I'm getting it, maybe not day 1 though. Couldn't give two shits about how one side is doing mean things to the other side, i dont get offended easily. These political events are just a pendulum that swings back and forth. I know how to unplug from social media and touch grass.

It has nothing to do with this game.

It's the absolutely pathetic display in the discussion surrounding the death of Charlie Kirk and how "terrible" it is that some people were cheering.

You guys literally went Woke fullstop.

And just like Woke, you're completely in denial.

Can't even form a coherent argumentative sentence to explain himself. What a doofus.

Edit: nvm, problem solved.

Anyway, Yotei. Please be good.

I think choosing to not buy a product with hundreds of people working on it purely based on the statement of one employee that already got fired is stupid, but that's just my opinion.

I think if they address it, most people are ok. The problem at the moment is the ambiguity

I can only speak for myself, but my choice not to buy the game is not because of one person's shitty take on bluesky. It is about Sony's total silence about the situation. Many organizations have addressed the public about people associated with them or employed by them and at the very least distanced themselves from the shitty things being said. Sony and Sucker Punch have decided to do none of that. As a result, I've decided not to give them my money.

For those who are buying it, I hope it is great.

10 out of 160 is pretty insignificant, and if they get fired as well, I hold the same position.
I went from "never touch a SP game again" to getting it used since they fired it. I'd buy new if Sony made a statement condemning such behavior, but don't bet on them doing it.

Was on the fence. Loved the first one. Got a lot out of the PS4/pro, looked superb except the low res textures on the cliffs/rocks.
But the quality of the graphics in the trailer for this game .. given this is a PS5 exclusive, they phoned it in. Quite disappointing when we saw what they could do with the PS4. Couldn't care less about the sex of the protagonist.

However the current events moved me off the fence. No longer interested.

More old timer members getting permed for politics than gaming .. sigh.

I agree with GAF's no politics rule, let us go out as the console fanboys as we are, not for political disagreements.
If people were civil to each other

I honestly couldn't care less who everyone else loves, I would never try to change their minds, even my own wife and I haven't agreed all the time but we have never fought about it

I never let red/blue get in the way of anything

They won't address it for fear of hurting their launch even more.

Just looks extra bad when every other company out there with similar employees had no problem making a statement.

It's still a maybe later as it's always been. I liked the first one as well as the DLC but the new one doesn't interest me all that much. The main character just seems annoying.

To clarify on that. I'm definitely not one of those people that hate seeing female protagonists, and I actually like when games have well written "strong" female characters but whatever her name is just comes across like generic 2025 insufferable girl boss and the voice actress definitely doesn't help.

The whole Sucker Punch employee thing didn't really have much bearing on my decision but it did make waiting a bit easier, and them firing her also made it easier

Finally this guy is banned... never saw him contribute positively for any conversation.. just sony shilling and condescending to others.. bye bye sugar

On topic.. no Im not picking UP this game.. the last three Sony games I attempted to play (The last of us 2, Horizon FW, spider man2 ) were infected with themes, messages and characters I didnt like to the point I wasnt able to finish any of them ... its pretty obvious to me for some time the problem with sony studios and the quality of their games, recent events from the concord/professor debacle to this absurd support for murder just cemented my opinion ... Im not buying anything more from Sony California until I see some change.

The last good game I played from them was Days Gone .. and now I know why they canned that game and its director. No surprise whatsoever.

I will buy it on PC when it's on sale. I am not hyped for this at all, like the shit surrounding it has deflated my excitement for it.

It needs tons of positive WOM to reignite my hype for it.

I don't think people are just basing it on this. I think it's the straw that's broken the camel's back.

There's been months of concerns about how woke Yotei will be. People have been calling it "Ghost of Woke-tei" since the day it was revealed. Many were really not liking the choice of protagonist and the gender bender nutter who plays her. The last thread about her not writing poems like Jin did descended into a massive argument. I myself had concerns when I read that several of the Dragon Age Veilguard writers joined the project. There's simply been a bad whiff about this game from the start.

Now that some of the team have celebrated the political slaying of a public figure over pretty milquetoast conservative opinions (which let's not forget a good portion of people hold), it's understandable why this has been the tipping point for customers. It can almost be seen as a confirmation of every fear that people had about the game.

You skip GoY because you're triggered by wokies

I skip GoY because it's Ubi-inspired open world slop

We're not the same

My biggest problem is they have made zero effort to convince people otherwise.

All these terrible combat trailers but we still basically know nothing about how the open world works, what activities you can do except bounties and shrines. Are there towns? Can you visit shops? How alive is the world? What improvements have they made since Tsushima, aside from adding four different weapons and a gun?

That state of play was pretty bad and ever since we basically got these dumb 50 second combat trailers.

I don't know why they're so stingy about all this. It's a sequel, how can you NOT point out all the improvements you made?

I had pre-ordered it a while back cause I got a great deal, but I wasn't sure that I was going to keep it, the dev mocking Kirk pushed me over the edge to cancel. SP still haven't issued an official statement disavowing her and her views so even if they fired her, I still take it to mean they agree with her.

But I think that even without Kirk's assassination, I would've cancelled in the end. I'm really not feeling what I've seen of the game. Jin was a likeable and honorable hero, a man fighting to protect his homeland from foreign invaders who rape/murder the locals. That's something that probably resonates all too well for many Westerners these days. Atsu on the other hand is unlikable and unrealistic in every way possible. They wanted a female character but there's nothing female about her, even her name sounds butch as fuck. I want to play a grounded samurai game not an LGBT girlboss fantasy version of early Edo period Japan.

Even the combat looks so uninspired and boring. Switching stances mid-combat made sense in Tsushima, but switching weapons mid-combat feels stupid and not at all grounded in Yotei. The story seems to be extremely similar to AC Shadows as well. The female protagonist of that game was also hunting the killers of her family for revenge and those killers also wore masks. I guess that's what happens when you hire talentless Sweet Baby rejects to write your games.

The devs even took time to shit on JIn during interviews saying "Atsu doesn't write poems, she collects bounties" meaning you know, she's not some pussy who writes poetry like Jin, she's a badass girlboss who can easily take out a dozen 200-pound guys at once. Nah I don't need this game or anything else from this studio (I should probably stay clear of any Seattle-based studio to be safe). I got Trails in the Sky remake and BF6 coming out soon, Yotei won't be missed in the slightest.

Simply being a Chinese developer isn't going to matter for a lot of people considering the fact that so many of the products we buy come from China. You might as well urge people to not buy cell phones so that's an unrealistic take all around.
Cellphones, PC's, consoles, tv's, home appliances, etc.

and that's completely fine, its completely fine to have different reasons not to buy something

its that simple really. this is what I love about Gaf, different opinion from both sides

I liked GoT but changes in GoY alongside main character just don't look interesting to me.

I really liked different stances and the story was fine if couple hundred years too early regarding samurai behavior.

But the new one just doesn't have anything to draw me in. Maybe I will get it in couple of years on PC for $30 just to mess around with combat.

Why are people such assholes that they want to boycott and punish dozens of people because of some bullshit one person did? It's pathetic and really fucking weak.
Who is calling for a boycott? I think you are confusing organized protests with individuals making decisions on what to do or not do with their own money.

You know this is not it.

Just in case you didn't: what are the chances for managers and studio directors with extreme political opinions to hire people who dont share their same values? We both know the answer. Remember: this Drew girl claims to "punch nazis" and by nazis she means every conservative. It's basic common sense to presume that she doesn't hire or work alongside any of the "nazis" or else the atmosphere in the studio would be unbearable.

I can't remember any dev working at Sony expressing anything other than progressive propaganda. Not a single one of them. They hire trans activists, they work with SBi... all that decision-making leans heavily to the left.

10 or 20 are the ones who make the more noise in social media, but it's easy to figure out that those studios are a political hivemind and by extension, a creative hivemind too. If everyone thinks the same and has the same ideas, it´s impossible they come up with something fresh or innovative.

Just look at the state of the cinema industry. Absolute talent drain, just like in videogames.

You're totally mischaracterizing why people actually want to boycott the game, making it out like they just want to hurt individual developers instead of wanting Sucker Punch fire this person for her disgusting comments.

You do realize that if Sucker Punch doesn't fire her then they are tacitly in agreement with her, right?
