Yep, many forget that Microsoft have much deeper pockets than Sony.I don't think Sony has the kind of money that bought Bethesda just laying around.
They never owned Quantic Dream. The closure of Evolution Studios was a pretty poor decision as I loved Motorstorm but they did get Insomniac and increased the size of their current studios. And while they did drop certain IPs, they also created newer, better selling ones.I never realised having followed Sony mainly for the exclusives, then the design (which is crap this gen), then the capabilities (which are sub-par to everything this gen), that Sony actually never bothered developing that strong of a franchise management.
They had Crash, Ape Escape, Syphon Filter, Music2000, Medievil, CoolBoarders, Jet Moto, Wipeout, Jak&Daxter, MLB, Twisted Metal, Wipeout, Drive Club, ParrapaTheRapper, Everybody's Golf, InFamous, Killzone, Motostorm, Resistance, Sly Cooper, Socom etc... How many franchise have they sold or abandoned instead of developing their backlog?
While Microsoft has a very bad history of cancelling games, Sony released them only to abandon them including the best...
They had Quantic Dream (Beyond Two Souls, Farenheit, Detroit etc...), Manchester Studio (responsible for PSVR titles), Studio Liverpool (ex-Psygnosis, Wipeout, F1 etc...), Zipper (SOCOM), Evolution Studios (WRC, Motorstorm, DriveClub) etc...that they all either sold or closed during the PS4 era...
Elder Scrolls and Fallout are pretty PC-centric games. They sell a lot well but they're not GTA, CoD and FIFA. One of these franchises going exclusive would be a serious blow since they are mainstream titles. They have major console sellers after acquiring new IPs for their brand. These "normal" people love these games. Elder Scrolls and Fallout are major IPs.
There's a reason why Sony is locking up exclusive deals from third party devs, and that's because it brings people to their platform. People can't sit here and say it really has no impact on Xbox when Fallout and Elder Scrolls still very big titles.
Sony doesn't need billions as they don't need to buy studios instead of publishers and build them up. Look at Insomniac Games - only cost $229M. And they churning million seller every couple of years. They won't/can't Sonys pockets are not deep enough..and too much of a gamble drop Billions if shit goes sour..where for MS its just pocket change $$
lol MS just bought like 10 studios and a wealth of IP/franchises, and you're comparing that to Insomniac? hahahaSony doesn't need billions as they don't need to buy studios instead of publishers and build them up. That's not what I am saying. I am saying that there is no need to by 10 studios - most of those studios are useless anyway. That said, I do think that Insomniac Games's output quality over the past 5 years outweighs the Zenimax studios. And they're going to continue with a game this year and another next year.lol MS just bought like 10 studios and a wealth of IP/franchises, and you're comparing that to Insomniac? hahaha
Not all games are equal. Some old games are worth more than new ones. They've already shot their bullets.
PS+ Collection. 15 old games available for PS+ subbers to add to their library.
awful that would come at the cost of other games.Buy Konami's IP. Keep developing great games with their current studios.
the same amount of SSD threads hahahaHow many threads like this do we need?
Lets assume Sony wants to counter the Bethesda acquisiton. If you could choose one publisher, which one would it be? Some publishers are out of reach (SE, Capcom etc.) but lets dream. Square Enix would be my pick, because it fits to Sony perfectly but thats probably impossible. Koei Tecmo would fit well too and would be realistic.
Sony will announce Take Two acquisition any minute now OP. I have it on good authority.
Why isn't From Software on this list?
Sony can't won't and doesn't need to.
They don't need a whole publisher. They need to buy FromSoftware.
Hey GTA6 ps5 exclusive would be huge. I get it.
Honestly, and there's competing data on if Sony has the funds to do this type of buy, but this would likely be BIGGER than Bethesda...and it's the only move Sony could make - besides something totally unreal like Ubisoft - that would drain the hype Microsoft's acquisition had.
Look out. Sony hitting back hard.
TLOU. And yes, I originally bought it on PS3, the remaster on PS4 and I would buy it once again on PS5. (the original. Part 2 is a dumpster fire). Not all games are equal. Some old games are worth more than new ones.
