If a Russian agent became the President of the USA... he wouldn’t do half of what Trump did because he’d be afraid of being exposed. Trump is simply dumber than even his biggest critics think he is.

I have a very novice understanding and didn't read the entire thread but I thought US benefits from War and many countries rely on US imports of arms/ammunitions. ( I know India does heavily). Is military industrial complex not putting any pressure through their deep pockets to not go this route. Now entire EU is firing up their factories and probably finding alternates for their army supplies.

Does the aid US is sending to Ukraine is way more than the profit US military companies might gain that this becomes a sum negative transaction.

My heart truly hearts for our country, and how hateful and vindictive we've become to one another. I truly hope we can weather this storm and come out better on the other side one day.
Our choices were bad but something had to change, our Country had never been more divided and we could not continue down the path we were heading

Not to mention how people were streaming into our country illegally

I have a family member from Southern Indiana who is a field agent for the FBI and she has said even in Southern Indiana the amount of cartel crime is sky rocketing the last couple of years, IN SOUTHERN INDIANA

Western countries like the US are in a no win situation when it comes to immigrations laws no matter how lax or iron fisted they are.

Similar to military help, donations, foreign aid etc.... these kinds of countries are always expected to be Mr Deep Pockets, Mrs Compassion, and Uncle Open Doors Policy.

You do it uncontrolled and it's problems. You crack down on it and people view it as being heartless Sir Scrooge.

And places like the US which are huge in land, economy, people etc... are always expected to be the first in line taking in all needy and desperate. Here in Canada just north of you, we got even more land, only 40M people, similar in terms of standard of living, even got universal healthcare. But we (and many other smaller but well off countries) can always fly under the radar while US, UK, Germany, France etc... are always the ones with the spotlight first being expected as Dr. Dollar Signs.

People here sent a clear message things had to change

Did we make the right choice?

I don't know but again, change was needed

Maybe this will help reset both parties lines of thinking come next election as I sure hope we get better choices next time

Not only that, but alot of people forget that the US has already betrayed Ukraine before - by promising them protection if they give up their nukes:

Just bumping this because every time a new person learns this fact, they forget it again five minutes later.

No doubt the path we were on was untenable in the long run, and I think almost everyone can agree we need drastic changes. But the approach we're taking now looks like it will cause way more suffering for the average American than the path were going down.

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm so tired of everyone being so divided and hateful, even when we all agree on probably 90% of issues. This culture war shit that's been propogating on social media and elsewhere is nothing more than a tool to drive a wedge between us, and to keep us divided.

United we stand, divided we fall. It's high time for us to stand together.

Saw this comment on an article:

Perhaps Trump is just speeding up the inevitable.
Ukraine cannot win without military intervention from NATO.
That’s too dangerous.
If the war grinds on for years, thousands of young men and women will die on both sides.
Russia would likely prevail in a prolonged war.

The American taxpayer doesn’t want to go on financing this war.
The European leadership has shown no initiative in ending the conflict until Trump came back.
Most ordinary people don’t care one way or the other.
Russia isn’t a realistic threat to the west if it hasn’t been able to defeat Ukraine. Unless the war continues and it achieves complete victory whereby it may well be a danger if it controls territory much closer.
Yes, Russia are the aggressors and in a fair world, they’d get their comeuppance but it’s a not a fair world and it’s better to salvage something from the situation rather than watch as people continue to die in a horrific war that’s edging us closer to a catastrophic global conflict.

Of course all these principled journalists could lace their boots and pick up their rifles and head to the frontline to sort Putin out.
After quickly sorting that out, they could stop by Yemen, Congo, Ethiopia and all the other places where people are dying in awful conflicts and sort them out too?

Fair take?

Zelensky should take the deal Trump was offering.

What's the upside for Ukraine? A deal is meant to be mutually beneficial, right? Trump didn't even INCLUDE Ukraine in the "peace" negotiations with Russia. From where I'm sitting, Ukraine loses land and resources while Russia GAINS land and the US gains minerals/resources.

Again, what's the upside for Ukraine? Effectively losing a war with their invader and possibly losing their independence? Russia started this war, make Russia stop and then we can talk. This isn't the fault of Ukraine.

I think it is a fair take.

FACT 1 - Ukraine can not win on its own, however much support in funding and weapons. It will just continue to lose money and young men.

FACT 2 - The idea that Russia can be worn down and will internally collapse has turned out to be wrong.

FACT 3 - The only way to “not let Putin win” ie taking back areas would be to send in NATO / EU / US troops.

FACT 4 - Nobody is willing to join this war. If they would, they would have in the last three years.

So basically money and men are being thrown to the grinder for nothing.

The upside for Ukraine is halting a war they can't win without funding from other countries.

The US having some control of their resources, is a fair (not perfect) exchange and makes them an asset to the US which will make Russia think twice about a full on invasion.

No one (including Russia) wants to find out why the US doesn't have free health care. Lol.

The war wouldn't be that hard to win without rewarding Russia.

1) Send enough resources to form an iron clad defensive wall in Ukraine that annihilates anything that crosses it.

2) Insist that EU partners contribute a proportional degree of resources to make it "even". Negotiate that we won't commit until they step up.

3) Give Russia a timeline to get out of their captured areas of Ukraine with the condition that if they don't, they will be annihilated and sent the bill for any collateral damage on Ukrainian land.

4) Don't be bluffing, but neither step over into Russian territory either as that would spark an existential desperate response that could include nukes.

Russia would become a docile lap puppy in no time.

Since people seem to be so against the US (by far) being the most powerful military power.

What country would you prefer to have that kind of military power?

Because Putins ammunition is running out since three years and he has to take chips out of washing machines. On the other hand he’s nearly through to conquer Germany. Make up your minds, folks. It can be only one thing, not both at the same time.

Right now i truly believe that the war is running to a stalemate because it looks like that no one can launch a expressive offensive.
Both countries are running low, the problem is Ukraine is running "lower" but UKR's fighting an existential war on defense.

What's beyond my understanding is what Russian is conceding to "win" this war? Because they are in a quagmire also but that's what will happen if the war stops now.
At this rating? Nothing. Just the land grab will pay for almost everything that they suffered on this war, plus they will rearm and start a new war in the medium term.

Canada. Absolutely not.

Justin Trudeau was freezing people's bank accounts for protesting. He's basically a dictator. He would nuke you for misgendering people. He has attempted to disarm the county multiple times.

90% of our media is state funded.

Not to mention he absolutely destroyed Canada.

If you want an example of how extreme liberalism doesn't work, see Canada.

Trump shows why most presidents in the world are usually puppets for their governments and have no real power.

He acts like some kind of king and has way too much power. So far (for over 200 years) this system worked fine, people in the white house were mostly decent human beings but this lunatic can literally do anything. And the best thing is that AMERICA is blamed for decisions of one person...

Again, Ukraine hasn't been part of any of these "negotiations". They have had no say in anything.

And after that crap show in the WH this week, do you seriously think Trump wants to help Ukraine? He's basically giving the game away... He sided with Putin at the UN ... US, Russia, Iran and NK voted together lock step

I wish we had elected presidents that could actually enact real change in the UK, instead they get ousted constantly, or they're at the mercy of unaccountable judiciaries. But then you get hinge cases like trump that make it look like a not so bad idea. I don't really know which one I want.

Would that "deal" be ok if it were America that was invaded by Russia and we TOO were basically at a stalemate? I mean, beggars can't be choosers, right?
America won't be invaded.

The entire population is armed to the teeth.

The 2nd amendment is a God send.

They also have an insanely large police force and the most funded and most technically advanced offensive and defensive military and military systems in the world.

Ukraine isn't the US.

Not the point.

I said if Russia were invading the US and we're at a stalemate... Meaning this is a huge "if" ... And just because Americans have guns doesn't mean they have heavy artillery like F-22s or tanks or whatever.... The South could be carpet bombed with drones and attacks from fighter jets and other heavy machinery... The average American doesn't have defenses against such. So that's a moot point. Modern warfare doesn't need 100% boots on the ground ... Tear up DC first and the capitals of each state and we're basically rudderless.

And do you think is it worth it to have a totalitarian oligarchy regime? ( yes, that's exactly what you have).
Immigration and DEI shit was just the propaganda your new masters used to get to power and it worked like a charm.

I don't agree with that at all, stupid move. On the other hand, I can guarantee this European rearmament will be used to help with imprisonment of those guilty of thought crimes and political opposition. They have become a Soviet-lite recently and their attacks on encryption and physical cash should be scary to anyone living there.

I think this is happening most likely because the EU and global banking system is completely broken and in order to keep it propped up they need war to keep the money going with fake, legalized counterfeit produced by the Bank of England, European Central Bank, and if they can get it from the Federal Reserve. Our whole monetary sytem is a ticking time bomb and more fake money is required to prevent complete collapse. All wars are banker's wars, at least in the past few centuries.

The European powers should be spending big on defence. The continent has been ran like USAID on steroids for 2 decades.

The UK has super carriers and fighter jets but doesn’t even have the infrastructure to use these in war zones without US assistance.

I don’t see why this has to be done under the EU umbrella though. There’s nothing stopping the UK and France from doing this independently.

Increased spending should not lead to tighter European integration and an eventual EU army.

Again the US has the most advanced offensive and defensive systems in the world.

Over 50% of all military spending in the entire world (yearly) is the US military.

1% or all money spent on planet earth (yearly) is spent by the US military.

They have most planes, tanks, missiles, AA, ships and the most advanced forms of these and most of the population is heavily armed.

For example The US has over 15K militarized planes, the next closest country has under 5K (which is Russia).

You would even make it to the South.

You don't have to like, but it's the way it is.

I said "if"

Where did I say it was plausible?

I said "if"... And IF the US was invaded and drawn into a stalemate, this is hypothetical and not based on current realities, would "better than nothing" be your stance here?
