Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

You guys were right - the Pro Controller 2 feels SO GOOD to play with. Super smooth, comfy, and great build quality.
I feel like Nintendo's QA and build quality is a level above Sony this gen. I see why they charge more for it.

I'm using the aux port in the controller to send the audio to my speakers since my system is docked but my monitor doesn't have built in speakers. Works great.

Also, I wanted the Splatoon NSO icons but I see that you need a PAID online membership for it and they won't let you have just the free trial to get them. Sigh. Haven't I given you enough money Nintendo?

I've done the battery recalibration thing where you drain it from 100% to 0% twice, so we'll see if that helps the battery a little bit. But I've been getting around 2 and a half hours to 3 hours of battery life when playing Mario Kart World heavily, and with maximum screen brightness. When you mix it up with different games, you can get around 4 hours or so.

I guess it doesn't matter with me because I'm going to have it docked up 95% of the time. If you're going to play it straight handheld, I suggest getting a 20,000mAh portable charger.
Come on man, brightness at 75% - 2.5/3 hours at full brightness really doesn't sound bad.

2hrs of battery life is good for that performance. Switch OLED had great battery life because it was running last gen games on ultra-low settings and low resolution.

I noted this elsewhere but I really don't understand the battery life complaints. It holds battery better than my Steam Deck OLED does and comparable to Gen 1 Switch from 2017.

Exactly I'm lucky to get 2hrs Mario kart and that with just less then 50% brightness and auto brightness turned off , 2.5-3hr battery life is what I'd expect to be good on switch 2

I did originally say it had a terrible battery life, but I now think it isn't too bad when you consider other options after testing it out.

If I do go handheld, I'm not going to let it drop below 20%, and I won't let it go above 90% from now on... so the battery life can last longer. But as I said, mine is mostly in the dock, so I won't worry about the battery life in any case.

Okay Switchers, I need some advice / help.

In regards to a game like big brain academy, I transferred my Nintendo account to the switch too so it has my saves but all of the information on that game is based on your profiles on the console and we don't want to transfer all the profiles on the console because we want to keep those profiles and the save games on the original switch. Is there a way to get the data over to the new Switch without transferring the profiles or are we just stuck in situations like this?

I think you can just add the other profiles manually on the new Switch, then you can transfer the saves you want from one console to the other (I don't know if it's a copy or move though).
You don't need to transfer all the saves and profiles, in the save management you can pick what to transfer to another console.

But then when we are competing in the future, we have to choose one Switch to keep using exclusively and can't go back and forth, right, since only my account syncs?

Is only your profile with a Switch Online subscription ?
I'm using a family plan so all the profiles on my console benefit from it.
I did a system transfer when initializing my Switch 2, all the profiles were copied to it, as well as most saves, some saves where moved (Animal Crossing and some Pokémon games), but everything else is still on the original Switch as well.
Saves are synched thanks to Nintendo Online, but if transferring manually a single save works in one way, you can also transfer back the new one to the other Switch if needed.

why not transfer all profiles?

it doesn't erase the ones on the original Switch in case you didn't know. at least when you do the system transfer.

Because then I can't play games with the existing save files on the original Switch also - it removes them as they only exist in one place at a time unless you're a paid account. It kind of sucks as best I understand it. I want to be able to use both Switch 2 and Switch at will.

Yes, my account is the only paid account - hers is just a normal Nintendo account. It would be another 30 dollars for just the save sync effectively for me to get it.

Oh if you did the system transfer it keeps them all in place on the original Switch too.

And given you can link each account to 2 systems together you can have all the accounts on both systems.

I guess I don't know enough if you have to have NSO or not. I didn't think you did but ...

My Samsung microSD express card from Target has been in shipping label created status since Friday. Target just gave me a refund and I can keep it if it arrives. It will be nice to have another card for free if it does end up coming.

I really hope they release a themed pro controller. I still have my Splatoon one and I love it

Also I've been reading lots of praise about the new pro controller. Tell me gaf, how is it?

anyone else surprised by the lack of third party game upgrades?

I can see Fortnite had a day one version for the console. I was really hoping Rocket League and Apex would too. Same for stuff like Overwatch.

Fucking fantastic.

Four back buttons would have been nice though. And of course hall effect joysticks and analogue triggers.

After getting Mario Kart and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S, now I've bought Bravely Default.

Which... fun fact - the international release of the game is still censored. I have no interest in relitigating whether or not they should have censored the game in the first place, but if you want the uncensored version, you can very easily buy the Japanese version off the eshop, which has all of the unedited content and has English audio and/or subtitles as an option.

I was always annoyed they did that back in the day.

Really enjoying my time with Fantasy Life on Switch 2. Crisp image, 60fps. Having more games with higher framerates is super exciting. I'll be playing a ton of games on this over the next few years.

14:30 in video for input lag test

Seems no difference in input lag from switch 1. I'd heard claims that there was an improvement, anyone know of a source with tests that found an improvement, and it so in which games and with what setup?

What if it's 4ms better?

What if it's 4ms better?

As I understand it there's a system level problem with the switch that results in (I think) exactly one extra frame of lag, though often the results are in practice 2 or 3 frames more than on other consoles (there are best case scenarios where the difference is just 1 frame). So this means that problem hasn't been addressed.

I'm sure this has already been discussed, but I'm just noticing it myself. I had heard that the only third party games with the games on the cart were Cyberpunk 2077, and Rune Factory... I know Rune Factory is one of those games that works on a Switch 1 also. Um...is it just the Switch 1 version on the cart? Just noticed my data size for that game is 12gb. I mean, that's a heavy patch if it the game is supposedly on the cart.

It is great. Agree with Tams Tams that four back buttons would have been great, but the controller feels really good in the hand. The build is really tight. A little slick on the surface. Could have used some texture. That's a minor complaint though. I really like it.

So many games I want to buy that I missed on Switch 1:
Zelda ttok
Mario Wonder
Xenoblade 3
Fire Emblem Engage
Metroid Remaster
Super Mario Rpg
Super Mario 3d world
Zelda Echoes
Zelda Link

Well I'm fucked

MarkMSX is more than a little bit of a twat, but he's a pretty good source for nerdy shit like this. I'm not surprised there's no improvement over the Switch 1 for BC. But this test is also kind of... well, shit, because unless it was in a different section, he didn't even test a Switch 2 game.

Subjectively, Mario Kart World and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S both felt snappy - moreso than I remember games being on the original Switch. Even the home menu felt considerably more responsive than I remember it being on the Switch 1. Then, when I flipped over to Mario 3D World on the Switch 2, it felt super sluggish even with the S2 patch installed. So it's entirely possible that S2 games are better optimized in this regard. That's why I'm curious whether BOTW and TOTK, as paid upgrades, are considered "native" S2 games, or if they still appear as a Switch 1 title like Mario 3D World and the other games with free patches do. The paid upgrades might also bring an input lag advantage with them. But, as I said - all subjective. I'm totally fine with how the S2's input lag has felt on native games so far, and I say this as someone used to playing arcade stuff/old school stuff that's much more responsive than modern gaming.

Soon the four back buttons will become standard

Switch 1 version of the cart will download Switch 2 edition . 12GB size is switch 2 edition

I was surprised how good everything feels until I watched a teardown video.

The controller is like 4 parts put together for bracing and every single hole for the buttons is lined with silicone. The sticks are so smooth because they have silicone lined stick gates preventing them from ever hitting the edges.

I still don't like that it's $85 but after seeing the teardown video I'm not surprised. They put a lot of work into this controller and it shows.

Here's the video I watched if anybody wants to see what I'm talking about.

Anyone else currently seeing slow download speeds on their switch 2 with WiFi? Toggling ipv6 makes no difference. Not sure if the Nintendo servers are getting hammered or if they'll patch it with a software update…

Same and they are all expensive as fuck too, any other system you dive into last gen games you can get like 10 games for 100 bucks.

controller has the bare minimum and is its more expensive than a 8bitdo ultimate 2 that has better features, comes with a base its $25 cheaper and is compatible with SW2, what lot of work ????

I'm personally happy with my Switch 2 pro controller and I also heard controller like 8bitdo can't turn on the the system, I'm not all interested of getting it.

I kind of took a break from switch since totk - didn't put much time into it. Had a bunch of ps5 games and steam deck stuff.
Totk is incredible on switch 2. Feels amazing, like the way it always should have. Now I'm going back and going at so many incredible games I missed in the last stretch.

Don't forget thousand year door if you're putting Mario rpg remake on there.

That's really not what I feel we were led to believe. That sucks. That's no better than a game key card if you're looking for the Switch 2 version only.
it seem like a bug for that game . It auto download Switch 2 edition for some unknow reason . Other game dont have this issue .

Anyway , if this real XC uprgade this Winter . Possible fake post on twitter because i cant find it on website

Oh my God, I cannot wait. I was worried they were skipping the others since the XC3 patch is out or due out soon (can't remember which).

But it seemed like such a waste to launch XCX and then just strand it on the Switch 1. And Xenoblade 2 NEEDED the boost. And Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive is such a good game that it'd be just downright unfair to skip it.

That is going to be amazing.

Good news for Xeno, but a bit disappointed it's not sooner for X in particular. When the game launched they would have already had final switch 2 hardware, so they could have had a patch ready for launch. Was hoping to play X this summer, but will wait.

Well charged my switch 2 up to 100% last night then turned the switch full off then just turned it on now and 93% so god knows how it can use 7% overnight when the thing is turned off not in standby

It's charging the battery gently to extend its life.
