Breaking: Xbox and Microsoft reveal global price increases for consoles, accessories — and even games

Phil Spencer clenching his buttcheeks, holding the line on the Game Pass price hike
Oh, it's coming.

Bruh, I've never seen anything this stupid in gaming. You're struggling to sell hardware and you turn around to increase the price astronomically.
Who's stupid enough to pay $429 for a 1TB Series S in 2025. Or even the 512gb version at $379?

Why buy a Series X for $599 when a PS5 Pro is $200 more? Why take the PR hit of being the first to trigger the price scaling to $80 for games? Because now, everyone will follow suit.

Last time they hiked prices up, it was to launch Redfall at $70 🙄

It's clear Spencer needs to go. He doesn't have the balls to hold his ground with Nadella. Other MS divisions have a long history of trading losses to get users. They bled money for Azure until they hit a critical mass of users and now it's a money spinner. They put over $100bn in AI and that's yet to grow a profit, but they're happy to play the long game there.

The smart move would have been to slash console prices. Eat the losses and grow the userbase until they can reset for next gen.

Clowns at Xbox, tbh.

It's not really surprising when they aren't even really trying to sell hardware anymore. It's there for people who really want it but they just don't care about that anymore. MS is focused on putting their software everywhere and making money that way.

Given that Xbox consoles no longer have exclusive games and are also releasing on PS5 platforms, who in their right mind would pay more for a Series X than a PS5/PS5 Pro?

So how is MS going to increase GamePass subscribers, if they aren't trying to sell more hardware?

Fantastic news, finally factoring in the cost of quality and publisher excellence to the RRP, about time. Well done MS! (y) (y)(y)
Yep, it's good that they are no longer devaluing their brand by offering it for cheap.

The only problem is that I was planning to add a third Series X to my collection next to the launch model and the Galaxy Black Edition.

Looks like I either have to act right now or pay the additional €50.

I'm not okay with any of the platform holders when they raise software prices, no matter who did it first (Sony, Nintendo, or MS). I edited the post out since it's not fair to just single out one platform holder when evidently they are all doing it.
Nintendo may have started it, but people would be naive to think that because Nintendo was 1st that everyone copied their lead. This was happening with games prices, it's just Nintendo got there 1st and copped the majority of the flack for it.

I have 2x xbox series x consoles in my home. I'm thinking if I hold onto them for a few more years which will no doubt include a few more price increases, I should be able to sell them and pay off my mortgage.

Given how well PS5 platforms sell in the US I'm gonna go 50/50 with them needing to raise prices. Its definitely not a guarantee.
I'd say corporate greed wins out. Why lose/not make an extra $100. It's not like their competitors are staying low price at this point. Perfect excuse to do it without hurting their current userbase it's not like they are playing catch up and can't afford the bad press.

We Turkish gamers were lucky I bought dozens of games on store in Turkiye they were super cheap. some of the games has been on sales for months like red dead redemption 2 ultimate edition has been around 150 Turkish liras for months. but today this editions price went up to 3499 liras. It is crazy:messenger_astonished: and some other games prices got update today :messenger_fearful:

What are the odds that the price of gamepass goes up before the price of Playstation hardware goes up in the US?

I think gamepass goes up first. I think PC gamepass goes up next because Nadalla was bragging about it. If he was doing that he thinks PC gamers really like it won't be able to drop it easy.

Gamepass PC in the US prices will go up soon. IMHO.

Trying to kill Xbox for good i guess.

Nintendo can afford these price hikes because they are in a league of their own.

Xbox can't because it is a brand in massive decline.

So how is MS going to increase GamePass subscribers, if they aren't trying to sell more hardware?

By releasing gamepass everywhere also or at least everywhere they can. To be clear that's what I think they believe. IMO I think it's been made clear by Matt P. for a long time that GP isn't growing and sub services in general aren't growing for gamign anyways.

Yup. It'll start with PC GP. Probably not a huge jump, I'd say $2-3 maybe. Ultimate will probably jump this fall when the $80 games hit.

The price of gamepass going up is likely to be in September. Right now they're riding a 15-25% price hike compared to last year and showing an 8% increase YoY, hiding a possible decline. That will end when they hit the previous price hike quarter so they will likely time it with that to show a positive YoY increase again.

This is normal for Microsoft anyway, they make their money from software and office sales etc, they buy and control things way too much to try and compete, then they don't support and produce the various projects they acquire properly, then they kill them after promising they won't all the time, they did it with the Zune, then Kinect after that the Windows Phone, now it looks like Xbox is getting the same treatment, MS get's bored with their hobbies and side projects eventually, they always have.

Should demand your country has currency redeemable in gold and silver, ditch the fiat junk.

$400 for the worst possible console is insane, lmao.

Fuck gaming altogether. All of these people have lost their damn minds. From PC gaming to console alikes. From the Devs to the publishers. All of 'em can eat my dick!

Look forward to next MS financial quarterly report showing an Xbox revenue steep decrease. Hardware worse than -10%, content and services also hit hard.

Where there's demand, there's price increases /s
Demand for Xbox Series X has never been all that great. Demand pretty much peaked in the first year. Its been a pretty mild console generation in terms for sales/demand for Microsoft.

The tariff isn't based off the retail price. Obviously. How could that possibly work, or even make sense. You'd be paying the government a duty partially based off of the retail sales margin, which is unfathomable.
Obviously. But the retail margin isn't going to be that huge. It's still hundreds of extra dollars.

They should sell the consoles with a "Tariff Edition" emblazoned controller at least. Give people something for their money.

If you think PC isn't going to be affected then you are fucking delusional lol

You already have brands just straight up not selling to the US, and there's no chance that component prices don't go up. This is on top of the MSRP of stuff like GPUs being impossible to actually buy at. Games going up means everywhere which also means that the precious grey market sites that people get their keys from will also raise prices.

This is basically guaranteed more than it already was. Game Pass was already not sustainable at the current price, but if game prices go up then Game Pass will as well.
I'm Brazilian and I live in Brazil. Here, it's already North Korea in terms of tariffs and I still don't understand why they're raising prices globally if it's the US that's raising tarrifs. Anyway. $80 for a game here is very expensive. Steam still has regionalized pricing, something that PSN doesn't do.
