Any love for Avowed?

What's being or not being trans got to do with Avowed?

Too late Topher, you played the game, have you looked in the mirror since a while?

I never even downloaded it despite being subscribed to Gamepass. Honestly, I always forget it exists until I see it mentioned somewhere like this thread.

I thought it was a great game. Fun world to explore. Great combat. Story was ok-ish, but not bad. In my top five for the year so far, but not sure it will stay there by the end.
Same.
I killed the final boss through a speech check. Any game that can do a Mass Effect 1 gets prime position on my list.

Don't understand the hate this game gets AT ALL. I thought it was a fun, rock solid experience from start to finish. I had a blast with the combat and exploration. Solid 8/10 game imo. It's sitting at an 80 on Metacritic so I wouldn't call it mediocre by any stretch. People just hate it because it's an Xbox game.

It's popular to hate because it's on Xbox and one of the devs is a fuckhead.

Combat is fun, exploration is good at times (not on the 2nd map), graphics are solid but too purple for my taste, but what killed my interest was the lame story and voiceover.
Also i played at launch before the buffs and nerfs to the talent point system, so it took way too long to level up and get a build together. Balance wasn't good at that time.
I should give it another go sometime, stopped on the third map.

I don't really see Avowed mentioned on any GOTY lists so far. I know it came out early in the year but I thought it was a very solid, polished, fun, western RPG and one of my top picks for GOTY. Probably 2nd behind Expedition 33.

Are people just forgetting about it since it came out so long ago? Or is it because it's only on Xbox and PC?
With you on this, great game, really underappreciated on Gaf.

the game that settled for me that obsidian lost their rpg shine (probably after avellone left)
was thinking outer worlds was maybe a one time miss before this one, but no this is the same formulaic lifeless shit, that loses steam long before half point.

It's my favorite game of the year so far. 8/10. It's entertaining, has a solid story, gameplay and graphics are excellent. Don't think for a second that it being an Xbox game isn't viewed as a negative right from the start. As far as my opinion on all the other stuff surrounding this game--I am a real man. I can think for myself and am 100 percent comfortable with who I am. I don't need validation or unvalidation from entertainment media. I love women, guns, video games, and red meat! I love and respect all people. Nothing can change that. These anti woke warriors are weak minded folks. Woke or not woke doesn't mean anything to me. At the end of the day, the product has to be good. This is a solid fun experience at the end of the day. I would suggest playing it in 3rd person instead of 1st person.

It was a good game, but I had more fun with that King Arthur game, Tainted Grail, as an RPG and I wouldn't really consider that GoTY material. Its in the Good / OK space. Kinda perfect for gamepass.

I absolutely recommend the game. It was fine and it didn't overstay its welcome.
Tainted Grail is awesome

If Avowed is the first in a series, there's definitely room for improvement in a potential sequel.
For example, NPCs should walk around, be more expressive, and interact more naturally with their environment whether they're giving quests or just living their lives in town or out in the world.

Speaking of interaction, players should also be able to do more within the world and with its NPCs. Kingdom Come: Deliverance (both 1 and 2) are great examples of this kind of depth.

I often compare Avowed to Borderlands, as they share a similar gameplay loop and world structure. But while Borderlands gets away with its static world because it's all about fast-paced run and gun action, Avowed tells a story and that static environment really breaks the immersion. It can make the playthrough feel like a chore at times.

I love Obsidian and PoE1 and 2 are some of my favorite games. Never got excited for this one and it's def not worth $70. I'll likely buy it when it's around $30.

I thought Avowed was pretty decent. Better than the Dragon Age game. And honestly better than the Tainted Grail game so far (I'm not finished with it, but I find it a little unpolished and not as 'fun').

I think if it wasn't a Microsoft game it would be better received honestly. Microsoft + game pass here = wrath. The gameplay was honestly pretty fun. Maybe there were other things that weren't as good, but the combat I enjoyed. Tainted Grail combat is pretty meh in comparison.

No real love, it wasn't terrible, but it was just okay, felt soulless and left no impact on me but i did finish it.

just an entirely mid game

I couldn't stomach how the characters look with those weird mutant stuff on their faces. I felt literally sick so shift-delete after 1-2 hours or so.

After I played Avowed, I couldn't remember the sound of my late mother's voice and I lost the ability to taste food.

Agreed. It's not perfect by any means, but it did check a lot of boxes that I care about to make a game great. I just wish there was more combat, or that enemies respawned.

Currently am playing DA Veilguard.

It has its peculiarities/ quirks.

Lore and world building in both of these series (POE, DA) is so far ahead everything else in industry, its not even funny.

Veilguard did had a couple of omega cringe moments. Too funny the game wants to discuss that stuff. But personally would like both these franchises and studios to continue with these games.

What about the NPC? Are they good?

They were ok. Not exactly the most memorable, to be honest. Story and characters were not the highlight of the game. I enjoyed the gameplay more than the rest. It wasn't bad though. I'd give story and characters a 7/10. 9/10 for the gameplay.

Love...is a strong word
