What time is it?
I'm nothing if not a good sport, so I welcome the firing squad. Still not removing my money from Activision stock because there's still too much upside, but I made a bet with @thicc_girls_are_teh_best that I'm fully prepared to honor despite the appeal, unless he wants to wait for the appeal. However, should you decide that you want to collect, I'm ready to honor our game bet regardless of outcome. So just let me know and I'll get it done.

I don't flake on bets/promises, so fully prepared to make good on the game bet we made.

Jim Ryan has to get a ton of praise for all of this and probably the keys to the castle.
Praise him for what? They dashed his playstation related concerns aside. this was about protecting the nascent cloud gaming market. if it wasnt for that ......'jimbo' would be having to accept ten year deals from MS like everybody else. Praise the CMA if you are gonna praise anybody. and be thankful they consider cloud its own market. because that is why they blocked this. Fact. Im not a fan of giving credit where its not deserved. but sure he gets a participation trophy.

Do you not think that Sony included Cloud in their list of issues?

They were cited by the CMA as key players in the field (and are rumored to be releasing a cloud-based portable device too).

Brad & Microsoft seem to have failed in grasping the memo. Once the UK has made their decision, that's it. They can drag the whole thing for as long as they like, the CMA is its own court and it'll be like a dead end street for them, it'll drag on forever. It also proves that Microsoft really is that desperate in owning ABK and it's hurting their bottom line.

Well, people here have been treating Phil Spencer like a genius. He basically killed the Xbox console business in the last 10 years...

LOL

At least Jim brings results home for Sony

Owning ABK was their loss leading protection for their sub service.

Also, making the competition smaller strategy.

Praise from Sony not gamers.

If he made a deal, the CMA would have had little choice but to accept it. That includes cloud gaming. He didn’t buckle under extreme pressure to buckle.

The CMA narrowing this to cloud gaming just makes appealing it more difficult AND it makes it easier for Sony to buy Studios themselves.

even if EU approved the FTC and CMA do not. I dont know what other card MS can play, but I think they are better of just paying off the 3Bn, and spending the rest on other smaller aquisitions. Maybe go after T2......or buy rockstar form T2 for a silly amount of money. and still buy other studios. They have options that to be honest...are far tastier than ABK even if they dont own the biggest grossing FPS in the world.

Time to make Halo great again.
Even with this deal most likely dead, you guys still can't stop the acquisition begging. 🙄

I'm not calling the deal alive or dead, but I would say make sure you get your Diablo 4 preorders in as I doubt it's making an appearance on GamePass this year.

Sad isn't it?

Considering the fact that they have seen and experienced first hand how games tend to turn out under Microsoft's management I can't quite work out why thats what they would want. Surely third parties would be better off staying third party if you want the best chance of experiencing high quality games?

But no, that's not what it's really about. That's not what any of this has ever really been about for them unfortunately.

That's actually not a sound way to look at business though. Traditionally almost all innovation comes from the behemoths, with the smaller companies joining markets once a profitable model/product has been landed on. Mom and Pops don't have the R&D dollars to do much in most areas.

Well, get those big companies to R&D their games...🤔

Lol F microsoft.
hope they don't go on a killing spree now with their spare 70bil... buying studios we actually care about

Oh....but the drama!...this isnt the end of their long term goals. Their will be more aquisitions. I doubt they will spend 70bn on one single thing again, but they will go after some highly sort after studios and IP. you get to keep COD, crash and spyro evrywhere...... but what happens when they buy a small studio who makes a games you do care about? that is the possibility now......

before they were gonna spend 70Bn really for one big franchise...which I was never a big fan of but buy yearly for to play with my freinds all the same (I would rather they spent the 70Bn on a bunch of aquisitions, new studios and tooling up the ones they have) ...I would still like to see them aquire the blizzard part of things if that was possible..... invest in single players games in the Wow And starcraft universes. but ABK will remain a whole entity now and forever I guess.

So..... the game nobody cared about is safe from aquisition because its too big....but now the ones you probably do care about....that dont sell COD numbers... absolutely are. And they wont be blocked because those studios dont influence sales, to anywhere near the extent of something like COD.

"hope they don't go on a killing spree now"

hope is comfort to a fool. This is still a business, and they are still in it for the long game. I think they are going to be a lot more agrressive with sony going forward. there is bad blood in the air. And when the dust is settled MS will have a big bullseye on sonys forehead, largey from the part they have played in opposition to the deal, as MS main competitor in the gaming space. Its going to be corporate warefere . Whether they spend a whole 70Bn on gaming studios alone has yet to be seen...I dont think they will spend that much...but maybe they will...how badly do they want to get out of third place? ....but er...expect that spree. And expect it to include games people actually did care about.

And yet that was NEVER jims concern in any of his statements...infact....he just "didnt want the deal to go through"...remember? CMA made the cloud conclusions on their own inspite of every streaming service being guranteed access contractually to COD for then next ten years. the same deal was offered to sony...so no...im not throwing jimbo a bone for this one. Playststion didnt kill the deal...CMAs clpoud concerns did? thats the facts. but sure go prasie your overlord if you must. whatver makes the news sound better to you. Im just working with the CMA reasons for blocking the deal is all.

They would go after them anyway IMO. Even if this deal went through in the end, the smarter decision would be going after smaller studios and publishers to avoid another shitshow like this one.

I don't care about Activision Blizzard at all. I simply love Xbox fanboy tears. Reading twitter right now is pure entertainment :messenger_smiling_hearts:

They shouldn't be allowed to buy Take Two/Rockstar,neither should Sony

Cant say this was unexpected.......

It wasn’t? Was certainly unexpected to me and most of those who voted in the poll. You yourself even voted approval.

Pharao was saying not to light any cigars and you were replying refuting others who predicted this. In the end PharaoTutAnchAmun PharaoTutAnchAmun was right about not celebrating too early and ultimately so were those certain the CMA would kill it. Let's not downplay that by suggesting this is not unexpected or that you knew all along now. Props to those people who actually expected this.

Dont light your cigar before the fat lady sings.....Thats al i have to say...
You should have said that to the people who were certain that the CMA was either gonna kill the deal or demand divestiture about 50 pages ago.

So I guess it's still just the Xbox Game Studios + Bethesda showcase, huh? Well, glad I actually bought a copy of Diablo 4.
