What about current affairs? The forum is literally how a lot of people keep up with the news.

I think a cool off period would have been more appropriate. One of the reasons Neogaf is a good place for discussion is because it was actually possible for people with completely opposing perspectives to discuss without getting banned by overzealous moderation. Because of that I would not have described the section as a bubble. There was a period when the quality of discussion was really good, though clearly things have deteriorated more recently into personal attacks on individual users being singled out and made to feel unwelcome.

I hope in time we can have the section back, I can't be alone in feeling like a non-crazy place to talk about important stuff honestly with the actual possibility of disagreement was a big draw to the site and the separation from the rest of Off Topic functioned as a great filter the majority of the time.

I'm not sure what we'll be able to post especially on the economic front. A lot of tax policies and economic policies that affect stocks are in there. I guess we have to stick with posting strategies and returns.

A few weeks ago someone posted an infographic or something like that which was 90% unoffensive and had a bunch of graphs showing, among other things, how the media stopped referring to class issues and started referring to race issues sometime after Occupy Wall Street. The idea was that to distract people from class issues that affect us all, journalists started in with the race issues to divide us and prevent us from uniting on class issues. I more or less agree with that part.

Unfortunately, at the bottom of the image, all of this was blamed on some kind of Jewish conspiracy, which is assuredly not true and anti-Semitic. Evil Lore called out those who liked the post, most of whom apologized and admitted they did not read the whole thing.

So I do wonder if today's wave of bans, some of which may have had to do with liking posts perceived as white supremacist, was a similar situation. Could be, might not be. Obviously we cannot review the offending posts and likes for ourselves. However, the owner of the web site can do as they wish.

EviLore I wish you guys wouldn't blanket nuke content like this. Lock the threads, ban offenders, remove blatantly offensive/inciting posts, fine, but some of us have written long, thoughtful posts (perhaps not so thoughtful in my case) that are now lost to us. After the schism, I scrambled to recover some of my longer posts from Google's cache and would rather not have to do that again.
