Analysts expected Switch 2 to sell between 6-8 million units at launch (More than PS4, PS5, or Switch launches)

As a comparison, the PS4 sold 4.5 million units in its first two months, the PS5 sold 4.5 million units in its first two months, and the Switch sold 2.8 million in its first month. 6-8 million in one month would be ~> half of Wii U's total sales, and more than Steam Deck's lifetime sales.

So I guess that boycott over pricing was successful.

It all depends on how many they can produce. If 1 retailer in Japan got 2.2M preorders they should easily blow past ps4 and ps5.

taka-moron has the worst predictions but i think it'll sell very well at first.

I will be honest, as someone with a lot of disposable income even i was hesitant to press checkout, its very expensive

It won't sell 6-8 million just because there simply won't be supply for that. But this is mochizuki - rabid fanboy masquerading as an analyst so what do you expect

it's not about how many they can sell, but how many they can produce.

they will sell their entire stock

I mean he still far from the biggest in the category, Michael Pachter

Michael Pachter believes that Nintendo should ditch the Switch in favour of Switch Lite

"And Nintendo isn't that smart, so you never know what they will do next, but I think the smart thing would be to get rid of the Switch console and only have the Switch Lite, get rid of the docking station, get rid of playing on the TV; maybe offer a Fire Stick style dongle for those who do want to play it on the TV. But I just think that a portable-only Switch makes the most sense, it's the cheapest to make, and they could make the screen nicer and the build quality better."

The Switch lite being the worst selling model of all 3

Let's wait and see. This time around the switch is not as affordable as it was last gen. What is the launch window 1-3 months.

I'm sure they'll sell their entire initial stock, but would they really have 8M ready to go day 1?

They've already said a significant portion of the 2M attempting the lottery in Japan will not be getting a system.

I would jump in if they had a killer app (I realize Mario Kart is one for many, but not me)

Once they roll out their new Mario's and new Zelda's and such. Probably will join

Anyone with a brain would know they will sell out what they can make. Its also why we won't see Mario, Zelda, AC or Smash until they think they've sold enough.

Isn't he the same analyst, that said the PS5 could possibly sell 1 billion consoles?

Gaming has only gotten bigger and Nintendo is coming off a w console that they held onto for a long time (its so ug ly and slow) and the price is currently reasonable (console wise). So it tracks.

Frankly, I think that's very unrealistic. I don't think they have that much stock, especially given the tariff-drama which probably forced them to play "wait and see" game for a while.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has a launch price of $450. That is:

$150 more than the Xbox Series S at launch.
$50 more than the PS5 (digital-version) at launch.
$50 less than the PS5 (disc-version) at launch.
$50 less than the Xbox Series X at launch.

Despite this, the Nintendo Switch 2 is far weaker than every one of these devices (all of which came out 4.5 years ago). Additionally, Nintendo is launching this with an increase in game prices. Games will be sold for $80. Standard editions, mind you. This isn't talking about deluxe editions or collectors editions.

That so many people just accepted this absolutely blows my mind. I weep for humanity, for it is lost.

Yeah, I wasn't able to preorder either. ☹️

Games matter more than teraflops for most people, and Nintendo's are some of the most popular in the business.

For a system that's getting the next 8+ years of Nintendo software in a convenient and flexible form factor, $450 isn't unreasonable at all.

That's where I am at the moment. It would be nice to wait for the OLED model and a new Zelda/Mario but this may be 3 years off.

I personally prefer ass.

Jokes aside, Nintendo could push 20m or so across the counter pretty fast, only to have it collect dust on the shelves afterwards when all the die hard fans have gotten one. I don't think families will buy in droves at this price point.
Families have been dropping more than $450 for consoles/tablets/etc for years now.

Only Mario Kart World (so far) is taking a fucking liberty, other games will not be priced so high.

It cannot be helped that it will have a terrific opening just based on how long they took to release a new machine and the highest ever goodwill the original Swich got for Nintendo. I will get one.

But Nintendo has been hadling this like ass. The prices, the fake physical games, the focus on Microsoft Teams screen share, the pay to use C button the pack in tech demo that's neither packed in or free, the crazy priced accesories... As soon as the honeymoon ends (and that's a s soon as people get tired of Mario Kart...) I think any momentum they have will hit a wall. Then it's on DK to lift spirits but not everyone is fully on board with that game and many people have reservations about it.

They have to have a Direct very soon after launch and date what's left for the rest of the year but also have significant announcements. Not sure they can make that happen. Hell, seeing how bad their PR has been around this I think they won't do anything around SGFest and just announce dates on Twitter or their app until september. That would be terrible but they look like a headless chicken right now so I consider it the most likely scenario.

I cant believe you and many other think this way. My phone cost me £1300 and isnt as powerful as a PS5....WHY!?!?!

Anyway, the switch 2 will probably have the biggest console launch in history and will be the best selling console month after month for many years to come.

That some people 8 years later still haven't realized how forward-thinking and enticing the hybrid proposition is for the mass, has to be expected and frowned upon.

PS4 before the Switch 1 launch (NSW launch price: $300):

Why not use a closer comparison?

The cheapest model for Steam Deck is $399. Same storage, smaller 60hz LCD screen, no DLSS, worse Wifi, lesser GPU, digital only. Docking station is $79 and doesn't come with controllers that have next gen haptics, gyroscope sensors, NFC reader, and can function as mice. Valve established these prices well before threats of trade wars.

So.. $480 for much less than what you get from super greedy Nintendo. Meanwhile, no-one here would dream of giving Nintendo kudos for allowing you to use your existing Switch accessories on the Switch 2 and for keeping the price NSO stable while improving its offering. They are giving free upgrades on some games (Mario Odyssey, Pokemon, Echoes of Wisdom, etc.). Not every single move they're making is an attempt to drain wallets.

The complaints about Mario Kart World being $80 are 100% valid. Anyone complaining about it is completely in the right for being pissed off or nervous about it. Sony introduced us to $70 games when the PS5 launched and many of us expected Nintendo to finally catch up with the current standard, not surpass it. I'm hoping this will be an uncommon price point for games, but Nintendo hasn't done much to reassure us that it isn't beyond pricing DK at $70.
