Breaking: Xbox and Microsoft reveal global price increases for consoles, accessories — and even games

You must not have known, but everything is an Xbox! :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Yeah, so, technically these prices wont hurt anyone, we already have 3-4 Xbox's laying around lol:messenger_sunglasses:

At this point it's simply better to get a mid-range PC , it will last much longer and the games are much cheaper.
My 4060 laptop runs certain games much better than XBX/PS5.

Next gen consoles really are going to be $1,000. I guess I'll go PC eventually. As dumb as it is, I guess it doesn't matter when no one is buying your hardware anyways.

PC hardware prices have skyrocketed. You are not building a PC for $750 that is going to run games as well as the PS5 Pro.

GPUs are so expensive right now that consoles are still cheaper (maybe not in the long run, who knows)

Two of any of the consoles compared to PC?

I dunno man, it's a tough value proposition, especially now that software is much more ubiquitous.

I said multiple times that what Nintendo was doing with their Switch 2 pricing would overnight teach Xbox and PlayStation that they are undervaluing their products and allowing gamers to rip them off. Xbox heeded the lesson. It is only a matter of time before PlayStation follows suit.

Nintendo has led the charge to make gaming more expensive for everyone. This was an active and deliberate strategy on Nintendo's part to move the industry into a higher cost bracket overnight. Soon PlayStation will follow, along with the price of PC games and accessories.

Last week "there are literally 10s of millions of hours being played on Gamepassed" said the very happy liar.

This week "Increase prices!!!! We must follow Nintendo as we dont have the fucking balls to do it ourselves. By do it, I mean fuck over the customer even more by charging more for the same horseshit"

Fuck me I hate companies.

It is not that hard outside of Sony's predominantly asinine PC releases. Don't fall for the Nvidia "quality" trap and the PC build is affordable. The only question is do you enjoy tweaking settings to have the best experience. If not then a half assed console release might as well be the fallback.

Look forward to next MS financial quarterly report showing an Xbox revenue steep decrease. Hardware worse than -10%, content and services also hit hard.

Since it's reported based on revenue, xbox hardware percentages may not decrease that much on future quarterly reports.

Everything is getting out of hand in video game industry.

A generation where strange and unthinkable things happen, and they do so for the worse far more often than for the better.

Now with $80 games then we all know there is a possibility of a price increase this year for Gamepass too.

Its literally not possible even if we are talking multiplats. You are simply not getting PS5 Pro level performance out of a $750 PC starting from scratch.

It has nothing to do with Nintendo.

So are they using the tariff excuse or is the public like you?

Don't let these companies use that excuse to charge up ridiculous amounts. Ths is greed
I am not justifying anything, but the components they get to build these are sourced from everywhere and they have to offset costs of materials by making end consumers pay for it. This has been warned about since Trump first mentioned tariffs as a part of his platform last year.

Not those of us who have a Series X collecting dust that we have been meaning to sell for a while now.
Afraid I already pulled that trigger when I realized I could actually make a profit and cover 95% the cost of my Switch 2....but between Switch 2 and PS5 I'm sure I won't be missing out on too much.

Yeah, fuck this whole generation. As adamsapple adamsapple said, the fact that being an early adopter meant we got cheaper hardware, games, and accessories is beyond fucked. This industry is killing itself, and it kind of deserves to burn.

I subscribe to Game Pass, so Microsoft's software price increases won't impact me, but what - fuck everyone who doesn't want a subscription service? That's pretty bullshit. Fucking USD$80 for a video game? At some point, people are just gonna be done with AAA, not because they don't want to buy the games, but because they simply cannot afford them. I guess we should expect to see one or more Game Pass price increases in the next financial quarter, which means Sony will be jacking up PS+ prices again.

Pushes me closer and closer to going PC only...

Goalpost moving as usual. When they can't have the most powerful console, they can at least have the most expensive one. By thirty dollars!

My guess is that the SeriesX is just too expensive to produce (it has a lot more silicon than the PS5) and Microsoft are no longer willing to subsidise it.

In the old days they'd produce consoles at a loss and start to make a profit after the first one or two game sales, but XBox console gamers aren't buying games anymore, GamePass isn't doing great, and the current economical situation isn't helping no doubt.

It would also explain why they pulled the console from a few markets last year.

I think Sony also aren't subsidising the PS5 Pro, it's a niche product for hardcore console gamers, it has no console competition, and they're not interested in losing money with every sale, hence the high cost.

The tariffs effects supply chain which comes from all over the world. They are trying to cover costs they are going to have to oaston and recoup. How do you still not get this?
Bro. This is an opportunistic play. Stop falling for that talking point here.

They just announced record revenue yesterday and even admitted that they made cost cutting measures to boot.

Let it go.

Xbox is set to go third-party and get out of consoles just as console prices are going to get too high for the masses. Add to that, they offer Game Pass on other devices as an alternative to pay an outrageous price for a console. Microsoft being "forced" out of the console space is playing right into Microsoft's plans.

The next quarterly report will be comparing a period where they launched Oblivion as well as porting FH5 and Indy to PS5 to a period where they only launched Hellblade 2. I'd expect significant YoY increases. This hardware price increase will only be for 3 1/2 weeks in the next quarterly report.

Why not? 5060Ti 16GB is $420-500, add some 8C CPU (can be as low as $150 I guess?) and MB/RAM - and you get pretty much exactly what PS5Pro is.
You will have issues running games on console settings though as these are generally lower than people are willing to admit.

Time to start digging up the bangers the shills posted during the ABK saga.

First up is Jez Corden telling us Microsoft might reduce COD back to $60 if they get ABK. Somehow this aged worse than all of his other pieces put together rofl.

God damn, this is the first generation where being an early adopter is paying off in dividends.

Ridiculous that consoles are seeing price increases in their fifth year of operation, not decreases.

Those 145% tariffs are obviously a bitch on these things. Any word from Sony and Nintendo yet (I haven't been keeping up lately)?

Motherboards and system ram can add a ton of extra cost, not to mention a proper fast NVME SSD.

Does this have to do with Tariffs? I'm already seeing people on ResetEra blame that and Trump.

Yes, tariffs are a factor of course but not entirely. Granted, Resetera also had the topic in the sticky section for years about our consoles being made with forced labor camps, genocide.(on Uyghurs and others). They had been posting that corporations need to be pressured to stop doing this.(and I don't disagree). U.S. and some others did pass laws on this, but loopholes exist and enforcement is obviously challenging. Plus corporations of course will release PR promising they aren't doing so.(The giant corporations promise they use legit cheaply paid labor factories in other cities miles away and not the concentration camps!! )

Well, here ya go. Massive tariffs on that particular country will certainly put pressure on corporations to perhaps look elsewhere.(even if the motivation by the orange guy for doing tariffs had zero to do with the forced labor and Uyghurs plight). It will be very unpleasant price wise though for quite awhile.
