LTT has built a PC that outperforms PS5 at the same price point

Finished the video and he wasn't able to match the current gen consoles at the $500 price point. I suspect going with the 3060Ti GPU would have worked, but the build heavily relies on used components or stuff the owner already has lying around.

Shame on him for the clickbait

Won't bother with a clickbait LTT video but PCMR sure seem to be working overtime lately to capture souls
Which is weird since the platform's strengths speak for themselves (console-like prices ain't one of them). PC gaming has no need for evangelists.

I'd just buy a PS5 for $500.

Also, this is really a weird, reverse generation. The PS5 started off as a very strong value proposition but its price after 3 1/2 years hasn't dropped, it has even increased in some markets. The hardware is actually worse now compared to PC when it comes to price/performance. If it's still $500 by 2025, then you'll probably be able to build a cheapass $600 rig that easily beats it. The RTX 5050 will probably be much faster and cost $200.

The president said it would be hard to decrease the price so this might happen which I believe would be a first.

BR drive LOL.

That Arc will be better in some games and worse in others for sure but overall this PC is not bad.
Point being, he should be comparing against a $400 disc less PS5. Also, add in a PS5 controller to make it semi- apples to apples.

So I watched most of the video... ..it is probably not the best argument for PC over PS5. First, as per usual, the price comparison is a little deceptive since it is using a shit case that nobody is going to want and you would need to add the cost of a controller so we are already looking at ~$100+ price difference. Also, several times they had to either go into settings to mess around, had some compromises or had some crashes. Some of that could be due to the GPU they chose. I game on PC more than I do on consoles but I am kind of tired of the click bait headlines and freaking thumbnails youtubers use. I have stopped watching a lot of videos (including LTT) because of it.

I have a question.....why are they saying the TV frame rate is the frame rate that the game is running at?

They were comparing this to the Steam frame rate counter.

Maybe but you can also use super cheap mouse and keyboard for few bucks.

Overall this comparison is not really valid but many console folks think that you need few thousand dollars PC to play games when in reality you just need few hundred bucks.

This guy bothers me for no reason. He's just got one of those faces.
His "tech" channel is mainly entertainment with a lot of bullshit and false information. Do not watch LTTP, you will become less informed about technology after viewing their content.

Gamers' Nexus eviscerated them a few months ago.

A few hundred bucks doesn't even build half a PC which would come close to a PS5.

used and, somehow, free parts. This video is almost a parody, frankly.
I am starting to think it is. Not only was the pricing deceptive but they showed some of the pitfalls of PC gaming too. That GPU choice is probably responsible for some of that. This video would probably do more to sway me away from PC gaming than bring me to it if I thought it was like that. Who knew Linus was a closet console gamer? 😜

So my question is what is the excuse now for console gamers?

It's a PIA to use. I can control my whole playstation 5 with just a controller you can't do that on PC and I spent years trying. So before you come back and say "You can" you better think of every single thing I can do on my PS5 and confirm I can do the same on a PC with a controller. If you answer is yes, well then please respond because I was never able to get it setup that way.

Well in that case they would also have to include 7 years of cloud saves/online subscription into the price of 1 console which would raise the budget for PC if you want to go as fair as possible. There is absolutely no point in having a disc drive for a PC in 2024, not to mention that using used parts is also extremely questionable and invalidates the whole video.

There is no apples to apples comparison to be made since PCs and consoles can have completely different use cases, the whole idea is pointless and unfair for both platforms.

fair video
despite the bait title , the results are in favour of ps5

Pretty impressive being 4 years into the cycle and starting with maybe upper middle class hardware equivalent. Not being able to beat it for the cost 4 years in seems unusual. And at that with a used trash bin case.

You could setup your PC to boot into Steam BP mode. It has gotten much better since they made it function like the steam deck UI.

I wouldn't recommend it, but you could do everything you could on a console other than pay to play online.

It never works flawlessly. There are some games on PC which insist on showing the mouse pointer until you move the mouse, only then will using the gamepad make the pointer disappear. TLOU pt.1 does this on every start and Forza games sometimes do. There is always some level of rough edges with the PC experience.

I should have spotted the joke when they pulled out that monstrously huge PC case instead of using that extra $25 they had left over to buy a proper case. They made PS5 look small.

It never fails to surprise me how much console fanboys get offended at hardware comparisons. Especially this generation when the consoles are actually incredible value for money and great pieces of kit.

Steam version of Monster Hunter Rise refuses to open for me, apparently been broken for a month since their last shitty game update.

I don't ever use BP mode and you're right about the mouse pointer thing, but now that I think about it I have never seen this on steam deck

It seems that the console business is changing, PS5 has not dropped in price since launch in 2020, while the PC market has returned to normalized pricing after the crypto crash.

Right now is much more profitable a PC to play, not only you can get one for the price of practically a console, but you have free online, much cheaper games, mods, community patches, free games without subscriptions (epic games), access to all xbox day 1 exclusives, access to almost all playstation exclusives, the entire PC catalog, gamepass, emulation, freedom to use any type of controller, multiple screens or ultrawide....

So my question is what is the excuse now for console gamers?

Can I walk into a shop and buy a box with a pre built pc at the level of a ps5?

It's so convenient and I never have to tamper with settings or wonder will future games need me to upgrade a part.

Consoles will always be relevant as long as PCs are.

My internet went down for a whole day recently, I tried to play some games on PC offline, some of them refused to work because the EA App (via Steam) insisted I go online first and only then I could go offline. Other games gave a cryptic warning about cloud saves not being up to date and I could lose my progress. Nothing is ever simple with PC.

The cost doesn't really factor into it for pretty much all of the console-only gamers I know. Some of them even own PCs that could outperform a PS5 for work or other uses, but they don't game on them at all because they just don't want to.

only an idiot goes cheap for a gaming PC.

Seems like a try hard attempt to me. Whats up with people begging console gamer to switch to PC gaming nowadays?

No matter how cheap a gaming PC is, a gaming PC will never be the same as a console

To be fair, it doesn't help that console to PC hardware comparisons are typically really bad or simply click bait. And this one comes across as more of a joke than anything else.

This will outperform PS5 in 90% of games:

You can windows for ~100$ but you can use it for free as far as I know without any key. Plus M & K for few bucks.

Windows can be used for free as long as you don't mind the "Activate" message on the desktop background and the fact that you cannot change themes and such. So really no need to include it as a cost for building a gaming PC.

Nope I tried this. It's close but like someone else said the pointer on some games wont move. Used controller companion to fix that issue though. Then I have another problem. Friend wants me to join discord, well I can't exit the game and join discord.
