NeoGAF Ban Review/Justice Project

Obviously I haven't been here long, but I just want to say that there hasn't been a single decision made with the except of banning a Spam Bot that didn't have multiple eyes on it. Decisions are not made in haste.

Often times I see reports of trolling or console warring, and the comment that is report most definitely is that... in a vacuum. But then going to the thread and looking at it you see they are in a "mosh pit", often times not throwing first punch. And then taking into account that the OP isn't always genuine. The OP often sets the tone for the thread. That is why I will post and nicely say "Lets stay on topic, take the warring to PMs". And now I've been made aware of a thread dedicated to it : )

But you don't have to worry whether I myself am too conservative or heavy handed, because I don't make decisions alone. Except again in regards to Spam Bots.

Spam Bots are people too.

NeoGaf is racist against Spam Bots confirmed!

Yeah, looking forward to TLW's War & Peace length essay, lobbying for excellent, unbiased Sony Warrior, Gamernyc :messenger_winking:
Ya. Get your calculator ready to find the ratio between # of words vs. paragraphs, where each paragraph argues why Gameryc should be kept without needing a warning and how the other side is running rampant.

I am death, destroyer of Spam Bots

I know this is off topic, sorry, but I just gotta know, what's the story behind your user name? What can I say, I'm a curious (and nosy) cat :messenger_beaming:

I've pronounce Water as Wooder all my life. Always had it pointed out to me. And saying Soap & Wooder also often sounded like Soapy Wooder to people.

Always stuck with me so I named my account Soapy Wooder.

Thank you for the explanation and for satisfying my curiosity.

Well-behaved Gaf citizen GamerNYC78 called out problem posters Arcadia and Mista, for their detrimental effects on this forum.
Wait, he posted you in his meltdown thread? I remember he was really sore about @Mista. He literally made that attention thread the day his temp ban was lifted.

My favorite GamerNYC78 moment was when Bill of Rights very kindly reminded him of all of his previous offenses. It was so good that I think -Arcadia- later turned it into a copypasta against Xaero Gravity.

Oh hell yeah, could be even more entertaining.

This. Lol. Keep in mind these are all copypastas from various Gaffer meltdowns and rageouts, and the three of us are really good friends.

Also, on a related note, that time I turned into GamerNYC.

Ayo fam, we keeping that same mindset, from the forums to the streets, ya feel me? For real, my man, that's the one. Lookin' a little goofy 🤭but Ima think this one hit different. 💪💪💪

Goodnight sweet prince. :messenger_pensive:

Looks like GAF is going to miss out on fan trolling last liners. A Gamernyc trademark. Enter a thread (Flight Sim 2020) and somehow detour the conversation to Last of Us 2 animations.

I appreciate you on politics side, but oh the irony on gaming side. It's like you're two different people. Of course the same could probably be said about me as well.

Far too many smart people take a willing IQ drop the second they press on Gaming.

We need a lot less tribalism, and a lot less letting console wars, and even actual dumb people, antagonize us and drag us into behaviors we wouldn't otherwise exhibit.

I never surface, I only swim in the deep ends of the pool.

Back in the days before the world turned to shit and the radical far left regressives were funny instead of scary, I used to spend a lot of time on Politics and always found you to be a great poster.

Even though you're Team Blue and I'm Team Green (and Red now too) I generally find you to be one of the most reasonable Sony fans and frequently enjoy your posts on the Gaming side. I also like your appreciation for Xbox music videos :messenger_winking:

Why did this earn a ban of any sort, much less a permanent ban?
Straw that broke the camel's back. You're next

Like clockwork although the odds on favorite to be the first lobbyist was TLW

Because he did what he always does, downplay anything Xbox related while simultaneously praising something PlayStation related. Tell me what does The Last of Us Part II have anything to do with Microsoft Flight Simulator? It's time to stop acting surprised at the behavior of blatant fanboys. Especially those who have a long record of such childish posting.

I could be wrong, but wasn't the emote introduced around the time of GamerNYC meltdown? Could be wrong, but that emote should be honored in his memory.

Guys, trust your mods a little bit more, instead of just going off the latest post. Tbh, I guess I've been guilty of the same in the past.

This guy seemed to have had countless warnings, bans, an entire meltdown thread, etc., and just kept on going. Hands were extended at every opportunity and slapped away.

At what point are the people that run the site, obligated to put up with someone that defies their simple request for decent, sociable behavior, over and over and over again?

Same for Nola.

Although my first temptation was to come in here and say, 'Gaming trolls keep dat same energy', no. I hope he does well for himself. Gaf, though, has rules for a reason. It's not too much to ask to show the tiniest bit of decorum or respect for them.

It's not a matter of not trusting the mods, but maybe 3-6-12 months ban would feel like a perma. If someone not throwing extremely offensive insults, or fake insider hurting the forums reputation, 3-6-12 months should do enough damage.

Of course, it's just a suggestion. EviLore EviLore

I tend to agree with this. Matt404AU had a suggestion I liked, where the bans get longer every time, until people are essentially giving themselves absolutely brutal bans by not behaving.

But it works like it works, and likely for a reason. Evilore has been running a forum for 20 years, has probably gained a lifetime of knowledge and insight into such things, and I definitely defer to him.

For what it's worth, because I remember what losing Brap felt like, I'm sorry that you, all his friends, and the guy himself had to have this happen. Sometimes we get caught up in the memeing, or some people have vendettas, and it's forgotten that even if someone didn't conduct themselves in the best way, it's still a person, with friends, a legacy here, etc.

All the more reason to knock off these ridiculous 'warz'. Going until a forum has no choice but to show you the door, is an utter waste, but something can be learned from it, for both him and us.

I got him on PSN, no worries not gonna miss him there :lollipop_tears_of_joy: . He's a bit high in adrenaline, but my suggestion is not just for him, but all. It was a sad ending. Been/still a mod/admin on other forums since 2002 myself, and know that you can as well choose the ban longevity manually in those php foums, or hinder a members ability to post in specific sections of the forum. I think such bans will save the headache from constant appeals/adjustments, and the banned member will think twice next time he comes back.

Anyway, the staff will choose what they see fit.

People seldom change, especially when they're delusional enough to believe their own bullshit.

Maybe one day he can come back and conduct himself.

But I'm sure it's a relief for the several vocal members. But I agree that permabans should be about to be overturned (within reason), but if that person fucks up, lengthen the sentence.

The Strength emoji gives me... muscley things.

Gamernyc-thing, for whatever he claimed to do in his spare time from GAF, he certainly didn't behave in an acceptable way for much of his tenure. He's able to take a step back but his constant lowkey ribbing is a thing best preserved for his circle of close friends.

I dunno, what did those spam bots really do to warrant a lifetime ban? Looking through the posts I see nothing really breaking the rules just an awesome deal to get viagra really cheap.
And more to the point, where am I getting my cialis from now? Are mods going to supply these all of a sudden? Mods? MODS?

LOL Banned. :messenger_tears_of_joy:
