There is pretty much nothing out there looking much better than Horizon FW from pretty much any publisher yet they still chose to complain about how the game looks. Makes no sense, there are next gen only games that haven't even released that look much worse than Horizon FW while barely hitting 30fps.

So which is it? The reveal looked fantastical where your argument is that it will look worse, or it looked "identical" as Slimy said, which then it would look worse than last gen's game?

The "trailer looks the same as the first game", "the final game is going to look worse than the trailer", yet he never said the sequel is going to look worse somehow... Now he spams emotes instead of listing games that look much better from other publishers.

The statement was it looks worse than the early footage.
The reveal didn't look much different than the original GOW.
In this case I do expect it to look better in the retail version but it could end up worse than the early footage. (With SM Id bet on it being improved)

This doesn't make any sense. Jimbo is the most successful CEO they and any other console maker ever had, he's growing all their teams and buying them support team for stuff like porting or outsourcing. The devs like to get more resources, and their games are more successful than ever.
And well, the PR/marketing/sales decision of when a particular game announces its release date or opens preorders or shows a trailer isn't decided by ihm. In fact, the devs prefer to have as much time as possible.
There is no reason of why they would want to get rid of him. The opposite.
When released they all basically looked better than any other game in the market. Same will happen with GoWR, GoW 2018 still looks top tier 4 years later and adding on top some extra PS5 bells & whistles it will look great.
Maybe it was a bait to spot and fire the leaker.

Duh! Of course it looked identical. There was this bald dude with an axe and his son. It looked so identical it was probably just DLC for the first game. I wouldn't be surprised if they went back to fixed camera in this game because of the cross-gen aspect of it

You are looking at the scenes and assets from the gameplay trailer and assuming that they were all captured at the latest stages of development, when it's obvious they're all in different stages. It's a varied mix and some aspects clearly need more time in the oven than others. For example, Atreus' model in Ragnarok looks unpolished compared to the model in 2018.
On the flip side, the texture detail and lighting on the alligator like creature from the Ragnarok trailer is a generation ahead of the World Serpent model from GoW 2018.

Exactly. The irony here is that the leap in fidelity coupled with seamless transitions from scene to scene in a single camera shot game will make GOW Ragnarok, a cross-gen game, the most next gen title to date.

It's not gonna top an actual next gen only game like Ratchet which already looks more impressive than what we've seen of Gow ragnarok. Ratchet was insane looking with fantastic RT reflections. I don't see how a cross gen game can top that unless they manage to improve the visuals for release. Btw I don't think Forbiddem West is more impressive than Ratchet.
I hope I'm wrong. The whole "no slow walking to disguise loading" would be an awesome feature for ps5. Without RT though, lighting can only go so far imo. What games really need is RT GI. I'm hoping against hope that developers can find a way to implement it using these systems. Metro Exodus was able to do it. Imagine if rt gi was used in Gow 2018 or last of us 2 ...Metro Exodus had to drop tesselation though and has a lot more low res textures than those games.

I meant pressure from devs over that email and politics but maybe that was overblown.
Jim Ryan mostly has PR losses so far, everything else outside of console production (a problem that isn't exclusive to Sony) has been smooth sailing. Most internal studios that weren't just acquired seem to be in good shape and most games have been hits. The Insomniac acquisition (not something he started but that happened under him) has been ridiculously productive.

You should check out the R&C Tech Talk i just posted in the forum. Rift Apart benefits heavily from improved developer workflow to achieve non RT global illumination, and it's really good! Of course fully ray traced GI would be ideal but when dealing with hardware limitations, smart rendering workflow can go a loooongg way. I agree with you that Ratchet looks better than HFW. I think HFW lighting suffers tremendously, likely from poor techniques. For all it's graphical accomplishments, lighting is the area that keeps HFW looking unmistakably cross gen, with mediocre asset streaming a close 2nd.

U4 was shown on PS4.
GoT and TLOU2 were indeed shown on PS4 pro but the fact that they were downgraded because they had to run on the base PS4 is literally my point about GOWR being limited by the base PS4. A couple of points I would have to disagree with.
1) Plenty of cross gen games have come out with RT reflections and have benefited heavily from them. Miles especially had almost every single story mission designed with reflections in mind and imo had a better use of RT reflections than Ratchet which was split half and half in open world sections with no reflective surfaces. Overall, visuals in Ratchet looked better than Miles but if SSM really wanted to implement some fancy RT reflections or RT GI, they could. I just dont think they will.
2) RTGI isnt needed for great lighting. The first UE5 demo was using software lumens and even the PC version of the Matrix demo lets you turn off hardware accelerated lumens and it still looks next gen compared to GOW. RTGI wont necessarily make a game look next gen. Metro doesnt look as good as the matrix or those fancy UE5 demos, does it? If they add RTGI to GOW's existing lighting system, it wont automatically make it look like the Matrix. At best it will look like cyberpunk with RTGI on vs off. More accurate, but not a transformative experience. Good for Alex to jerk off to, but the rest of us normal people will be like is that it and turn it off for a higher framerate.
Think of the TLOU2 GI downgrades on those light bounces from fire, RTGI would help bring back those GI bounces that were removed but they were running on the PS4 Pro without any RTGI so you dont even need RTGI for that.
GOW has a tall task ahead of it in order to even come close to looking next gen. They have to throw away every single character model they are reusing from the first game and start fresh like HFW did. Better textures, new hair, better hero lighting, and most importantly different character models. Even GOW2's kratos got a pretty decent graphical uplit on the PS2. Here kratos looks virtually identical. Freya too. The boy looks different of course, but nothing special. Whereas random character models in HFW look better than 99.99% of games out there. GG is just operating at a different skill level than SSM and it shows.

That's maybe 20% better at best, and even that's arguable as you aren't comparing apples to apples with characters of the same scale. Smaller characters can afford finer detailed textures than larger ones can.
Besides there are closer shots of Jormungandr that show more detail than the faraway shot you are using anyway.

However, I still think you are erroneously concluding that all the scenes and all the assets from the trailer 2021 are finalized and this is the final look of the game. And HFW/GoWR comparison is also comparing apples to oranges; with Horizon, we're talking about not being able to use code that next gen systems can handle. With GoW, all you have to do to achieve next gen in some capacity is to not include the artificial loading scripts when going from one detailed environment to the next. Let that sexy SSD I/O sing, baby!
