Microsoft Games Showcase Event Today (11am ET / 8am PT / 4pm UK)

How do you people think this is a wasted opportunity? We are going to see games running on the series X. I honestly wouldn't care if it was ps5 either but this is next gen gameplay. Its also good for xbox because they continue to control the news cycle and mindshare all while still having so much more to show. Also I expect Sony to show something this week as well. Maybe Sony gives an event date, a new game reveal etc. Even if it was reversed and sony was doing the third party event WE Win as gamers. Its gonna be a good week. It doesn't matter if you are a console warrior. Sit back and enjoy.

Microsoft must strive and make Sony dificult.

Then Sony will have to work hard and that's the players will win .

Perfect balance

I'm interested to see how Halo stacks up on Series X over X.

Given that's their 'big' launch title it really needs to go all out but I feel most people will not see enough of a jump to warrant the price difference / upgrade if they already own an X.

I guess series X will be:

60fps / 4K / Raytracing

for £499.99

And X will be:

60fps / 1440p

For £199.00

That's a resolution bump and RT for ££299... That's a pretty hard sell.

If you add Lockhart into the mix you might see:

60fps / 4K

For £349.00

I honestly don't know what MS are doing with this strategy. If those performance predictions are pretty much correct the Series X will be a bit of a hard sell imo.

Can't wait for Microsoft to show off the new features of the system then remove them 2 years later

Besides resolution I guess the game will simply also look substantially better on the SEX?

Not expecting any other big games there other then valhalla. Would be amazing if they would show like new forza trailer and make next gen racing visual level.

The Lockhart is said to be a 1080p machine... Maybe discless. If its true there's plenty of parents who would happily buy it over the more expensive xsx and ps5

There's no way to compare that until after launch. Why? Because the games shown during Sony and Microsoft's events won't be the same due to marketing partnerships with the publishers.

And let me tell you, there's no point in comparing the graphics of, let's say, Elden Ring (Microsoft) and the new Batman game (Sony) because those are two really different games made by two different developers.

You can't do direct comparisons obviously, but there are some transient comparisons that could be had even if they're different games by different teams. I.e there could be certain system features or advantages being utilized only that given system provides.

How noticeable any of that will be (if it happens)? Dunno. If it needs a 400x zoom-in meticulous microscopic focus and explicitly pointed out (or has to specify a measure of time in fractions of a millisecond), then it wouldn't be that noticeable to me xD

Significantly better textures, framerate and resolution and graphics that look real. I think the biggest change will be the lack of load times and games being immediate.

Neither of those things would make the visual side of things look more "realistic", they would just allow for quicker flow of data from storage to RAM and from RAM to the CPU and GPU. And I honestly doubt load times will be eliminated if games grow even larger in scope and sophistication during next-gen, which is most likely. I mean we've had load times since PS1 and Saturn even though PS4 and XBO had disc drives and hard drives way faster than the 2x CD-ROM drives of those 5th gen consoles. So why did we still have load times?

Well because the scope and complexity of games continued to increase. Not to mention, things like more realism in game visuals is going to have to come from the graphics artists and pairing that with machine systems such as AI texture sampling and DLSS-like techniques, stuff that'll help artists cut down on the manual labor of raw asset creation.

Not that faster storage won't help there as well; it does. But it comes in a different way. And as a whole in terms of wanting more realistic graphics, again, less/no load times and "immediate games" don't really factor massively into accomplishing that.

Never liked Halo, im hoping for new great ips. On this show for third parties, expecting Bats to show up, and a few surprises come on!

Any idea how long the event might be? An hour? Or 90 minutes like they do at E3? I bet the bigger showcase in June might be 90 minutes-ish long!

I know EA Play coming in June, but any chance of anything EA at this event on Thursday?

Whatever happens, I hope it's at least an hour of amazing games and announcements.

Regular Inside Xbox is like 45 minutes. If anything like that I'd bet on an hour. I hope it's much longer and full of surprises though.

I bet the bigger showcase later on won't be digital only or it will at least have a bigger budget appearance.

Theres will be a point where keep building Jaguar based SOCs will be even more expensive that Zen 2.

Dates for more shows from Keighley tomorrow and we finally get to see games on Thursday, going to be one hell of a week.

The only downside to this event is that any Series X exclusives that get teased won't come out for another 2 years at the very least.

I'm hoping for unique third party games on Thursday that wouldn't get coverage anyway.

EA already set a June day and all the big publishers are surely going to have their own day or tag along for Summer Game Fest.

It would suck if Thursday is all EA, UBI and big name games which were just going to see again a month later at other digital events.

Lucky for you it's a 3rd party event.

No need to get hyped or disappointed.

Same games will be out on the PS4 and PS5.

Hooray.

I just saw a video that showed a tweet by someone official officially stating no Halo on Thursday. RPS am cry.

I just realized the title of this thread is extremely misleading.
How so?

If you bother to read the OP before commenting the information is obviously there.

If you choose to reply to the headline, that's on you.

Eh who'd expect no first party games at a platform holders event? I think it's worth clarifying.
Pretty sure they did, awfully quick, and at least a week before you commented on it.

The fact that they have enough 1st party titles to do a separate event really says where their head is at right now.

We both know probably half the people who enter a thread read the OP, if that.

Either way it does no harm clarifying.

More on topic: I'm excited to see what they show. I hope Geoff does a preshow or aftershow. I love hearing from the devs.
Don't think Geoff has anything to do with this one, unless they shoehorn him in.

Sony's messaging has been shit thus far so Sony only gamers will finally get to see something interesting beyond cardboard cutouts

Well then most gamers are kinda blind from gaming all day. Just watch back and you see those are just people. You can see them moving...

Idk what in the actual fuck you were trying to say lmao. Someone mentions sony and there you are, babbling off some random nonsense 🤣🤣🤣

Who is that?
Creative guy from deepsilver.

Well yeah it's only 3rd party... So before you're going to be even more disappointed this means no Forza, Fable, Hellblade, etc.

IIRC when the event was first announced the rumor was it was "mostly" third party. I dunno tho. I haven't been keeping that up to date with this stuff if you couldn't tell.
