So Starfield will be GOTY, right?

The game looks like the definition of quantity over quality. Average gunplay, average graphics, tons of worlds to explore, tons of customization.
I don’t know quite why some are loosing their minds over this. I would prefer a tighter game that allowed narrative and world building to take the lead.

Starfield checks a lot of boxes I can’t lie, but missing in-orbit flight and manual take off is a big pause for me. It’s promising a fantasy I’m not sold it’ll deliver just yet.

Also Starfield would be more recent coming out in Sep, and voting prob starts around November.
And who knows, what if Metroid Prime 4 comes out this year and it's an open world where you can build your own ship, have space fights, fly to over 2000 procedurally generated planets to hunt down Metroids, and it runs at 60FPS.

It's a fucking stacked year. I don't recall a time recently where there were so many obvious candidates. Sure. Some organizations will automatically snub some of these. But all of these have that GOTY energy. Time will tell for those yet to release. May even be a surprise or two that comes out of nowhere.

What he brings up are legitimate worries that were issues that plagued the first 1-2 years of No Mans Sky. If true, that means no rovers, bikes, etc. and the in-atmosphere ship flight will be very limited or stiff. If he's wrong and there are fast planetary movement options, I'm also worried about the framerate and LOD when going these speeds.
I'm not buying this game day 1 anyway as I'll wait for the GoTY edition or whatever edition comes out the next year with patches, DLC, and enough user mods by then.

Nah, Jedi Survivor ain't a serious contender. It's gonna win a few stragglers but nowhere near the top.

Also RE4 Remake is not overrated but one of the best game ever made.

Ok, here's a question? What game other than Starfield has combined the following game styles in one game. Starfield has the feel of a Elder Scrolls open world. The game has the ahhh of Mass Effect when it was first shown. Starfield has the combat styles and weapons of a Fallout game. Starfield easily feels like No Man's Sky. The game has the building and flying capabilities of Elite Dangerous. Also, and you can built your own ships and bases. No other game in existence has done all this in one game!

Too early to tell but if you ask if im betting on it, then i guess so, Starfield needs only deliver what they have shown and i think they can have an advantage in the running just for the fact that Zelda BOTW already won many awards and Starfield is the new thing, plus Xbox needs a W so badly, they have not won TGA since a long time. So yeah i will bet that its getting GOTY.
TOTK is so hard to beat though, game is a masterpiece and probably holds the current crown for best open world game.

Todays showcase definitely made me reconsider wether TOTK will actually be GOTY, but since Bethesdas games never really launch in a polished state I'm not sure Starfield will either. It's possible it won't harm the game to such an extent that it affects its chance to be GOTY but I think gamers and media are generaly less forgiving nowadays than when for example Skyrim launched.

And yes, TotK is superb, but it damn well should be since it reused the BotW engine and had five years to bake. Starfield is a brand new IP…and that should stand out more, especially when we have people whining on this very board about the lack of new IPs and innovation in gaming.
