Switch 2 sold 5.82 million units worldwide in june 2025 (UP: Global sell-through sits at 6M units in 7 weeks )

Except it's not a "shit screen" unless you think any and every screen is automatically a "shit screen" if it's not an OLED. The overwhelming majority of Switch 2 owners say that it's a great screen for being "not an OLED"
Vast majority of Switch 2 owners have absolutely no idea what goes for "great screen". There is no need to be embarrassed - Nintendo as always went for the cheaper component to maximise profit margin (which is the highest out of all console manufacturers) and also lead inevitably to Switch 2 OLED in 3-4 years time. Why would they drop a great screen right from the start?

Yes it does

Nintendo used to sell a home console AND a portable console. Now they sell just a portable console that can be hooked to the TV (with upclocks)

It's still a portable console though
Nah, Nintendo sells a portable console that can also be converted to a home console, not the same thing.

You don't get the same experience when you plug your Steam Deck to the TV

More curious what the sales will look like over the next year.

I just don't think the value-to-price ratio is there for more mainstream consumers like it might have been with Switch 1.

The vast majority know what a "shit screen" is. Remember the GBA? The OG GBA?? That was a "shit screen" that basically everyone agreed on.

They went with LCD to cut down costs, and unlike Steam Deck or Switch 1 the Switch 2 screen supports VRR, which apparently has issues with OLED screens. People are already calling the system "too expensive". Putting in an OLED screen and charging an extra $100 would have been terrible for sales and a "reasonable" mass market price.

Nobody cares about Kirby's Air Ride. lol. Is this GigaBowser's alt?

I expect another big sales spike with Pokémon/holiday shopping. Outside of that, I fully expect Switch 2s to easily be found on store shelves.
I care about Kirby Air Riders

Sad Baby GIF

Despite it's shit screen, it seems to be selling really well. I expected all units gone for a couple of weeks, but never would I have guessed the numbers we've got so far. Will be interesting to see when this slows down. Maybe it even manages to keep the momentum through the holiday season.

I can't find an Xbox in any retail store to save my life.

Does that mean Xbox is selling gang busters?
I saw a Series X and a Series S in Walmart an hour or so ago when I went to buy a thumb drive. One being on a shelf means they're not selling anywhere at all.

You said I'm talking as if the Switch 2 is $800... it quite literally is $800 for me. The Switch 1 released in 2017 for I believe $400 CDN. Which was at least $100 cheaper than the PS5 or Series X launch price.

The Switch was seen as a less expensive option comparatively. $200 cheaper if compared to the PS5 with a disc drive.

NOW the Switch 2 is the most expensive console on the market outside of the PS5 Pro. You are closing your eyes pretending like past price expectations don't play a role in how this console is going to sell. It's not as powerful as a PS5 or Series X but it wants to charge as if it is.

I was day 1 for the Switch. So was my girlfriend. Neither of us want the Switch 2. It's a waste of money currently.
Question is what kind of portable console out there with the power of ps5 or series x that are cheaper or same price?

This isn't about LCD vs OLED, though. The issue is that it's a mediocre LCD display.

Why would a PC give the same experience??

And you get the "same" experience when you plug a PSP or a GBA or a Vitta on TV. SW/2 is a portable console with TV output out of the box. 🤷‍♂️

It's not.

Handheld mode: 1TFlops machine with 1080p 120hz VRR output, console mode: 3Tflop machine with 4K@120hz output without VRR

And some games of console modes work on handheld mode
Arbitrary limitations by Nintendo. It could have full clocks in handheld mode if Nintendo gives the option (like modded SW1 have). 🤷‍♂️

No you don't. We've been over this, Switch 1 games don't run at the same resolution (or even framerate sometimes) if it's docked or handheld gameplay, some games don't work on handheld mode and are only made for TV mode, for Switch 2 you get a 1Tflop machine at 1080p 120Hz VRR screen while on docked mode you have a 3 Tflops machine outputing 4K@120Hz without VRR.

I had the PS TV and it was like plugging my Vita on my TV. I have the Switch, it's not the same experience.

Again, arbitrary limitations by Nintendo. That is like saying PS5 was not a "home" console before having VRR or choice of resolution/frame rate.

There is nothing preventing Nintendo to patch the OS and games to have higher resolutions and/or frame rate as option in handheld mode. Maybe not even VRR docked as the Deck can do it through UBC-C after some patch.

For the reason you just stated.... They simply do not care.

7.9in
1080p
120hz
VRR
HDR
For under $500 (all of that which no other device on the market is offering at that price)

But "medicore" despite most people who actually own one saying it's great, for not being an OLED...right.

Are you sure this is not Nintendo selling consoles, then restocking stores in the traditional manner.

Mate, get over it. You lost this argument with his last post.

You keep clinging to this, "arbitrary limitations by Nintendo" but it isn't anything.

Could be.

My prediction was that Switch 2s would be easy to come by outside of the scenarios I described, not that they aren't selling.

All I have to go off of are the 3 or 4 S2s sitting on the shelves whenever I stop by Target or Walmart. I don't have a way to measure if they have collected any dust. 😂

Look for cobwebs... Although those little buggers can spin those webs pretty quick.
