The verticality is another thing that makes it stand out. Other open world games are flat, even if they can have hills and even mountains you're never in a new area looking down at previous areas like in ER.

Instant horse summon makes the combat varied and fresh for Souls games, it really plays nothing like Demon's or Dark Souls outside of the narrow space areas.

The way you can take alternative paths around difficult areas, and even bosses (some), and go out on long adventures with new content and bosses in no way needed to complete the game is unique too and makes it a ton less frustrating since you don't get stuck in the same way.

Everything is iterating on something but there can still be innovation and there is no Souls game like Elden Ring, the open map and instant double jump horse summon changed everything how it plays even though it's still very much a Souls game. Nothing will be the same again, fans and haters will never stop debating if an open world is good or bad but sales numbers and reviews are only saying one thing: Winning

The game director of Ragnarok (combat director in previous GoW) isn't in social media. Cory isn't directing this game but is overviewing all projects of SSM as the creative director of the studio and let's say their PR star.

For me it doesn't matter it comes out this year or next year. They way things are going I might not even able to buy it even it does come out this year.

There are just too many games coming out and most of them are very long games.

There are lots of things that makes it stand out, it's the sum of all things, it really plays like no other Souls game. Which is why there is such a heated discussion among Souls fans if Elden Ring is better or worse than FROM's previous games.

I'd say it's quite literally starting a new sub-genre, open-world soulslike. It only play like previous Souls games when you're in a dungeon so saying it's a Souls game isn't separating it enough from the rest imo.

But this is awful off-topic so let's end this talk.

Schreier is part of the problem. Always has been, and as long as people give him any attention, will continue to be.
 
Gotta be honest: they've been ridiculously cagey, revealed very little, and what has been shown is pretty underwhelming.

This is a game that needs to really impress the next time we see it.

Jason's insight here makes it seem like PS5 was possibly the original target platform. I do empathize with PS4 owners who are still searching for PS5, but as a PS5 owner desperate for more next gen features, I can't deny this puts a smile on my face, and likely SlimySnake SlimySnake as well lol.

I still believe those obnoxious (but understandable) traversal slowdowns will be eliminated from PS5 version entirely, which would be game changing in and of itself.
