Microsoft wants to buy it all up, play the we're the good guy card, and flip the switch on everyone at the right moment. Create the biggest gaming walled garden for better or for worse, and enforce their shit onto everyone.
I like the current setup: Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony along with some strong 3rd party publishers. Everyone should battle it out on the game front, Microsoft could use that money and spin up quite a few studios and start making compelling content and give their users good games/products/features etc...
There are a lot of people on this earth, surely 3 big game companies with a handful of solid 3rd party publishers can co-exist.

Again back out of what. Show me a deal MS made with Sony, or a promised concession made with EU regulators regarding Starfield lol. MS would be legally ruined if such a deal existed. They offered assurances(Not to the FTC btw)that titles would remain. The games mentioned have not released hell both delayed.
There's a pattern of emotion drowning logic here. Law separates binding agreements (like 10yra COD on Nintendo l) from assumptions.
If you were to call MS a bad faith actor we could be arguing over something of substance. But to suggest they backed out of deal that didn't exist is wild.

The sad thing here is Microsoft could have remained relatively quiet in response to this and maybe regroup internally. If they did make assurances to EU about ZeniMax then they made a giant mistake because I just can't see them winning if there's documentation to back that up. I would imagine the FTC wasn't making this up. Microsoft probably has to do some soul searching about this. If they really are all about the message they have been trying to put out in the past week they really need to come to terms with offering concessions. Start with promising to publish everything on everything going forward. It might not work but it would be a start.

I said before, "in my opinion". That article is very polite towards Sony, doesn't even mention the attrition between Psygnosis and Sony or that they tried to sell them.
I guess having issues with a studio, trying to sell them and being forced to keep them because nobody offered as much as they wanted, then closing down 2 of their locations, changing the studio name and forcing them to make the IPs Sony wants doesn't keep devs motivated to do their best work.

Bro, Marvel has control of that IP, not Sony. They simply got a license from them to publish an exclusive with Insomniac, who they acquired AFTER Spider-Man became a big hit. MS can go to Marvel & get their own license to publish their own Spider-Man game, nothing's stopping them. Sony's not hoarding that IP lol.

You should probably realize that these huge companies are no saints and if Sony is not your friend certainly a monopolistic company like Microsoft isn't and has a lot to be exposed as well.
