Interesting, where did you hear this?Bungie in shambles hearing these impressions.
Sony getting ready to shut them down. It's gonna be ironic that Sony will ultimately kill the studio that made Halo.
Probably some secret Xbox Discord.Interesting, where did you hear this?
His arse.Interesting, where did you hear this?
Yeah the general sentiment from those folks who like MP games and who are actually playing it seem pretty positive.
We'll only know when it comes out. I love a good online shooter, and I especially love Bungie's distinct mechanical style more than all of the others combined. But I'm not huge on the extraction genre as it is, and well I just cannot get past the visual style they have gone for. It's a couple of steps up from Roblox at best and I'm not interested in giving the game a go even if it was free. But they've got absolutely no chance, charging for this. I suggest it's not exactly insightful thinking to see the writing's well on the wall.
I found the quote:
Article: "Sony has invested heavily in "games as a service," or video games designed to be monetized beyond their initial sales through ongoing purchases. As part of that push it asked another of its video-game studios, Seattle-based Bungie, to evaluate the games across its portfolio. Bungie raised questions about the The Last of Us multiplayer project's ability to keep players engaged for a long period of time, which led to the reassessment."
I don't think ND would even have the autonomy to make a decision like that after developing a project for 4 years.
Naughty Dog had MP in EVERY game they released since the first Uncharted. TLoU 2 was the only exception.I think this is a misinterpretation at least going on ND's public statements, which basically are in line with this, that they'd have to retool the studio for live service content creation to keep the game engaging rather than be a single player game studio.
Not that the game simply got boring or not engaging.
Having a mp mode is something entirely different from releasing a full-fledged live service game.Naughty Dog had MP in EVERY game they released since the first Uncharted. TLoU 2 was the only exception.
They already had a team in place for this and would have likely expanded. This isn't some fucking indie dev here, this isn't their first rodeo.
All ND has done this gen is fucking remasters. This is a bullshit excuse.
Amazing on how you pull up news from nowhere, blame Bungie for the quality of an approach they were on before Sony bought them (live services), and then blame Sony if they were to close them because of what Bungie was doing.Bungie in shambles hearing these impressions.

I know Twitch viewership isn't the best metric but guess people have seen enough as its sitting at 10k viewers and out of the top 25 being watched

They already had the pieces in place to make it happen. They could have expanded, everything about a fully fleshed out live service game set in TLoU universe would have worked. Post-apocalyptic world with survival elements are there. Everything to facilitate a battle royale or extraction style game modes makes complete sense.Having a mp mode is something entirely different from releasing a full-fledged live service game.
You need a good product first and foremost, luck has little to do with it.People tend to think that the companies that have had large success with their gaas, did because they have some hard to come by knowledge of what is needed to be successful with it.
It's all BS.
The games that got big as a gaas did so because of a ton of luck/ right place at the right time.
If Epic tried to release a new gaas it would probably be just as unsuccessful.
People are almost exclusively already locked into whatever gaas they are going to play. They don't have time for more.
It's World of Warcraft and the big push for everyone to release an MMO, all over again.
Amazing on how you pull up news from nowhere, blame Bungie for the quality of an approach they were on before So y bought them (live services), and then blame Sony if they were to close them because of what Bungie was doing.
This is covering all bases trolling.
So? Why Couldn't they? You're not giving any good reason. You're just making up excuses. What's the alternative? Buy another studio that has never produced anything (Concord) and put your faith in them?Big difference between a multiplayer game and a live service game.
To keep players playing a live service game you need to constantly create new content to keep the player levels high and have people buying content and buying the game in perpetuity.
New maps, new skins, new weapons, new mechanics, e.t.c.
ND just released a game in summer 2020, where is the criticism of CDPR who has only put out a DLC? What has Rockstar released?
What major AAA devs have released a game after TLOUP2 and have released a brand new AAA game without asset re-use at the same size and scope of a game like TLOUP2 since? They don't exist.
They literally explained why they didn't release Factions and it sounds perfectly reasonable. They already had the pieces in place to make it happen. They could have expanded, everything about a fully fleshed out live service game set in TLoU universe would have worked. Post-apocalyptic world with survival elements are there. Everything to facilitate a battle royale or extraction style game mods makes complete sense.
This is a garbage excuse, especially so since Sony's focus is now on live service games. They could have made it happen. But no, they instead bought the fucking studio that made Concord only for it to crash and burn.
They already said why they couldn't/didn't want to. I would have took the entire studio's resources and they also want to make other single player titles. So? Why Couldn't they? You're not giving any good reason. You're just making up excuses. What's the alternative? Buy another studio that has never produced anything (Concord) and put your faith in them?
TLoU is an established IP for fuck sake, the players would have showed up for it.
Your reasoning is "live service games are hard". Jesus fucking christ I swear some of you just will make up any excuse to defend Sony's blunders this gen.

So you don't think it would have been worth the effort because of "whiners?" Full attention on Intergalactic?! BULLSHIT.They literally explained why they didn't release Factions and it sounds perfectly reasonable.
Also, why would they expand, when they need their full attention on Intergalactic and their other sp project?
And even if they would've released Factions, most whiners would still be whining, because Factions is live service and they should've invested their time and resources into singleplayer and yadayadayada...
RIP Bungie lol
Welcome to Halos and Destiny 2 on PC.Aim assist for Mouse?
That's a first.
There will be whiners whatever they do, so better do what they think is best and that's focus on singleplayer games. So you don't think it would have been worth the effort because of "whiners?"
I think you should take a deep breath and take a walk outside, my man.Full attention on Intergalactic?! BULLSHIT.
How many games did ND release in the PS3 gen? 4. How many did they release in the PS4 gen? 3. How many have they released this gen? Literally fucking ZERO. Sorry remasters don't count.
Could they have had the foresight sooner? Probably but I'm not a dev and don't know how this played out.
The negative sentiment comes from people who wanted Bungie to do a story-driven game with a campaign mode.Impressions I'm reading in general on reddit and other places are not negative, many are really positive.
Here people want the game to fail, it's absolutely obvious, like they wanted AC Shadows to fail and it didn't happen. You won't find genuine comments with such attitude.
It is what it is.
Pretty spot on here as well, the gunplay is actually decentGotta play it to pass judgement. Bungle gunplay and weapons are always top notch.
This art style is dreadful and outdated imo.
They have that in Destiny though. They make what you/they are asking for and they would be basically competing against themselves, that would make no sense. The negative sentiment comes from people who wanted Bungie to do a story-driven game with a campaign mode.
It is not even ou yet....wtf are you talking about?Nobody is talking about it because its full of cheaters
Seems there was a closed beta a while ago according toIt is not even ou yet....wtf are you talking about?
It is the only game I'm looking forward to.
Sony is a shadow of their former self, completely mismanaged and wasted time/money/resources. They are coasting on 3rd parties and the failure of their major competitor. Factions 2 would have been a HIT if they put forth the effort. But whatever, it's pointless trying to have this discussion with boot lickers like you.I gave you reasons, you just don't seem to understand them.
You have finite resources. If you're building a live service team and Bungie recommends x number of people working on content creation and general upkeep, and you determine that that's going to take you away from your core mission, you might rethink things.
They weren't going to finish the game in time for the release of the first season, which itself is a major failure. That was the key time to release the game and once you miss that window, your entire premise is diminished.
It wasn't just that live service games are hard, but financially, it doesn't make sense to keep digging yourself into a hole just to transform your studio into something you don't want it to be in the first place.
Not sure why you were bringing up Concord and Firewalk. Happy to hear why though.
Yeah my bad I meant the beta. It is a good game but if they won't control the cheaters it will die fastIt is not even ou yet....wtf are you talking about?
It is the only game I'm looking forward to.
Yeah, it's honestly pretty sad. No one should wish a game/studio to fail. Saying it's not for you is one thing, but straight up saying it's shit, garbage, etc. is ridiculous to me. There are quite a few people being negative/toxic towards the platform they don't prefer, as well as others that are excited. It's surreal how much many people want the game to fail and for a studio like Bungie to have to close, and just because Sony bought them, it's not even exclusive, anyone can play it if they want.
May I suggest you chill out a little, no need to insult others with a different point of view.Sony is a shadow of their former self, completely mismanaged and wasted time/money/resources. They are coasting on 3rd parties and the failure of their major competitor. Factions 2 would have been a HIT if they put forth the effort. Wait a sec... did I miss the beta? As far as I know there hasn't been one...Yeah my bad I meant the beta. It is a good game but if they won't control the cheaters it will die fast
Most of which would be overlooked if the game was greatThere are a lot of negative people around Marathon
There's nothing you can do about a lot of these people, but there are things that they can and should be doing and could probably do over the course of a year or two, like retool the visuals, make it more like the original Marathon, build a single player campaign. At the end of the day I think Bungie was expecting that they would just dominate because they have the only AAA extraction shooter on PC and Console, but on console it's going to require PS+ and Xbox Live, so the audience is going to be limited as a non F2P game.
- Influencers that want ragebait
- Destiny fans that feel like Bungie is ignoring Destiny in favor of Marathon
- Tarkov players who don't want people jumping ship
- Xbox and PC fans who hate Sony
- Sony fans who hate Sony doing live service games
- People who are upset that there isn't a single player campaign mode
- Marathon fans who don't feel like this is Marathon at all
- People who think the visuals look really bad
I don't think Sony would let them delay the game without massive layoffs, but it's probably necessary for Bungie's long term survival.
Oust the leadership team, roll under PlayStation Studios, and start making games that people actually want.
RIP Bungie lol
Destiny still brings in the cash, it was second highest in steam revenue or something last year. They had to shrink the team (some of which moved to other offices and not let go) but I think they are far away from shutting them down.Interesting, where did you hear this?
How so? It looks like it plays nothing like a BR.It plays like a battle royale wearing extraction shooter clothing.
Marathon, you will never be an extraction shooter. Embrace your true nature.
Sure you did. It was back in May 2024Wait a sec... did I miss the beta? As far as I know there hasn't been one...
Most of which would be overlooked if the game was great
Sure you will have your pure warriors as that will never change
This is the kicker in any situation. If the game/gameplay is great, innovative, etc. you will feel it and see it in a variety of ways. The ones being overly toxic would easily be ignored and shunned. Most of which would be overlooked if the game was great
Sure you will have your pure warriors as that will never change
If this game bombs, I fear it could be the end of Bungie, or at the least, a majority getting laid off.
I really wish Bungie would go back to it's roots (heyday) of making epic campaigns like the Halo 1-Reach days.
