Do not come in here & say " Florida" then leave there is an actual discussion to be had here.
Console generations last a lot longer nowadays and even in the 12th year we are still getting games for PS4/Xbox One which means Xbox Series should still be getting games in 2032. So what's Microsoft plans for the hardware? They barely responded to PlayStation Holiday discounts so if there is a real PlayStation 5 price drop coming soon will they react or just let Xbox Series sales continue to fade ? Will they even boost production for the arrival of Grand Theft Auto VI?
I think the consoles will very obviously still get support as why drop support for a device that still has 30ish million owners.
I don’t think you can disconnect Series consoles from the general future of Xbox and I don’t think even Microsoft
Knows what they want to do with Xbox. They already had thoughts of killing the brand before Series consoles even came out.
I think it’s obvious that Microsoft isn’t pushing them as much, and the idea may very well be to let it slowly fade versus how Sega ended it. Microsoft can’t announce that they aren’t working on anything because then it really is the end and if people know the brand is gone then there really is no point in buying a Xbox or GamePass or buying games on their platform.
I actually just bought a Series X again, and I’ve played more on it then any other platform I have right now even owning a PS5 Pro and a capable PC. A lot of this is from BC though as while I own multiple working PS3s and a working 360 it’s easier to play these on a current platform plus I was gifted a year of GPU so the games in the near future I would buy on PC or PS I will simply play on Xbox like Expedition 33.
They said loud and clear that they have new hardware, I'm not sure if it will be mass produced though
I definitely think they will have new hardware, but who knows what it will be.
I think Xbox could exist in a more “niche” high end way possibly.
Microsoft have a slew of games coming out that are 1st party. Here’s a thought- cancel your day 1 sub service for these games, make people BUY the games and, most importantly, MAKE THEM EXCLUSIVES TO XBOX CONSOLES! That might help sales of their consoles.
I think the backlash of effectively shutting down GamePass would be the actual final nail in the coffin of Xbox.
They could wind it down third party wise, but I just see the backlash in dropping 1st party titles alone as too much.
I’ll die on the hill that Play Anywhere was a huge part of what killed Xbox. Play Anywhere started in what? 2016? This was the time that PC gaming was starting to become mainstream and while it probably seemed like a good idea to support it you gave away a big reason to buy hardware over other hardware.
Im assuming, from all the rumours…
- Windows based compact gaming PC
- Windows based desktop gaming PC
- Windows based gaming handheld
…will be the 3 variants. As they’re PC based it’s a much lower risk to Microsoft. Their competitors will be Asus and Lenovo, not Sony and Nintendo.
I think this is actually the smartest way but whether or not they will do it is another question. A PC with a Xbox-like front end similar to how SteamOS works.
Internally a PC, but navigation wise and externally a Xbox console.
I’ve always liked what the Surface team has been able to do and I feel like I remember hearing they worked on either the One S/X or the Series consoles. The Surface team is one of the few teams that’s been able to properly mimic the build of Apple.
Not state of Xbox I said State of Xbox Series
I think it’s hard to separate the state of Xbox and the state of the current consoles unfortunately.
Can any of the optimistics here explain why is almost impossible to buy an Xbox in certain Europe countries?
I don’t think there is an optimistic way to explain it.
I think it’s simply demand. If a product has 0 demand then it will get 0 supply and from a business standpoint it’s smart. You simply reallocate your resources to other places.
Europe has already always been PlayStation heavy at least in the west, and combined with PC being popular (this is an American POV formulated simply by observation and second hand accounts) the Xbox doesn’t really have much chance.
