Ghost of Yotei launches October 2

Another digital only game with a physical collector's edition. They should just make the physical collector's stuff a standalone collector's set with no game, so the user can decide between digital or physical in addition.

This method forces someone who wants the physical game to choose between getting the set and only going digital, choosing the set with the digital, then double dipping if they want the physical too, or just not bothering with the collector's set altogether.

Take the modular approach, remove the game entirely.

No gameplay trailer but here's the preorder link lol.
Anyway, it's not like they have something wow to show in the gameplay department.
Ghost of Tsushima 1.5. Easy skip.

weird marketing... Like, do they have no confidence in the game or something? Where is our dedicated PS Direct and things like that?

I need a Rockstar-style "things to do in Ghosts of Yotei" trailer where it's showing new mechanics, teasing interesting moments, etc.

Instead we got a random blog post tweet with a short trailer that shows nothing and a launch date.

No physical copy of the game in the physical collector's edition.

Sony's marketing seems totally brain-dead these days.

I don't like how low energy this all is. A new Ghost game is supposed to be a big deal, Tsushima was a huge hit for them and a very popular game overall.

"Here's a trailer, and the collector's edition, and a preorder date, and a release date. Whatever"

This is AC: Shadows story lol

No way, Shadows has 12 masked villains called the Onryo who killed off your family and this game has 6 masked villains called the Onryo who killed off your family. This game is half as good as Shadows confirmed.

It's a sony game, so I'm willing to bet she's gonna forgive the baddie, bonus points if the baddie had a gentle parent and her family killed them. More points if it turns out the baddie and MC are related somehow.

Sony really wants to spend no money on marketing and just hope all their games go viral. We'll see how that strategy goes.

Sony has no idea what it is doing lately.

Happy that it'll come out towards the end of this year.
Need a time-out from feudal Japan after AC Shadows.

Cautiously optimistic about Marathon, so if that game turns out well, along with this, Playstation will end the year strong.

Assasins Creed -> mid

Ghost of Yotai -> copies from Assassin's Creed.

Hence Ghost of Yotai -> mid

Its simple math.

The story setup being the same as AC Shadows down to the "Onryo" and the masks is fucking hilarious. makes me gag.
Anyway the trailer really didn't wow me for some reason. I think I miss Jin. I have a feeling in my stomach that this will be another case of a Sony sequel that doesn't hit the same way the original did. Or maybe I just have the shits.

Edit: Man, I think I just found something even more hilarious. The blog post talks about a new "gameplay mechanic" that lets you explore Atsu's past. You can see at the end of the trailer that you, depending on the context of where you are in the open world I'm guessing, get instantly teleported to some flashback where you see her as a kid. That's....the exact same "mechanic" in AC Shadows where you could sit down at specific points in the open world and meditate as Naoe to get flashback missions from the time before her village got assaulted. What a coincidence huh?

Honestly I'm pretty grateful. I used to struggle avoiding spoiling myself with trailers since they knew how to pull my hype strings. Now I just don't care.

I'm excited and positive about this game, but somehow in the trailer it looks like a PS4 game. Not trying to be mean or anything.
The thing is, Ghost of Tsushima was a late PS4 game, and very beautiful PS4 game at that. But yeah I agree that without looking back at old footage, this feels very similar. Like an extension with a different character.

Nothing new released this year has intrested me so far sadly. Unless the game has been infiltrated by insidious purple haired people, I'll be buying day one. I've been gagging for a new samurai game since Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut.

Very Underwhelming visuals, Shadows looks better from what I've seen. This has way better cutscenes though.

It's also seemingly the EXACT same story. hopefully theres some twists...

They need to show off some raw combat.

I like Sucker Punch games.

It seems there will be a decent amount of bosses, and different weapons.

I'm in when I can get this for $50.

Easy skip for me - stars that insane actress - and the first game was already overrated. Don't need the girlboss version of it.

It's pretty funny how they got beat to the punch by Ubisoft doing the exact same thing though. Only western devs would make literally two games starring women set in feudal Japan in the same year lol.
Not in the same year, but close enough, Japan did it first:

Tenchu Fatal Shadows, developed by K2 (July 2004):

Red Ninja, developed by Tranji Studios (march 2005):

Anyway, I am extremely hyped. Day one.

Digital Collectors edition is annoying.
Gotta buy it anyway to match my Jin mask. Love these Ghost collector sets.

Probably double dip in a few years for a disc at discount.

Was that an ainu woman?
They better have some Sugimoto/Asirpa easter egg somewhere

(Yeah I know it takes place like 300 years later)

As for the game. It looks like more of the same to me, which doesn't make me very excited as I thought the first one was kinda mid.

I guess on the bright side, AC Shadows will probably start getting some steep discounts by end of the year. Might give it a go.

Glad I didn't pickup AC shadows as it would have certainly burnt me out on the story and style of gameplay. Footage looks great and I'd wager this would be the better game (too early to tell for sure, obviously).

Will wait for the wizards to break it down frame by frame.

To me this confirms GTA6 is a December release, like Cyberpunk, like the Avatar movies.

The true megatons drop in December right before Christmas.

She is the Onryo aka vengeful ghost. Those targets are called the Yokai Six

Sucker Punch are hard at work, unlike for example ND, game/trailer gives me kill bill vibes so far, didnt see anything horrendous in terms of feminism/wokeism so far, female protag looks actually pretty cool, all the animations we saw so far have that uniqueness and finese to them u would expect from master swordsman, so far very pleased with what i saw, wishing the game/dev studio the best :)

No idea how you extrapolate that info from this.
It's pretty obvious they'd want to launch at least 2 months away from that behemoth. And other giant entertainment products have launched in December. It's just a hunch. They also released the first trailer in December. They seem to like the month
