This has NOTHING on Diddy Kong racing. If they could have just copied that.

If they copied Diddy Kong Racing with "star" collection to unlock new areas combined with bosses, etc.....man oh man, it would go down as an all time classic.

I think they simply thought that would be too much of a challenge to players having to unlock tracks like that and so they bowed to casual appeal instead.....Boo.

looks fun, and there are missions in the world with those hidden P buttons -- hard to tell but I get the sense that they'll activate different kinds of challenges when you find them, not just blue coin runs

Never expected them to put so much effort into MK tbh. I expected another 16 tracks / 4 cups with a reboot to the characters down to a core 12 again.

This must be up there with Zelda for the most expensive Nintendo game ever made surely? There's 100's of outfits alone…

What do you base that on? They barely told us anything we didn't already know.

As a huge Mario kart fan. World delivers the largest advancements in Mario kart history.

Full open world to explore and collect items / secrets.

24 player races, all new items.

New skill moves to avoid weapons. Jumps tricks. WALLRIDING!

Fully online with 4 teams of 6 players. Competitive Mario kart, anyone??

Fall guys esque battle royal elimination online.

Racing to next races. Battle mode.

If you have a sniff of interest and don't think this looks amazing for Mario kart, we truly are reaching a point where people are dead inside.

Each to their own but im hyped as fooook.

Edit. I hope we can have a large Mario kart community here and do some online races together.

Guess they got the menu designer for Echoes of Wisdom to work on this game. Character selection looks obnoxious.
Yeah, it's even more annoying here though considering they had this figured out in Mario Kart 8 where you can pick colors for Yoshi after you've actually picked Yoshi..

So you know it's not just an oversight but rather a very intentional design decision.

MK8 was much much cleaner and showed every character on one page. With this you'll be flipping through pages for whatever character or costume you want to use. I'd prefer select a character then select a costume. Selecting you kart looks to share the same format.

It's a very interesting design decision.

It's a bad design choice. I dunno who is in charge of UI, but it'll be much easier to have 3 columns, of selecting a character, outfit, and car.

Ok, I thought you were calling the Direct itself "bonkers". Almost all of that was known two weeks ago.

Yeah, which is super cool, I just wish they designed the menus better. Like, wtf is this?

13 (and maybe even more when everything's unlocked) freaking pages of characters/costumes to scroll through..

Yeah, if there isn't at least an option to display just the characters and then select costume separately, someone on their UX team is incredibly stupid. This CAN'T be the only way to select character/costume, I just can't believe that.

There is a sort button there. But yeah, its like a very simple menu design basically saying just scroll.

For me starting to reconsider my preorder, not the biggest Mario kart fan, it's ok to play a game now and again, to me this isn't the game I'd buy a system and play none stop for weeks or months, donkey Kong or a better flushed out single player game should have launched with the switch 2, plus people already complaining about the price of this game wait for six months and the paid dlc starts
this what i am doing once dk is out i am on the hunt for the bundle.

Dude, the main selling point of Mario Kart is racing with people, who the hell playing Mario Kart for story 😂.

People are pretty hyped for this game, Mario Kart World has the highest views for Switch 2 game and about to sell over 50m units easily.
I think the guy you're replying to is just saying what he hopes for in a Mario Kart evolution—he's not alone.

I don't play handheld or online. I got the Switch for deep, exclusive singleplayer games.

If Mario Kart leaned into that—like Smash did with its singleplayer modes—it'd be a home run for me.

Right now, it feels like they're pushing extras like a camera and online sub for features I don't care about.

Game looks fun, but it's not pushing me to pre-order, at all. To each their own :)

I didn't catch that. I thought it would be more like Smash Bros with a button on each character to cycle through costumes?

I thought there were just that many unique characters...if a cow in in it and you have little less than 30 characters per race, you need an huge roster.

but this being said, after seeing BOTW/TOTK/EoW UI and menu issues, I'm convinced Nintendo got the new generation of UI artists off a street.

I like the new outfits but the new characters seem very......lazy? Well except for Goomba, I love Goomba.

How long till this comes to Switch 1 due to sluggish adoption of the new system? We all know it could easily run it.
We do? Mario Kart 8 Deluxe runs 30fps in split-screen on Switch, and supposedly Mario Kart World runs 30fps in split screen on Switch 2.

No way they'd be able to port it to Switch(1) and keep it in a playable state. 30fps alone is already questionable for a racer.

Yes, adults buying their games for their kids. Sorry I struck a nerve about stating the obvious.

My dear 10yo, us Mellenials, who are already close or already in our 40s, grew up with Nintendo and Sega, we buy their games to play them ourselves, the fact that my kids like them is just the cherry on top.

Stop acting like my kid on his edgy/emo phase, it's cringe.
