Starfield is using the same Creation Engine as FO4 and FO76 with a few modifications and it's been in the oven for, what, 7 or 8 years now?

I’d say it looks most likely to defeat either Diablo 4, Hogwarts or Zelda. Right now if year ended today I’d vote Diablo, but expect Hogwarts to win if general audience votes matter. Either Spidey or Starfield could prevail in end if they nail the landings and live Up to hype. If both live up to hype, I’d assume Starfield wins as it will be more Unique.

I'm sure they won't even let it be nominated. The Game Awards will be too fearful and kowtow immediately to the controversy and it won't even be available for people to vote for.

GOTY...as personal GOTY?

Otherwise it doesn't matter as I haven't played almost any of the "official" GOTY of the last 10 years.

It definitely won't be mine, but I'm sure it's a contender for the GOTY awards the masses care about.

Despite me having no interest in it and being a huge Zelda fan, I'd prefer to see it get it as a new franchise than Zelda take the title for reusing the map as much as it did.

With the year 1/2 way over, my personal GOTY is looking to be either Hogwarts Legacy or Diablo IV. Spiderman might have a chance to overtake those later in the year though.

…and What’s really, REALLY getting old are the Sony fanbois here that go out of their way to slag on any positive Microsoft news/event.

Who cares - we get two GOTY’s - and possibly a 3rd if spider man kills it - plus we have re4remake, Jedi survivor, Diablo 4, ff16 — I dunno it’s just a good year for games.

I want Starfield to be good, but the more I think about it the more skeptical and reserved I become. A lot of planets, procedural generation.. there's a decent chance many are a waste of time with what amounts to cut and paste locations or POIs. Bigger isn't always better. I'm a big fan of Daggerfall so depending on how it's done I'd be willing to overlook certain things, but it's also been over 25 years since Daggerfall.

All in all, I'd much, much rather have been getting Elder Scrolls VI. But I'm interested to see what happens.

I honestly didn’t see anything great in that trailer….and skimmed the in depth look and still don’t see much.

Like what is this game doing other than bigger better badder?

Out of everything I think I want to play Avowed over everything else.

I don’t understand what is so mind blowing about starfield. It’s like a Skyrim in space. I don’t own a switch with TOTK, but Zelda is looking far more impressive to me.

Will it win goty awards? Yes. Possibly even most of them.

Personally I’m very hyped for it but there are plenty of games this year that can be called goty by anyone.

I am also hyped for Armored Core and FFXVI.

The faces throwing me off, the lifeless eyes and overall faces are kind of distracting considering how many conversations will be in the game. Aside from that everything else looked great

I still think that TOTK has a better chance. Starfield promises a lot, whether they can deliver remains yet to be seen.

It looked cool. Just a matter of time to find out if it is. The resource gathering looked boring at least.

And I still wonder if a planet is a planet in size, and not just a planet with maybe 3 hubs on if. Might be too much to ask, which I understand, but I can’t help but wonder.

Starfield looks like it has the potential but it will be really hard to get that thing properly balanced, polished, and filled with good content.

TotK is the safer bet.

I think TotK will get GOTY, despite being a huge disappointment in my (admittedly minority) opinion.

So far I’d give the title to Diablo but there’s still 6 months to go.

That’s deeply ironic considering the animation of NPCs in TotK. Aside from basic movement the game doesn’t even bother and just fades to black when it needs to change the state or position of a NPC.

Regardless of personal feelings. Microsoft has NEVER won GOTY in modern times. With all the turmoil at Xbox, they need a massive win. Starfield is Xbox most important release since Halo 3 or original Kinect. It needs to be huge!!

If you're someone that cares about how the total number of votes/awards shake out in terms of anointing a GOTY, and you expect it to not be Zelda, you're going to be disappointed.

Starfield does look good though! I'm sure it will be in the discussion somewhere.

I voted yes, not because I think it will win most GotY awards (almost certainly Zelda) but it is shaping up to be my personal GotY.

If Zelda does win the most awards, it’ll be because it’s one of the best games of all time. Nothing more, nothing less.

It definitely has a market. But a lot of those worlds looked extremely barren. Spectacular, but barren. There's cool gameplay potential, but nothing that I haven't seen before to be honest in other games.
I'm sure the game will do well, but I'll be waiting for opinions after the game releases. Still better than what Sony showed in their last showcase.
