‘We stand ready’: Nightdive says it wants to start remastering Xbox 360 and PS3 era games

Another criminally ignored game that desperately need a remaster:

I came here to post this!

Cleaning up ps3/360 era games is an honorable thing, developers got comfortable that gen with the brown colors, and so Dragon Age Origins would be a good candidate, Uncharted 1 can’t go wrong, Killzone 2.

Lots of issues. Especially on Switch. Constant humming sounds etc. developers don't even care to address it nor respond to those who complained.

I hate these practices. They butchered the game and let those who bought it down.
IIRC the "fixed" it on PC by letting you play the original version

I love Nightdive but their productivity is all over the place. Take SiN for example, announced years ago but still no updates. I hope they bring Chronicles of Riddick back.
I loved what they've done with games like System Shock Remake, but their last few releases were disappointing. I can partially understand the limitations when porting the game using an emulator (I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream), but not when it's a remaster (The Thing) and some basic things like the user unfriendly UI were kept the same.

Nightdive generally delivers the goods, but the amount of work to remaster PS360 era games would be an order of magnitude more than remastering games like PowerSlave and The Thing. There's plenty of OG Xbox-era games that need some love - Timesplitters, Mercenaries, Obscure, KOTOR - that trying to tackle bigger games might be setting themselves up for failure. Spending several years to remaster Condemned Criminal Origins only for it to sell 50,000 copies is probably not a solid strategy, in my opinion.

The article mentions both Haze and PS3 architecture... could this be a hint to some sort of partnership with Sony? Maybe NightDive can tackle the first party PS3 stuff. Anything big on x360 is probably on PC already. The only caveat I can think of are licensed games.

Now, looking at NightDive previous picks, my first guess would be Starbreeze games.
  • The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena
  • The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
  • The Darkness
  • Syndicate
Maybe, some Activision stuff now owned by MS:
  • Blur
  • Deadpool
  • Spider Man games
  • Transformers titles
  • Wolfenstein (2009)
  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine
...and some random shit
  • Afro Samurai
  • Dark Sector
  • Dante's Inferno
  • Goldeneye Reloaded
  • Splatterhouse
  • Stranglehold
  • Wet

Aliens: Colonial Marines

Now at least please hear me out before you annihilate me. Yes, the Gearbox bullshot trailer happened and all of that, I know, I know, trust me, we all know. And it was bad business for sure. Money was taken but "reallocated" and all of that scumbaggery. Randy Pitchford, was it? Scumbag.

But from what I recall playing, it wasn't a terrible game. There was supposedly a bad line of code that negatively affected the Aliens behavior and AI, which certainly didn't help. I think there was also a part where the Aliens spawned in waves and after X amount were killed you could progress but that part was bugged too. I could be confusing that with another game, though. The game itself was a decent enough romp as a Marine killing Aliens vibe in that universe, though. Had it been billed as just another AA game with an Aliens license and some standard levels and checkpoints and shooty shooty Aliens fare, and without the fucked up coding and without the bullshot trailer fiasco, I think history would remember that game differently as just another cool AA game in the Aliens universe. I'd love to see what they could do with it graphically and with fixed coding. I want that game to get another chance. I'm not some Aliens fanatic but I do love the first two films enough to wish for a better game than we got with that one.

Please for the love of god Quake 4. It had major slowdown due to being a launch game and yes there is a PC version but that does not have native support for joypads.
