers and there's also enough out there to speculate that at least at some point, Sony might've had different plans for PS5 performance targets in mind.

But that's why, in all of this, we can't say that either the Github/GPU benchmarks or the insiders have the full story on either system. In fact it's better to assume that upper staff at both companies likely have a better grasp on where each other are at and aiming for, than both the leaks/benchmarks and insider camps.

i have conversed with penello who knows the xbox specs since he was with MS till the end of 2018. he told me that the reason he thinks the ps5 is 8 tflops is because they are targeting $399. so yes, i agree, both sony and ms know where they are. but that means there is a $100 price gap between the two which is completely different than the implication that sony fucked up and launched a $499 9 tflops gpu.

for the record, i think penello and ms top brass are mistaken. they probably based their theories on the github leaks which they likely found before anyone else. the reddit leak in january that first mentioned the 4 tflops lockhart and 12 tflops anaconda with just 16 gb of gddr6 ram, also mentioned that the ps5 was 8 tflops and 12 gb ram. wouldnt be surprised if that was a controlled leak.

Very few people would go back and play the old games unless they were remastered.

I’ll give you this though. BC is very handy to have in the first 12 months of a consoles life because that’s when there are so few new games to play.

You can’t apply the same logic to movies because they age better. I was kidding with the 5 people wanting to play it statement obviously. It isn’t Stadia bad but I’d say it’s less popular than the current state of VR.

It’s a niche segment overall.

So PS5 was delayed from the original 2019 release date for the 5 sony bros that wouldnt get bc, right?

Delayed from 2019? That was never announced as a date and if it were true then TLOU2 and Ghosts would have been PS5 exclusives from the get-go given they both launch this year.

It’s like those guys who argue everyone has a top of the line PC when it’s far from the truth. Sure my opinion isn’t universal but it’d easily be the majority.
Those guys are full of shit, just like you.

We constantly see remakes/remasters/old ports recurring over and over again.

There’s a huge market for “old games”.

Just cause you aren’t interested, doesn’t mean others feel the same way.

I don't byte this 'PS5 is weak because they want it cheap', that goes against this quote:

"Cerny was asked to define the console’s price range, the veteran designer said, “I believe that we will be able to release it at an SRP [suggested retail price] that will be appealing to gamers in light of its advanced feature set.”

This definitely means it won't be 399.

I don't think anyone mentioned this but XSX could have a huge advantage on ps5 if they upgrade all the lastgen games to 60fps and sony just goes with regular BC with out upgrades.
Having no BC at all didn't hurt Sony this gen. This is the number one feature as far as a difference in actual sales effect vs online rhetoric. BC being a little better on Xbox won't hurt things at all if that happens

Yeah that guy is a huge PC fanboy we all know that 😇😇

Next-gen consoles were a GTX 1080 equivalent then all of a sudden they became RTX 2080s or even beating it. (12 TF RDNA does beat it indeed).

That tells you right away that he or his sources are bluffing into thin air 🤣🤣

What Klee, Matt and Jason Schreier are all saying to me is that both consoles are gonna be 12 TF or even more, with the PS5's GPU beating Xbox Series X by "such a small sliver you won't even notice" as Klee said in one of his posts.

I’ll give you this though. BC is very handy to have in the first 12 months of a consoles life because that’s when there are so few new games to play.
Picture this: you have this huge catalog of PS4 games, which you paid a lot of dough for. A new generation without BC means the moment you trade/sell your old console for the new one, you lose everything and there won't be many games to play at the start. So you wait some time before jumping in.

Now the same situation with BC: you trade/sell your current gen console for the new one, but this time you can bring all your catalog with you, and use it to help alleviate the initial drought of next gen games. Such an idea makes you want to jump much faster.

And this is how BC helps to keep the current installed base and makes everyone migrate much faster.

It’s a niche segment overall.

If it's a niche segment, then so is VR, yet Sony for example is investing in both so regardless if it's niche or not it certainly is sizable and lucrative enough to warrant investment into, just like VR.

There's varying levels to niche; some are bigger than others but if companies the size of Sony and Microsoft are investing into a 'niche' like BC, then they've obviously decided there's money there. Plus, saying no one wants old games is pretty disingenuous; when you look at mention of say BC on PS5 for PS4/3/2/1 games on Youtube it's one of the more talked-about aspects of that system. Some of the most revered games of this generation are basically old games given a new coat of paint, like RE2 Remake, Shadow of the Colossus, Halo: Master Chief Collection etc. In fact one of the biggest anticipated games people are looking forward to right now for next-gen launch is BluePoints Demons Souls...remake....of a 2007 PS3 game.

So let's not downplay BC or appeal of old games when some of the most notable games this gen have been remakes and remasters of old games. As to the part of movies aging better...that's not necessarily true. Film techniques and technology have also evolved. I can still play Pac-Man or SMB just fine today, but watching a silent B&W movie from the super-early 1900s? Much harder sell.

Even movies from just a few decades ago, some of them have aged pretty badly considering where things are now. Look at Johnny Mnemonic for example, the cyberpunk ideas in that movie are ridiculous knowing where tech actually went just a few years after that movie came out. OTOH, I can still fire up SM 64, or Panzer Dragoon Zwei, or Final Fantasy VI, and those games are still as fun now as they were when they first came out (and still visually appeal artistically speaking).

I was thinking how crazy would be if PS5 could be able to run 2 (or even more) instances of the base PS4 and deliver it through Remote Play to different persons playing in different places, different games, at the same time... 😂

While you are at work you could turn on a Uber mode where your PS5 works as a PSNow server by some PSN Credits.

I don't know is possible, but would be crazy see something like that.

Some foolish statements I have read on this thread:

- Sony is afraid to show their console because they have the less powerful console.

- Sony isn't confident in their product that's why they don't wanna reveal it.

- MS caught Sony out off guard, Sony has no clue what to do.
..........................

I mean bruh... who started talking about next gen back in April 2019??

Who talked about the SSD & how it's going to play a big role in the next gen consoles??

Who showed a LIVE video about the speed of the SSD in action??

Who talked about the new revamped UI & the new futures of how you can launch 2 games at once??

And the list goes on...

What MS showed?
A black box
The same controller with a new share button that was on PS controller for 7 years now...

People need to calm their tits, Sony has said & showed way more than MS.

But since then, Sony fell silent around project scarlet e3 reveal.

Hmm, do i smell the fear of silence?

Maybe Mark Sony wont fail on incompetence, but more from a lack of courage to step up and away from following past success.

Hmm from some leaks, sounds like ps5 will be about 10% slower. Perhaps this why Sony is scared shirtless about how to price to compete.

Sony also had to engage Azure as psn cloud provider, now they become slave bind toMSFT contract.

I would thought they engage AwS. Maybe besides the contract terms , they figure MS won't likely to spy on them, unlike Aws or Google who don't have the strong gaming knowledge.

Like Phil Stadia is fucking up for Google
