Callisto Protocol Revisted

The Callisto Protocol is an amazing game, but you need to master the combat to truly appreciate it. Many gamers think Callisto Protocol is too difficult and they often rage quit thinking the game is unfair. Some people also think the combat in this game is all about melee, but that's not exactly the case. If you only use melee attacks, the enemies will quickly overwhelm you. Personally I only used mele as a last resort

In Callisto Protocol, you need to think carefully before engaging in combat, looking out for traps and other potential advantages. The best weapon in the game is GRP (gravity gun) and for some strange reason many gamers dont use it. This weapon allows you to instantly kill enemies by throwing them into traps or off ledges. You can even grab one enemy and throw him into another giving you time to kill them both with weapons. Normal weapons when upgraded are deadly too. Also, while most people who use standard weapons aim for the head, it's actually better to aim for the knee. An enemy without a leg is very slow and can easily be finished off by stepping on them.

The Callisto Protocol is a fun game, but it also has amazing graphics. I haven't seen many games with such detailed graphics, not even in UE5 games that use nanite. I had a great time exploring the locations, which is all down to the impressive graphics. I'm planning to replay this game when my new QD-OLED 4K 240 Hz monitor is delivered (hopefully tomorrow). With true blacks instead of the grey of my old IPS LCD monitor, and with HDR instead of SDR, the immersion should be even better.

In Callisto Protocol, you need to think carefully before engaging in combat, looking out for traps and other potential advantages. The best weapon in the game is GRP (gravity gun). With this weapon alone, you can kill enemies instantly by throwing them into traps or the abyss. Normal weapons when upgraded are deadly too. I only use mele as a last resort or to finish off enemies on the ground. If you only use melee attacks, the enemies will quickly overwhelm you.

I saw a gamer who got so frustrated with this game that he quit because he wanted to fight all the enemies using melee. He didn't realise that he could grab enemies one by one using GRP (gravity gun) and throw them into the abyss. He could also grab one enemy and throw them at another enemy giving him time to finish them both. Also, while most people who use standard weapons aim for the head, it's actually better to aim for the knee. An enemy without a leg is very slow and can easily be finished off by stepping on them.

With true blacks instead of the grey of my old IPS LCD monitor, and with HDR, the immersion should be at a whole new level.

I realized quick that you should focus on upgrading the GRP to max before upgrading anything else. It will allow you to destroy almost anything. I was just launching enemies off ledges and into traps and spikes. Sometimes just throwing them hard enough into a wall would kill them instantly or to the point of near fatality.

Callisto Protocol was great. Very underrated and I would love a sequel. As usual terminally online gamers ruins everything with their constant whining and crying on internet forums.

It's not a bad game at all, particularly as a first effort from a new studio. What a shame that Striking Distance got severely downsized after this and will probably never have a chance at a proper sequel.

Better than the Dead Space Remake which added absolutely nothing besides a new coat of graphical paint.
Except a complete new skin layer gore system and a system that create random encounters that always change at every playtrhought, final upgrades for weapons, new and much better zero g sections and some other shit.

People would hava picked their pitchforks if they changed more than that, and that was already too much for some.

You hit the nail on the head OP, shame it took you that long.
And you also have to give the team credit for the Pro Patch.
Multi Modes, all solid and even with a 6k Raytraying mode..with no cut backs

One of the few games I dropped this gen.
Nice visuals but the gameplay was just awful IMO. Playing through the Dead Space remake recently just reinforced how awful the combat in this one is.

Horror fans dropped the ball that year.

Seems we won't ever get Callisto Protocol 2 or Dead Space 2 Remake.

Both games are great and deserve a sequel.
I still think that Dead Space Remake sold way better than Callisto, but EA had unrealistic expectations. Plus it wasn't easy to convince people since it was the kind of game that at first glance looked very similar to the original. You had to start playing it to notice the differences, especially the greatly improved system of revisiting old locations.

I played this game when it came to PS+ and found it quite good.
I also found it strange how the remake of Dead Space scored so much better, in fact as good as the original Dead Space.
Especially when TCP scored so low. But what do I know.

I remember a specific moment where you are walking on a small catwalk/bridge thing across a huge drop. When you are about halfway across, a large enemy drops down in front of you.

You can just use the GRP and throw his ass off like he's Mace Windu. Hilarious.

Did they ever patch it so the game has less shimmy sections?

I swear there was far more on launch. It never felt overly done this second play through.

You can't really patch that out, funny thing about that is I returned to Ragnarok after playing Callisto and that stood out more then Callisto...
Go figure

Game had a good foundation, a sequel and enough time to work on it would have been amazing.

Scoville had to ship a game that was not finished because money...

There's a part where you're on a moving platform and get attacked by waves of enemies before facing off against the 2 head boss.

It's supposed to be like OH SHIT OH SHIT as you struggle to survive and can't even catch a breath. With the GRP I just launched each wave off the side and walked around for 2 minutes in silence waiting for the next batch of enemies.

Like Atomic Heart i just couldn't get into it and ditched it at the 2-3 hour mark.

Paid full price for both.
I didn't pay anywhere near full price for either but yeah, dropped both after like 5 hours. They just didn't click.

I did go through Dead Space Remake and even though I probably like original game better, it was still quite good.

So good it revived the IP!

Nice goalpost moving buddy, Survival horror is a tought genre to sell if your name is not resident evil, the remake was great except maybe isaaac talking and the graphic could have been better.

It doesn't change the fact that they added enough shit in the game, the opposite of what you said.

It didn't really need to exist considering the original game has aged well compared to a lot of games at the time. I played it for free with PS+ and I'm glad I did.

It was a nice gift for people who wanted to replay the game with modern graphic that can add to the atmosphere.
As a gore/horror sucker i also enjoyed their new gore system and dynamic scare system.

If this was superfluos, than 99% of inferior remakes are superfluos.

I was so fucking excited for DD2... even more than I was for Elden Ring. It actually soured me on Capcom.
Before the announcement of the game, of all the sequels that could've been announced, THIS WAS IT. So i don't have to tell you how excited i was for the game as well. Very rarely do i see such flaccid release, like god damn. It's so bad that i don't want another DD title unless it's made by a completely different team, because the one that made DD2, doesn't understand what Dragon's Dogma is supposed to be. Losing trust in Capcom delivering the goods.

It's very likely that the franchise is dead now, since Itsuno also left Capcom. Kinda sad that it ended on a whimper.

That's what i thought myself, but from what i am hearing Dark Arisen wasn't made by Itsuno, and the dlc was arguably better than the original game. It might very well the Itsuno that didn't have a vision on how to evolve the sequel, and we got what we got.

I hope you're right. I mean, if they can keep Pragmata going, surely there's some money left for Dragon's Dogma. I dunno if they can really salvage DD2 with a "Dark Arisen style" DLC, though.

I always liked more than the Dead Space Remake, first game that I bought separately the DLC.
I really like Dead Space but honestly, is there a more overrated game than Dead Space? The way some people talk it, it's like it is the 2nd coming of christ for horror games! It isn't even remotely scary (jump "scares" are not scary) nor is it that great of an action game like Resident Evil 4 was.

In terms Of The Callisto Protocol, I really enjoyed it. It was a solid horror experience and probably a 7.5 out of 10 when I completed it at launch. I didn't regret my purchase at all and couldn't understand the hate it got, especially as I don't revere Dead Space like so many others do.

Played it on ps plus and hated it. I dropped it fast though and seeing all the fans here i wonder if I might try it again.

I had booted up my ps3 and beat dead space 1 a few months before and thought calisto was severely lacking compared to it.

I'll be first to admit I was way too harsh on this game on launch, and more so on my overall rating of what I played.

All of its core issues are minor and fixable with a sequel. One which we will never get. I think as a third person survival horror fan, and any other fans out there of the genre, we kind of fucked ourselves by being overly negative on this one.
Honestly I am finding this a huge problem in the gaming space these days. Everyone is just a hater. There were so many seriously flawed games in the ps1 and ps2 era that people look back on fondly that would just be annihilated in the current era of toxic discourse.

Some games deserve to get savaged like the new Dragon age but it's almost everything now it feels like. It's actually a little bit depressing.

I have been a glass half empty toxic mother fucker towards games for too long now.

It started souring my enjoyment of games. To the point where I picked up KCD2, flushed it, then on a whim revisited it and then played it for 120 hours.

Callisto completed on launch, bashed it, but my replay now was a blast start to finish.

I'm the problem is what I'm finding.

The only thing that changed this year is I played Animal well, and then became self aware when a buddy of mine called me out when I was dunking a game that had not released yet he was excited for.

Like why am I being the meme of "stop having fun!" Plus, last year I was totally ready to ditch the hobby altogether.

Now I can't even keep up with my current games I'm playing, and have more things I want to play day one than I think ever before. To the point I can't keep up.

It all started with Animal Well. That game saved gaming for me.

Edit: I wanted to add this place is absolutely problematic to enjoying the hobby. We just had several days with hundreds of new games shown and you have people on here stating there is nothing good from any of the shows.

At that point you need to self reflect and realize gaming isn't for you in the slightest. At least not talking about it on an enthusiasts message board. Some years have slow output depending on tastes.., but 0 games? Come on.
