Dragon Age: The Veilguard lets you choose top surgery scars in character creator

lol

Gamers after the god awful reveal trailer and months of underwhelming videos/press releases: "this is probably gonna suck, I'll wait and see"

Gamers after the preview videos dropped: "that actually sounds better than I expected, maybe it'll be OK after all"

Gamers 1 hour later: "ok nevermind, fuck this game."

You know you can make a character without it, right?

I don't get why this upsets anyone.

Why do I have to read this "argument"? For fuck's sake.

Imagine this fantasy game had a Boeing Commercial Airliner in it. Would you say "you can just ignore it"? Or one of the characters had a Google Pixel phone that would ring and you can just "not answer it"?

How can anyone who even remotely considers gaming their hobby have such blinders to not only accept this, but argue in favour of it.

it does not make sense. I can understand magic spells being able to change an appearance of someone, but medical science should not be a thing in this sort of game. If anything, Magic should be able to do it without leaving scars. The fact that the scars are there is just pandering to the minority of which many will not play this game in the first place. some will, but not as many as they think, and its nothing but ego stroking.
I was about to say something similar. In a world where magic exists, having something like this is stupid.

I'm not arguing in favor of it. Or against it. It is irrelevant. I don't understand how anyone has the time, will or energy to get upset about it. It literally does you no harm. You can just ignore it.

You lost me on the Boeing commercial airliner part. I have no idea what point you are trying to make. If there was one in it I would think that's an odd choice, but I would absolutely say you can ignore it, yes. Because you can - it's very easy, you just… ignore it.

Was interested because I loved origins back in the day but I can't bring myself to support this dumb crap like pronouns and transitioning in games.

I like this a lot.
All the 'both sides', arguing, information.
Back and forth, finger pointing, gaslighting.

Only thing that matters, the gatekeeper. The market.

Time to put it up to the test. Gaming is a very expensive playground to be an activist in.
A piece of cardboard and markers won't cost you more than $3. (But we know why they're in gaming)

2024 - 2025 are the years when those bubbles brush up against reality.
I think the 'woke' side is figuring out (forcefully) some very hard lessons.
There is a space for games like these, but not at the AAA ($$$) level. (Not yet anyway)
Maybe they need to cultivate (earn) an audience before asking the big studios to do it.
AA/indie development. Maybe crowd funding, kickstarter.
There are teams of 1 or two people that produce beautiful games.

(We know why they want the biggest stage possible though…)
Investors, share holders, c suite, the market. Non of those are your allies, but you ally with them to push an ideology.
Someone ask the professor how that is going.

I'm loving all of it. More releases please.

Origins is probably the only Dragon Age worth playing. Don't think it's ever been the same since. It's been all downhill from there. Veilguard is just the Coup de Grace.

kruis kruis Damn can't even have a busty bootylicious thighs saves lives ninja girl. Dead game.

I agree that it's an option which I can easily ignore.

What is annoying is that an option for such a small community exists, while I, as an ethnically East Indian male, have never been able to recreate facial features even close to mine despite being part of one of the largest ethnic groups on earth. I don't actually even care much that I can't recreate my nose in video games, but it does become annoying when a very specific group is catered to, to such a large extent while other groups (likely those actually playing the game) are ignored.

I think it's reasonable to call such things out when the game devs mention how inclusive they are every five minutes. I find the selective inclusivity (another word for that would be discrimination) eyebrow raising, and even more so when one takes a look at the game director.

I don't have anything against trans people but I do have something against treating trans people, or any other specific group, as above or more worthy than others.
As a "minority" wishing you were represented I'd think you'd have more understanding of the inclusion, but maybe I'm missing the point, and I can certainly understand why you would be upset about the lack of inclusion as it relates to you. I wasn't aware that East Indian males had something different about their nose? Perhaps if character creators were more inclusive I would be better educated lol.

Look, I'm Irish catholic and more in line with those traditional values than the 'modern values' everyone is so annoyed about, but I was also raised not to poke my nose into other people's business if they weren't harming anyone.

Maybe because I don't try and recreate myself in games this issue just bewilders me a bit.

I heard that when you start the game as a man you get 10 stat points less, as a female 5 less. If you want all the stat points to distribute you need to choose a theythem.

I think it's pretty stupid to have modern scars from a modern surgery in a game that is supposedly based in some medieval dark age time period. But if you want to put it in there for "representation" then at least give us ALL the options:

fake balloon tits
thicc booty augmentation
fake plastic six pack abs
ruined botox face

They have quite distinct noses. Like Skeletor.

I have three young children and I do not want to see our culture normalise self mutiliation as if it is no different to picking a hair colour.

They can't get that Hello Kitty tattoo they want, but permanently injure their healthy bodies to never have kids in the future, behind their parents back? Sure!!!
