120fps Gears 5 on a Series S opened my eyes to new areas of wow.

Graphics/resolution have been good enough for me for almost 10 years so now having the higher frame rate option is really where its at for me.

Art is very important to me, but there are "ugly" game out there (namely some indies) that play so well that I still very much enjoy them.

Gotta admit I feel a little guilty of not letting myself enjoy some of those experiences, but I've tried and the art just puts off so much I just can't, happened to me with The Witcher 1 and AC1. Now, smooth 60fps (yes, it's smooth, even tho not the smoothest) + art style is another story

Maybe You are only looking for these posts. I post a lot of different things. True, I am not the biggest pc fan lately and I am bitter about it but PC gaming is my life... it's a love/hate relationship.

for starters, u have to tone down your sensitivity, that's a must. so you have less intense judder when panning the camera with a mouse
then, try setting the game to 20 fps
play 5-10 minutes (begrudgingly)
then set it to 30 fps
it will feel much better. and of course, don't try 60 fps at all. once you get a taste of that, it may seem impossible to return back to 30 fps.
tho, its pointless, just have decent cpu and reduce resolution/graphics wherever itis required to attain 60 fps but i can stillsettle solidly on 40 fps with a gamepad, it just feelsreally good to me, no cap

I prioritize framerate but honestly I rarely have to compromise IQ much if at all in almost any games to get good framerates on PC and my hardware isn't exactly cutting edge stuff now.

You could upgrade to a 3000 or 5000 series CPU and def blaze through the game.
If the gimped 3000s in these consoles can run it, im sure any processor beyond should easily walk to 60fps stable.

this is how my 40 fps experimental cpunk 2077 mode looked like. it was enjoyable, i think i spent 30 hrs like this, really happy with smoothness, it was just enough to be not distracting for me. and its a fps game! i then switched over to 1440p+dlss quality with toned down RT, managed to get 60, but really, 4k IQ was something else (The game was on Very hard difficulty. i really wanted to see if 40 fps mode can be enjoyed and properly played without distractions and stops; and personally yes; it was highly enjoyable)

ofc u can solve the issue with better hardware. this was a compromise that I was happy with

Consoles back then also had some 60fps games, mainly 2d scrollers. If you were to train your sight you could have seen the difference even at that age.

But yeah, welcome to the club! I have switched to 144fps for the past couple of years (in the games i can) and it makes a difference from 60. I'm not sure if from 120 to 144 makes much though, or from 120 to 240.

But if i have learned anything through the years, is that the "this is perfect/enough" standard of a certain time period, the future has been knocking it out every generation.

That only works if you have a screen that supports 40Hz or a VRR/Freesync/Gsync screen that has a range that goes down that low else
Your frames are being displayed non-uniformly and you will get a persistent albeit predictable stutter/judder/frame delay when frames are repeated or skipped.
40 doesnt divide into 60 equally, so the game/screen has to figure something out.
Might as well just lock 30 or reduce settings to get to 60.
^Note this is basically a 30 vs 60 thread and people are fine with 30 so I imagine people are also fine with non-uniform frame rendering. *shudder*

I have no idea why it works - and i'm aware it shouldn't work in theory, for the reasons you said - but it undeniably does as i used it myself.

Up until my ps5, I never had the opitons of toggling 60fps or higher fidelity graphics. Up until this point, I always thought that PC gamers were snobs in needing higher frames and believed 30fps is good enough for anyone. I even always thought before the ps5 release that I would always choose the higher fidelity cause why bother playing at higher frames. BOY WAS I WRONG!

As an exclusive console owner I had the ignorance is bliss mentality. To make a long story short, it's hard to go back to playing many games at 30fps once you feel the fluidity of 60pfs. The 30fps games often feel very sluggish in comparison like they are played in quick sand. Even older games like Diablo 2 benefit greatly from this improved frame rate structure.

I know you can get the highest fidelity and highest frames if money is not an object but for many of us it is. I prefer console gaming due to it's closed eco system and certain exclusives but got to admit the PC gamers were right all along.

After getting a gaming laptop, I prefer great art direction AND high framerate like in Sifu and Ori. I would also prefer a stable 30 fps over a caring 50-60 fps.

Overall I agree. It really does make a difference in a lot of games. It is better visually to look at as well. I would possibly trade framerate for advanced physics and AI though.

So i try not to tell people how to enjoy their games, but you are definitely getting duplicate frames at best, it just doesnt bother you.

Cant check the model right now, but it is an old LG 1080p model from 2015, and i know it doesn't support stuff like g-sync or anything of the sort that requires specific monitors (i've checked before). GPU is a GTX 1660 super.
