How come developers advertise 1880p on PS5 when there's no TVs or Monitors support those resolutions?
Don't you mean 1800P?
I've never heard of 1880P.

Oh yes they can. Internal resolution =/= output resolution. The res advertised by game devs is always referring to the internal resolution.
I think most of it is Sony, being a TV-manufacturer, probably has an inherent skepticism towards offering resolutions primarily found on computer monitors
Looks like the update is out for PS5 and All New Xbox Consoles.
Don't think they are advertising output resolution but rendering resolution so they could probably have used 1440p if they wanted to.PS5 is 1080p @120fps because PS5 doesnt support 1440p resolution. Why would devs program 1440p 120fps for PS5 if it doesnt support it?
Thats my guess why Xbox is 1440p 120fps and PS5 isnt
PS5 doesn't output 1440p but internal resolution can be 1440p. System will just downscale or upscale the output based on TV resolution.PS5 is 1080p @120fps because PS5 doesnt support 1440p resolution. Why would devs program 1440p 120fps for PS5 if it doesnt support it?

Who is this guy btw. He very popular on Gaf lol![]()
Is this due to the ps5 not supporting 1440p?

4K@60fps is not demanding. 120fps is much more demanding. XSX could easily output higher res than 4K@60fps.Well it's odd that it's 4K @ 60FPs then. It should be 1800P @ 60FPs to reflect the power gap. I guess once the resolution gets higher things change for some odd reason.
Nope. This is because PS5 doesn't support 1440p. That's why 60 FPS res is the same on both consoles. Looking forward to the update.
It will never not be stupid for Sony not to support that resolution. This is because PS5 doesn't support 1440p. That's why 60 FPS res is the same on both consoles. Looking forward to the update.
things are going to get very ugly around here.
It's interesting to see newer games perform much better than the launch games. 1080p vs 1440p is massive difference. That's 3.7 million pixels vs 2.1 million pixels. Or roughly 76% more pixels. Way more than the 18% tflops difference suggests.
Cernys variable clocks coming back to bite him in the ass?
Not sure why the difference is so massive otherwise. The avengers 100% gap doesn't seem to be a one off thing either. Re8 was also using checkerboard 4k. If the xsx turns out to be using native 4k like avengers, things are going to get very ugly around here.
RE8 uses reconstruction 4k not checkerboard on PS5 demo that is almost exactly the same as DMC 5 on XSX and PS5 in it's native 4k mode. Avangers uses checkerboard on PS5 but on XSX it is DRS with lower resolution on XSX. Tony Hawks is 1080p because PS5 doesn't support 1440p that's why both consoles are same resolution in 60 FPS mode.
Also are we forgetting AC Valhalla XSX 1188p vs PS5 1440p lowest bound resolution or Immortals Fenyx Rising Dynamic 4k vs Native 4k.

That's why we see the difference at 120fps, because it's much more demanding. 4K@60fps is already the cap.

Ps5 not supporting 1440p displays has nothing to do rendering 1440p resolution. It doesnt support native output on 1440p screens but it sure does support 1440p res in games and upscales them on 4k screen.
I mean...didnt Miles Morales had 1440p60 mode?
Also Demons Souls 2 perfomance mode is 1440p60.
Play Uncharted 4 or TLOU2 and your PS5 will play it at 1440p.
Why does Demon Souls and Spiderman have a 1440p 60fps mode on PS5?
Last gen games struggled to do 60 FPS, much less at native 4K. Now people are expecting 120fps when most don't even have monitors or TV to do 120fps ....
I would be happy if most games did 1080p at 60fps with Ray tracing. It's like this gen just jumped over 1080p so prematurely.
So here I am
Updating everything I can
Let me remind you who I am
Because I'm a superman
I'm trying to sleep
Lost count of Ps
Seems like the console wars are raging all around me.
The nights are Long
The consoles are so strong
Trying to make these upgrades more a maybe?
Tell me what to do.I'm so confused
It would be on any current platformI'm spoiled because this is low res on both platforms...![]()
Im more annoyed these bums are charging $10 for the upgrade. Even EA did free upgrades to PS4 games.
I mean for one don't talk like you know me because you don't.Let's be real, the game released for $40 ($50 for deluxe version). It went on pretty good sales within weeks. AT MOST, you're paying for a full-priced game. Ya'll complaining about that are probably the same ones who spend $1000+ every year on those basic ass Marvel/DC movies.
Move Over Horse Armor - The New Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 Comes With A $10 Upgrade
It could be. I mean it's Native 4K @ 60FPS on both systems.
The PS5 doesn't have 1440P support. Just 1080P and 4K.
Well it's odd that it's 4K @ 60FPs then. It should be 1800P @ 60FPs to reflect the power gap. I guess once the resolution gets higher things change for some odd reason.
This is possibly a case of the variable rate clock speeds on the PS5.
120fps is usually pretty heavy on the CPU (and possibly GPU, depending on resolution). Even if your GPU can render enough frames for a given resolution, if your CPU can't keep up then you are effectively bottlenecked by the CPU. This applies to any resolution. That doesn't mean that PS5 can't achieve 120fps; it's a matter of competing for resources.
Let's forget about what resolution the PS5 can output to a display and just consider 1440p internal resolution. With a resolution like 1440p and framerate of 120fps, both the GPU and CPU have their work cut out for them. In the case of the PS5, both the CPU and GPU require high clock speeds (among other things) to output frames quickly enough to keep within the 120fps target. Unfortunately, because of the nature of variable clock speeds in the PS5, either the CPU or GPU can't maintain a clock speed high enough to meet a consistent 1440p@120fps. They cripple each other.
Of course, this is just speculation. Are there any good examples of games where the PS5 is outputing 1440p@120fps?
What you say makes no sense PS4 Pro doesn't support 1440p either yet most Pro enhanced games run at 1440p also have you heard of a game called Demon Souls for the Ps5?This is because PS5 doesn't support 1440p. That's why 60 FPS res is the same on both consoles. Looking forward to the update.
It will display at 1440p, but you're only going to see 1440p 60fps.
This would be meaningless if there's already a 4K 60fps mode. This means the game will display at 1080p 120hz because that's what the console supports.
If you're getting 60fps at 4K, then you're going to get a frame-rate increase at 1440p.
PlayStation 5 doesn't support 1440p @ 120hz, It supports 1080p @ 120hz.
If you're running Tony Hawk at 120hz 1440p on the PlayStation 5, it will display at 1080p 120hz. This is the likely cause of the game running at 1080p because the PlayStation 5 doesn't support 120hz\1440p.
It will display at 1440p, but you're only going to see 1440p 60fps.

Funny because so far we have seen PS5 performing better in higher frame rate modes than XSX, i.e., COD, Destiny, DMC5, etc.4K@60fps is not demanding. 120fps is much more demanding. XSX could easily output higher res than 4K@60fps.

and we know exactly why it was performing better the only problem was that many didn't want to accept what everyone including the devs was saying.Funny because so far we have seen PS5 performing better in higher frame rate modes than XSX, i.e., COD, Destiny, DMC5, etc.
