Surely they would have anncouned that during the State of Play?

Also makes no sense since they said it's a free update from the PS4 version.

The thread title isn't wrong. The small print says if you claim FFVIIR via PS Plus you're not eligible for the free upgrade.
 
Well makes sense not to offer the free upgrade when they're giving away a valuable game like FF7R. I'm not really interested in other games, but it's still an incredible month for someone who hasn't played FF7.
 
It'd be an interesting move to get people buy FF7 for PS5. From the State of Play, and FF7 Remake:Integrade thread, found the disclaimer to get the free upgrade you had to have a physical disc PS5.
Just seemed off that if you purchased physical for ps4, and could only find or went with the digital ps5, you can't get the upgrade and would need to buy the ps5 version.
I mean, it's odd too that PS4 users are cut off from the Yuffi content to begin with.

Not the biggest fan of the game but that's probably the biggest wow I've had at a PS+ game in years.

Can't blame them for not giving the PS5 version free either, the PS4 version being included in PS+ is enough in itself.

It is that hard to me, because it sounded like there was no such thing as a paid upgrade charge since it's just a free update.

Exactly. And you can even find the game on a sale somewhere if you want the upgrade. Some people are just cheap and want it all free.

Sony just can't help fucking up under Jim Ryan, can they?

They take what should be an absolute slam dunk (free PS5 upgrade announced at conference), and they seek to be sneaky and casue more bad press to fall into their lap later down the line.

Can you just imagine how many people are going to get stung and caught-out out by this loophole?
 
That's pretty damn great month if true.

Weird about the upgrade though. I get why it's not free but after just having this state of play where they made big deal out of the free upgrade it's just weird.

Especially after Control where they gave the next-gen version. That version isn't free for anyone. In fact, GamePass only offers the last-gen version.

If this ends up true, I'm guessing it is on SquareEnix's end.

I still don't quite 100% believe this is true, yet. Giving it out for free at all a month before the year exclusivity ends would make it a harder sell when/if it goes to other platforms.

Wait what? You won't get the free upgrade if you own the PS4 version on disc? That sucks. I'm definitely not buying the game for the second time.

It remains to be seen if the upgrade they're talking about are the graphics+QoL upgrades or just the Yuffie Episode.


I think it's the later, because owners of the PS4 titles are getting those upgrades for free, but they also have to pay for the Yuffie Episode.
So in essence, we're getting the equivalent of buying the PS4 FF7R version, not the PS5 Retrograde one.

I meant upgrading the PS4 disc game if you own a bluray PS5. I haven't tried it yet, but if I understand it correctly you can insert the PS4 disc into your PS5, download the PS5 digital version and play it as long as you have the original disc in your drive.

That's why this news wasn't in the State of Play. Square Enix likely said sure you can offer it for free but we're not letting those people get the upgrade
 
Sony continues to kill it with PS+. Anyone flat out saying Game Pass is the best deal in gaming really needs to consider what PS+ has been doing. You don't lose these games 6 months to a year later either if you haven't played them

You have the free upgrade with all versions excepts PS+ version.

But in the case you have FFVIIR disc version and a PS5 DE you can't redeem it... so you can't use the free upgrade in that case.

I already have ff7 remake so it's literally pointless. This happens all the time. Ugh. Maybe Marquette will be good

I agree, the Plus games are mostly better than the Gold games since months, but it's still no competition for Game Pass. You get all the Bethesda games, all the Microsoft games. timed deals like Stalker 2 and the 360 games are even playable without Gold.

PS+ games are tied to PS+, if it runs out only the PS+ version would stop working, the PS5 upgrade version when it comes out won't be PS+ so I think it'll just fuck things up (though I wish it worked lol).
I think I'll just wait and get the PS5 version.
 
If true, it'd be another SOLID month, but the weird-no-upgrade policy will turn it into a more negative news than a positive one.
 
They really are giving out great games since January for ps plus.

I already own ff7r so the free upgrade will be sweet. Shame not everyone gets it. Hope Sony keeps up the great ps plus games.
