Say what you will about TheLastWord but he rarely, if ever, resorts to insulting people. He attacks companies, not other posters.
I never said he was attacking people. Just that he is a fanboy as extreme as it gets and manages to avoid a perm for years on end now. So people receiving perms for being fanboys must act pretty exceptionally stupid. Insulting people over their toy preferences is one example for that.

I know. I was just explaining why I think his takes are tolerated. There are lines he doesn't cross.

My bets are on that Vawn will have a meltdown in this thread the day his temp ban lifts.
Well if he's reading the thread right now I hope he sees me saying that he was only banned for a few days and should honestly be humble and apologetic when he returns. Don't throw the account away on your pride even if you're sure that you're in the right the smarter move and the better move is to ingratiate yourself to the mods and overtime build up your image in the community. You could reach a point where such arguments would be respected should you still choose to argue them.

There are no men on the internet.
Where did he post that? If it's true I'm ready to do a good time belly laugh. I'm just picturing someone looking at our anime girl AVs and saying, "How dare you play mind tricks on me! You're not a real man!"

Edit: Found it. 😆

Hey mods/admins. A month or so ago I made a new account because I was having some trouble remembering the password to this one, but after a few more tries I managed to get in just fine.

Just now I found an email saying the new account was activated, though, so I thought I'd let you know in case you want to deactivate that one. The new account is @MikeOnTheRadio

Now I can finally say mods started treating users equally, but it's really necessary to ban people like GamerNYC78 permanently? He was a PS warrior, but also a funny guy. Neogaf without people like him would not be the same place for sure.
He had warnings, he was temp banned, and he showed no sign of changing. His immediate response to his temp ban was this "work":

Imagine there are visiting game journalists or people interested in joining NeoGAF for relevant gaming threads and they see crap like that. It hurts the site rep when you have loose cannons like that. Trolling gamers should have died out when Yahoo Messenger and MySpace bit the dust.

What's up with this recent idea that if you burrow yourself in the community, any kind of behavior will be acceptable? This is my second, maybe third time seeing it.

I have zero against Vawn, to be clear. He throws me a like every now and then, and such things tend to keep me on your side. :messenger_winking:

I'm kidding. I think.

Point being though, I don't want... well, literal sleeper agents burrowing their way into Gaf by acting proper for a year, and then having a license to do whatever they want. I don't want people even thinking that, or, if I can say this, coming to this board with that mindset.

Fortunately, I'm pretty sure that the only 'tenure' that exists on the site, is maybe a little more tolerance for people who contribute a lot, as opposed to those who do nothing but take.

I feel like even as a top 18 Gaffer (flex), the second I step well and truly out of line, I'll be put in my place. And I want it like that. That's a healthy message board.

Gamernyc78 was banned because he loves games too much and I'm not so sure if people on gaming forums should be banned for that. It's not like he was posting some really disturbing or hateful comments.

I agree with BoHazem, people like Gamernyc78 shouldn't be banned permanently. People can change.

Yeah, people need to remember NeoGAF is the most popular gaming forum right now and with that comes a responsibility to maintain a standard of respect and maturity when discussing video games. The idea that the mods are biased and there's a conspiracy to oppress certain groups of gamers or whatever is ridiculous because you see both PlayStation fanboys as well as Xbox fanboys receiving time outs and permabans. But I know certain people don't want to accept the reality because it's easier to make believe and go on as if nothing happened than it is to admit when you're wrong.

That's not really what I intended to mean. I'm more saying that if you have a reasonable argument but approach it from the viewpoint of someone who is persecuted, wronged and upset directly after being resurrected from a ban that viewpoint is not going to get as much traction as it would if you present it as a normal person who isnt on thin ice. And this is pretty easily provable by the fact that often the post that someone is banned for we can't find too much fault in it's more about the history. If you have a point you really want to drive home but its going to be divisive it's important to have a certain level of respect in the community and not be on the s*** list of the people running that community. It's not really me saying that once you're an elite member of neogaf you can troll everyone. I'm just so used to seeing people suicide their accounts because they're so sure they're right and can't wrap their mind around their entire context of their existence on this forum.

The purpose of temp bans is to do just that (give them time to change). If it's psychological or family problems (real-world problems); then they need to take a break from forums. Most of these users have a perm warning prior to their perm ban. Creating a toxic reputation on any webpage isn't going to go over well.

I try not to go to this well, because it gives me extreme posting anxiety, but there's literally, at a conservative, lowest possible count, probably thousands watching us.

Definitely puts the need to act with a basic level of decorum and maturity in perspective. You don't just represent and affect you. You represent and affect the site.

People can change, but 2 week ban is not enough. I was thinking about something like 2 months, or two years ban😉.

Being funny helps. However, in the same vein as when I said that trolling is in the eye of the beholder, so is humor. A comment that is hilarious to some may be antagonizing to others. Part of the reason that "trolling" is sometimes humorous is because one side finds humor and pleasure in making the other side mad by "owning" them or "dunking" on them. Some people get this balance right, some do not. The good ones know how to create a net positive reaction even from "trolling". Humor can be achieved without being antagonizing or petulant. GamerNYC didn't have that balance right. Despite multiple warnings and ample amounts of chances, he still chose to play with fire, even though it was pointed out many times how many burn marks he has on his fingers. I still contend that perms are too much of a long term solution to a short term problem, but that's not my call to make.

Gamernyc knows what he's doing. When he posted his crybaby thread a month or two ago whining about Arcadia and Mista getting free passes while admitting he was getting banned and warned in the past shows his recent perma isn't something out of the blue.

Hes been straddling that line hoping it doesn't go overboard. But looks like he got more troll reports and ultimately got permabanned by trying to stir up the Flight Sim 2020 thread with a "but Last of Us 2 has the best animation!" hoping that one liner will skirt the issue so he can come back another day.

Only difference between him and other permabanned trollers is he doesn't do blatant things getting mad like DanielsM months back getting pissed and purposely posted LoU2 spoilers knowing it's a permaban rule. I might be wrong, but I think he even made a troll thread luring people to click it and had spoilers right away.

The moderation team have such a great sense of humor, and I have one for them:

Why not have "Jail/Rehab" along with Gaming/Comm/off/politics forums? Those who get banned can only participate there until they do their time, so they can still use their PM's, read only on other places. I think it'll end up being funny with all the inmates there. :lollipop_tears_of_joy: Or have specific bans, like from the gaming, communities, etc?

Any chance in considering those? EviLore EviLore Bill O'Rights Bill O'Rights Mod of War: Remastered Mod of War: Remastered and the rest? I think it might even end up being more entertaining as well, maybe a good way to change the person when he comes back.

I just want to say that having a separate sub forum 4 people who have been banned is probably one of my favorite ideas posed in here just for the sheer hilarity of it
There is that console warring thread in the main gaming forum, but never gained traction.

As some people said, it's not fun for the troller when it's blatantly done in a known spot.

In theory it makes sense to let prisoners commit crimes on their own island, but the point of committing crimes is to affect the general public, not do it amongst themselves.

Indeed, but put them in a section of "exiles" won't even turn out being funny, instead of sad. At the end of day, this is only gaming, and fun is part of it.

It was really interesting to me how little traction that thread got. like there's a thread that exist that allows you to console war and the console warriors aren't interested??? I think it's like you say it's because they can't drag along people who don't want to console war if it's separate and that's what they really want to do is drag this place down.

I know I'm the absolute last person that should be criticising anyone's attempt at humour, but he sure as shit wasn't funny. If anything, people were laughing at him, not with him.

It would be an interesting sight to see exiled users battling each other, but I don't think any troller would bother even if they got endless bullet points of ammo to post...... sales list wars, MS has more money, higher MC ratings etc....

Trollers don't go after other trollers because it's a never ending back and forth.

Their targets are shit storming normal threads, pissing off average gamers, and doing drive by one liners. Name one person who'd expect a FS 2020 thread to be hit with a "but LoU2 has better animations!". Nobody.

There is a Console Wars thread.
You can always post here, but some people are more interested in baiting and derailing every thread in the gaming section.

That seems like a lot of work to keep a few members here that don't contribute anything positive to the community. idk if that many of these posters would even post if regulated to this section seeing as they don't use the designated threads that are already in place for shenanigans. But it is certainly an entertaining idea. Maybe the staff will think about it.

I see reports suggesting that "allowing this" would lower site standards. The truth is people just want to have fun. So it isn't fun for some to see comments that troll or are derailing the topic... depending on the topic. No one wants the standard of being completely serious. While someone will be quick to report a shit post in a Nintendo/Xbox/PlayStation thread, they are also quick to make the same comment in a Stadia/Epic Game Store/Star Citizen thread. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) we don't have a gaggle of fans ready to defend those companies/topics.

The biggest change that can happen is the community decides to ease up on the fanboying. Allow focused topics to remain focused. Play in silly threads. Stop the tit for tat. But that maybe a dream. Until then, GAF prison? Or just grow up?

Ready the prison shanks
