Sony will not respond. They will continue to make consoles and rely on their first party studios that they currently have to make the top tier games they have been making for years. No offense to MS, I'm an Xbox gamer too, but MS has acquired big studios in the past that have not lived up to expectations.
 
Sony doesn't need to respond. They just need to do what they've been doing so far: Some acquisitions here and there, share talent across PS Studios, develop the best possible games. That's all.
 
Sony couldn't even begin to dream of buying Bethesda, but MS won't even notice that money is gone.

A giant publisher wouldn't sell to Sony anyway, as Sony would relegate them to PS only. MS will release literally every game on PC and Xbox at the very least.

There's more chance of MS buying the companies listed in the OP than Sony buying them too. I don't think MS are closing the war chest just yet. Hold on to your butts.

yeah, Sony doesn't have that MS $, unfortunately. I mean, just checked what Xbox division brings in annually and then took a glimpse at what MS rakes in and it's fucking terrifying.
 
Sony has always had this thing going with their exclusives where its JUST enough games to attract people for them but never too much to step on third party publisher toes. I dont really think a big acquisition will do them a lot of good in that sense. Microsoft only really had Halo, Gears and Forza as the big attractions and honestly they lost a bit of their luster over the years, so they prrrrrobably have room for this.

Sony should do nothing. The Beth acquisition is more important to gamers than Sony/MS buying studios willy nilly. It re-unites Obsidian with the Fallout IP and gives us all hope that Todd Howard will stay away from the franchise.

I can't think of any 3rd person, action or cinematic game that needs rescuing by Sony.

Sony would be best off using their money to resurrect old IP's. Twisted metal would fit perfectly in the modern day battle-arena space.

I think this is the crux of the problem. Sony has been great at managing studios since they started properly focusing on them during PS2 Times. This investment paid off late in the PS3 gen and massively paid off in the PS4 gen. Sony has bought tons of studios and hasn't managed to provide us with amazing games in almost a decade.
 
I feel like this purchase was in response to Sony reportedly buying up 3rd party exclusivity all over the place. If Sony did, in fact, pay for Grand Theft Auto 6 like many were speculating, I don't know that an Elder Scrolls game 4 years from now is going to mean much.

This was a big purchase for Microsoft no doubt but it will take the entire generation to pay off. Not only that, it really limits what Microsoft is going to be able to do for the rest of the gen. There is no way shareholders will let Microsoft continue to spend billions until these dollars start translating into profit.
 
Even if MS plays hardball and keeps those games off PlayStation (which I don't think they will do, as I said in the other thread), remember MS is playing catch up.
 
At least Microsoft buying up companies means PC still gets the games, and possibly Playstatuion too. And although i do believe Sony will release all their games onto PC over time, they will never release them on Xbox.
 
All Sony has to do is keep on with what they did this entire generation. Deliver multiple great exclusive games a year. All this acquisition does is help MS play catch up on this front. Unless SIE feels they have some future gap, no need to acquire further. Maybe strategically money hat a few big third party games here and there.

Capcom, Platinum or Square Enix are the only developers I would buy.

I'd argue Sony should have acquired BluePoint and KojiPro a long time ago, but other than those two, I honestly don't see any other developers that would benefit from being under the Sony umbrella.

I seriously doubt it. Microsoft is a publicly traded company and are beholden to value per share. Nadella doesn't have some pile of blank checks to cash at a moment's notice, especially for the Xbox division.

They dont have to, they have been "winning" for the past generation, so about 7 years, they have nothing to prove, MS does...that it can create first party studios that actually create decent games.

Besides the love I have for Bethesta is quickly fading away after the latest clusterfucks they have been releasing.

Like I said to the other responder, there's a huge difference between having $8bil and being able to spend $8bil on a game publisher.

Sony have enough, but there's no way in hell they spend a quarter of the entire companies cash reserves on a game publisher. MS have like 3 times the amount Sony have just sitting offshore lol.

Sony doesn't care, they have people who will buy their console no matter what. In 2-3 years down the generation this big acquisition from Microsoft might start having an impact but at launch Sony will be more than fine.

Blue POint I would agree with. Kojima Productions I would wait on and see what his next game is actually. If good money hat with option to buy. Death Stranding was an experience (understatement!!!) but it took forever to make and its oddity and marketing were so novel that it will be hard to repeat. But if he can.....

Seriously people need to think before they hit post. Every penny spent need to be accounted for. 7 billion is not a I just checked in my pants pocket and look what I found type money.
 
I'm not sure how Sony responds, I'll leave it for the big wigs to figure that out.

I'm content with Sony for now, I need these companies to fight for my money and time.
 
Sony doesn't have that much cash to buy Rockstar. They just need to continue doing their thing and so far it has worked for them.

MS are not short sighted. its the long game. When the times comes that you only have turn on your tv or whatever device it is... and choose your gaming app, MS wants EVERYONE WHO LOVES ELDER SCROLLS AND DOOM TO PICK THIER APP. Cutting that user base down by locking out playstatrion users now doesn't make any sense. Its not about selling consoles today.

So you go from Sony does not have 7 billion cash lying around to spend to they can't spend it? If it makes business sense they will spend that type of money. And these kinds of purchases are not financed with just cash reserve, they take out loans and leverage stocks. Any financial institution will be willing to make that loan as they stand to make a big return on that purchase.
