Nearly 100 hours into ToTK.

I don't see a situation where any game can overtake it for GOTY. It's a masterpiece.

And we all know how Bethesda launches its games.
 
The gameplay systems all look really good and I'm excited to play it. From this perspective I can see it winning GOTY (providing they don't fuck it up!).

I'm a little apprehensive about the plot and what really gels all of these systems together. Of course story isn't it's main selling point but I hope it is at least serviceable.
 
Literally couldn't care less what game Geoff Keighley and his pals are going to pick as the game of the year because I know that my favorite games of this year are going to be Starfield, Jedi Survivor, Dead Space, and Resident Evil 4. Why would I care about some overrated awards show that serves as yet another excuse to advertise shit to gamers?

God I hate awards shows. Bunch of self masturbatory, decadent drivel.
 
Am i the only one who sees Starfield as a No Man´s Sky v2.0 ?

GOTY will probably be Zelda even though i dont think it should be.

I haven't watched it yet (i only watched the rather unimpressive 3 min trailer, not the deep dive), but people saying that this is gonna stole the goty from totk makes me very curious.

Is there a massive use of physics or sandbox gameplay or what?

It will be scope (Starfield) vs creativity (Zelda: TotK), with FFXVI coming in between them.

I'm slighty leaning more towards TotK, I'm baffled away at how everything just works in that game, no matter if you come up with the most silly approach, it just works.

Tokt at least was fresh for its sandboxy gameplay, botw was barely a shitty tech demo in comparison.

Is spaceship combat more fresh than absolute freedom?

Depends how many bugs they ship this one with :D

TOTK is going to be hard to take a win from when the game is so fucking refined to the point people have to actually go out of there way to try find a bug. Bethesda games normally has a bug that break save files from what I could remember.

Animation still is Oblivion-like. It's weird

Game itself can go high as shit. There's a chance of the prize, but probably Zelda will win because is basically the past game with A LOT of greater stuff to do
 
Nope, Zelda TotK is more than GotY and is one of the best games ever made, imo its the best Zelda game as well,

That being said, that list is still great, its a good year for games
 
It could be but for me it has to beat Zelda and Diablo. The game looks amazing but I can't say for sure yet. I was interested in Starfield but not sure if I'd buy it day 1 but after last night I know I will be playing it as soon as it launches.

Nope.

Only thing is, they have character progression system like Skyrim.

A bit different but you can make whatever you want.

Rest of the stuff is typical Bethesda, so we know it's gonna be good enough for one of the best thing ever.

I only said that starfield will win goty. Not in those words, but its the sane meaning. Zelda is a runner up too, yes.
 
It will be somebody's GOTY, yes. Whether or not it will be the GOTY to somebody whose opinion is arbitrarily deemed more important than the next guy or girl is another matter.
 
I'll be joining a small minority saying it'll be Diablo 4 even though it won't be. Return to form of Diablo to me is cooler than space Skyrim tbh.

I thought Zelda as well but it's now clear we are dealing with a once in a generation game with Starfield, people will be playing this long after TOTK is forgotten about.

Giving GOTY to a Japanese game is always highly embarrassing for the western media, doesn't matter if it's Nintendo. Review scores may be biased and all, but the western bias towards western games when it comes to declaring the GOTY is crystal clear.
Watch Starfield be the next coming of Christ even with all the launch kinks, and Zelda be demoted with "it's just an improved BOTW, a six-years-old game that came out on 2012 hardware after all". Laugh all you want, it can happen. Both are 30fps too, so the shinier graphicz will definitely tip the scales here.

Mods made that game they way it is now.

Mods are the secret ingredient for their games.

Watch them make 60 fps mod for the game.
 
Lets see if the story is any good. They showed great stuff but it really depends on the story if it'll be a goty contender. I want old fashioned Fallout humor and silly situations besides the story being great.

Joking aside, it's no surprise people are excited. Starfield is looking as if No Man's Sky, Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen had a child. And anyone that has even a passing interest in science fiction/space exploration games (that includes me, obviously) has always dreamed of something like what they propose. A ton of systems to visit and stories to accompany you on your journey. We will have to see if it's as good as it looks, but they've definitely shown enough (imo) to pick people's attention.
 
It may be good enough to win but there are a LOT of reviewers out there who's platform of choice is PS. They will look for any way to criticize the game because it's Xbox, so it likely won't win GOTY even if it ends up being amazing.

I've always had a huge interest in this sort of game and i have to say, i'm very skeptical of what i saw. I wouldn't compare this to SC and ED, as those have more solid systems like working living economy and planetary physics, not to mention MMO-like features. This has none of that, it really is a lot like NMS with Fallout sprinkled on top, and thats more or less what had me worried.

NMS has a lot of the systems showcased and they all have the same problem, no synergy between them and too shallow to be worth engaging with by themselves. The way they've showcased Starfield range of activities gave me the same impression. Thousands of settlements to invade and shoot up for you to eventually realize none of the loot is worth the trouble and that they are all more or less the same. All these ship customizations, barely any effect on how you play the game. Lots of base building options but almost no use for the stuff you obtain through them. Tons of systems that seem designed with some vague goal in mind to make you "bigger", "richer", "more powerful", etc; but why you want to be any of those? Will any of that help you towards some bigger goal, like how getting stronger in a rpg lets you fight stronger enemies and explore areas with higher level? Its all optional so they kind feel like they were just attached to the game. In games like x4 or Factorio, where you also "grow" indefinitely, theres usually always some bigger carrot to chase, not to mention the systems are designed in a way to be engaging and your actions have clear, often visible, consequences in the world around you, which makes them satisfying to play. I dont see that here in Starfield.

It's possible that this game may be the best game ever it's beautiful massive and combat looks great over a thousand planets to explore and space stations hi jack spaceships also spaceship battles this seems unrealistic it's unbelievable how great this looks I hope it doesn't get delayed my soul is ready for this🤣
 
Personally I don't care for divisive awards like this, all I care for is quality games that I want to play and enjoy going through. To me its always been a bit ridiculous since everything is subjective to personal tastes as well as state of mind and other factors present for that person in the moment. Hence why people can try something once and dislike the experience, then after some time has passed return to and love the thing they once thought was poor.

All that matters is if you enjoy it yourself, and even better when the year is up it was your personal GotY or among the top tier. That said its been a great year so far and I truly believe that Starfield will deliver the goods and I'll be there Day 1.
