Avowed |OT| Is an oath worth the weight of a crown?

Anyone make their character look like a skittles clicker? I instead brightened up scares for my godlike features.

Also, any reason for reroll if I want to be a sword and shield guy rather than a bow guy? Only an hour in. I'm thinking those starting stats are probably a drop in the bucket after awhile.

Dexterity goes well with either as it increases the speed of your sword swinging and readying your bow for the next shot. Perception is also good for both.

No photo mode I guess?

Interesting, looks like they put in genuine work in the mode. It's not just a check-list scenario.

Not at all. I was expecting it to be janky as hell, but it isn't. Moving looks natural. Combat moves are fine. I'm going to remap the selection wheel from left button to right button, but other than that......all good.

Jesus this game is beautiful

people hating on this game visually in the other thread need to get their head checked. I guess they needed something to hate on after people started reporting the women thing is mostly a non issue.

this makes me happy. I typically switch between 3rd and 1st person (I like third person when battling tons of enemies at once usually)

Only played an hour so far but I like the magic combat. Love that they added a skip cutscene button and allowed me to Speedrun through the dialogue. Not bad.

I think game seems decent so far. I already like it better than the Dragon Age that was just released.

In some ways, this feels like more of a Bioware game than Veilguard. The lack of party tactics in Veilguard really put me off that game. Still early but I'm eager to see how well it works in Avowed.

Goddamn, I started on path of the damned and died already too many times in tutorial lol

Stick with it. Makes it more rewarding hitting them dodges, parries, and using your resources like eating food for buffs. Very important you stay on top of leveling up your armor though.

I chose Hard - should I have done Path of the Damned? I'm finding it okay so far but not challenging in any way yet, granted I only completed the tutorial and the house on the hill quest.

Only played a little bit, but I like what I've played so far, interesting fantasy setting, with what seem to be lots of places to go off track and explore (went up the lighthouse and jumped down).
It weirdly feels like this mix between mass effect (dialogue, characters) and some of obsidian's older rpgs.
Third person is nice for walking around, but first person has nicer animations.

Also even though I'm on performance mode, it looks rather nice overall; the way light interact with the pearlescent blue scales of kai looks really nice, his facial animations (and facial animations in general) seem really good too, eyes actually look like there's life behind them, nice textures.

I'll eventually switch to pc (thanks god for play anywhere), but this looks nice enough for now.

Played for an hour.

Surprised by the movement and combat. Wasn't expecting Obsidian to focus on this. Feels good.

Like the writing and setting. If they are gonna make a fantasy setting, might as well make it unique and interesting. Writing seems snappy and I can clearly see role playing options, what type of character I wanna be.

So far so good,

Yep, only an hour or so in but it's a blast. Sticking with third person arrows and sword and board. I got the roots spell first to get some easy headshots before switching to melee. I think it looks and plays great. Maxed out on PC. It's is very well optimized like DF advised.

I just started and just got the bow and arrow. So far initial impressions are that it's not a game that's blowing me away but it seems solid overall. I find the visuals pleasing so far. It's not going to win any graphics awards this year but I'm liking the aesthetic of what I see so far.

To be honest the combat doesn't seem like it's overly very fun to me. Not awful but I'm just not into that much yet. The game to me doesn't really engross me into the story or lore really. I'm not reading much of any of the notes or letters around. I think they could've done better with making you care more about that. If a game grabs me with its story and characters I get into the lore and story but I just don't feel that early on.

Man, after playing some more I really wish I had the time to preface this with replaying PoE and PoE II. But I get a feeling if it continues like this in terms of lore sprinklings and whatnot, I'll definitely have to replay those games after finishing this, assuming I do finish it.

Game looks and plays good on my RTX 4070. I've got all the graphics set to Ultra and DLSS Latest set in the Nvidia App. But I have to drop all the way to performance to get it above 60FPS. Still looks good in Performance.
I've only completed one side quest so far. The first one I found in the port town.
My biggest concern is health. Coming across health/food gives option to either take it or eat it right there. But only a few pixels of health increase. Does that get upgraded later on?
At first I though the magic book was fiddly, but just hit the trigger then push the face button for the spell you want. Pretty simple really.
Dual weilding daggers I felt like I was chopping up french fries. The daggers just hold out in front of your character while you run around. Hold Y to put weapons and books away.
I put all my starting points into Dexterity and Intelligence and nothing into Carry capacity. I'm going to try to not pick up everything in the world this time. I'm bad about that.
I'm enjoying it so far. Music is a bit too 'droning' for my taste in this opening area, maybe it will perk up later on.

I think is more fun with melee and grimoire (my build) sword and magic

Holy shit the game is pretty

The area after the tutorial is something else. The exploration, parkour, secrets, I have a feeling I'll spend a shitload of time in that place.

Epic settings with RT is something else on PC. Ultrawide is just the right FOV too for this game, very immersive.

It really is. I think anyone who says otherwise just doesn't like the aesthetics, art style, or they are playing on a weak system or Series S.

Pics like this make the 'it's ugly' complaint I've read some folks here make very hard to digest.

Those totems really gives you a stat boost godam. Enjoying the manageable side content, only a handful of sidequests and colectibles for each zone.

You cook stronger food at the camp pot. Eating food doesn't heal you in battle only potions. Also you can over heal your health and essence with food so that its queued up to replenish your health anytime you drop health or essence. You'll see what I mean when you eat more than you need.
