Xbox has announced a multi-year agreement with AMD to co-engineer new silicon chips for the next-generation of Xbox consoles

These new gen probably will come with 2tb pcie 5.0 storage. I just hope MS put an extra slot and I can use any pcie 5.0 m2 ssd.

My Prediction

CPU AMD Zen 6, 12 cores, 4.5 GHz
GPU RDNA 5-based, ~24 TFLOPS
RAM 32 GB GDDR7 800+ GB/s bandwidth
Storage 2 TB NVMe Gen 5 SSD
AI Acceleration Custom AMD AI/NPU core (Ryzen AI / XDNA 2)
Ray Tracing Full hardware RT, Global Illumination, Path Tracing
Resolution Native 4K @ 60–120Hz
Cooling Advanced vapor chamber + smart fan control
Form Factor Design based on NASA's National Transonic Facility
Backwards Compatibility Full support for Xbox One / Series X/S
Cloud Integration Built-in xCloud streaming chip
VR/AR Compatibility with existing VR headsets (Rift, HTC Vive etc).

They'll probably call it Xbox Gen5, just to finally stop overthinking the naming game.

Release with 24 tflops is better to not even come out. only if u talking about series s, 24 tflops in 2027 will be really weak. I expect the $1000 model to have 50 real tflops. a 10070 xt or 10080 xt udna gpu.

The people at Xbox always thought they were the smartest people in the industry and felt they were always one step ahead and this may be the Xbot talking in me but they may actually be onto something THIS time

I 100% trust they will shoot themselves in the foot though.

I bet money it launches next year, one sku anyhow just to hit that 25th anniversary
To be based on UDNA + Zen6 it needs to target 2027 at earliest, or will be a crap weak zen5 + 9070 xt custom, what is not enough for a next gen.

I think a lot of people will end up disappointed with what the console turns out to be

I think there is a high chance of this all around.

If they target a price of like 799 and its only a little more powerful than a ps5 pro, purely a console. I think there will be those that hoped they did target 999 or even more maybe. Hoping for something really beastly and MORE next gen.

Then, I think there will be many what hoped for custom pcs by Asus/ gigabyte and MSI etc.

So i think they are setting themselves up for potential dissapointment and they need a home run not a limp " this works for a certain customer that we feel we can cater a rich experience with breakthrough game play ...blah..blah.." marketing vomit.

You shouldn't expect the price to performance benefit that traditional consoles have when they are no longer subsidising the hardware.

If we relate it to this gen BOM for series S was $500 which was sold $300. This next gen the equivalent would be price at at least $600 to give 20% margin for the hardware maker for that low spec console probably more.

I understand your reaction, it's annoying to see people whose contribution to the forum is reduced to giving laughing and mocking emojis to everything that doesn't sound "PlayStation is the best and Xbox is the worst" shamelessly accuse others of being almost insane without their own criteria and corporate shil for not being blue soldiers and without fear of being sanctioned by moderation...
But then it's more beneficial to think about who the character in question is and you'll realize that it's better to ignore it and laugh at how ridiculous there are people in the world.🤷😉

If they want to focus on: the cloud, ecosystem, play anywhere and not tied to anything, then besides Wifi they really have to focus on:

1) 5G/6G Cellular connection as SOC. or part of x86 architecture as a STANDARD for handheld mobile devices, laptops, tablets, foldables
2) making games run NATIVLEY on ARM and X86 at same time (development process), not no bullshit emulation for newer games
3) Booting up games to cartridge like speed with a simple UI (DirectX API)
4) Built in Cameras on these devices that are not shit quality for content creators
5) External UHD-Blu Ray drive that can play all physical xbox games that are on DVD, Blu-Ray, Ultra-Blu Ray disks for backwards compatibility on devices for homes

Their vision is a good start for gaming to be ubiquitous, but there are several gaps and hurdles that need to be addressed.

Why native 4K when you can use fsr4 and manufacture a smaller and cheaper die?

Keep in mind Sarah Bond has confirmed it's running Windows Core in the OP. How they get around the conundrum Kepler has presented is anyone's guess.

My guess is how open the OS is and the level of emulation needed to run games in BC defined what's a console and not.

A console has no legal issues running PC games tho.

Also these Xbox APUs will be used by OEMs too to fill the gaps left by AMD. Lisa Su confirms this.

I'm thinking it will be a cloud solution (loophole) that imitates the environment of console for BC usage. That way it can be argued it's still running in console mode despite running out of a PC.

Some people that have been around here quite a while reading GAF were warned this stuff was happening, but most made fun of that info

You also still see the "it's just a sticker on a PC" posts at least once a page, despite them specifically saying they're developing new silicon in the video, let alone posts from kepler or yourself. 🤷‍♂️

Imma just spill it.

Xbox consoles will be Xbox designed APUs for both handhelds and consoles that can run Xbox BC due to silicon support. The OS itself, which is already mostly Windows, can run Windows games with the right packages / extensions loaded.

These APUs will be sold to OEMs at cost for them to use in place of the discontinued AMD gaming APUs.

OEMs will add their own custom software, and also increase clocks, unlock disabled compute units, use more / faster memory, more and faster SSD, bigger battery, better cooling, better displays (OLED). This so they can sell at a higher premium.

Lisa Su's video said as much.

So awesome! I'm still the biggest Commodore fanboy, there is no before or after. Still have an Amiga 1200 on the same desk as my main gaming PC 👌

Man my brothers Amiga was so futuristic, and copied floppies, so many amazing games. Oh and wiggle the joystick porn who can forget that!!

To be fair, there is still a hell of a lot that can be misinterpreted in that video. Folks can believe or not believe Kepler or Heisenberg if they want, but at the very least we are getting a deeper perspective on this stuff than other places seem to get. So when I see a video entitled "The Next Gen Xbox is a Gaming PC" then, to me, that's not too far off from simply saying "it's just a sticker on a PC". Honestly, it feels like MS is playing PR games with all of this. They just want folks talking about Xbox. It's working, but it is still just PR games.

Streaming?
That would be awful. Nobody wants that.

My guesses:
1. Emulated Xbox on a Windows device.
2. Windows virtual machine on Xbox.
3. (bonus) Dual boot, Windows or XboxOS.

Whatever they do, the open nature of it all when saying not locked to a single store or tied to one device is such an awesome thing. I hope they can pull it off, should be great for everyone.

2. Is probably the closest. It's weird because Xbox has 3 VMs already and they're all based on Windows 8.

Its either Xbox OS loading up the Windows VM or Windows using an enlightened hypervisor that loads up the current Xbox title VM.

We're splitting hairs because the key to this is HW based BC on the silicon itself.

Wouldn't supporting Steam on a home console hurt Microsoft's revenues and its own store? I think a traditional console would make more sense for profitability, leaving the Steam, etc to the Xbox Ally or to some third‑party "Xbox PC".

I still believe we'll have a traditional console alongside all those devices

Fuck you you motherfucker you.
The only corporate loving balloon I see is you. I couldn't give a fuck what console I have, past few years I'm Xbox, before that was Playstation, before that Sega and before that Nintendo and Before that Commodore and before that Amstrad.

YOUR a fanboy rat. I am allowed a choice no? Did Phil fuck your mom? Why can't I have an Xbox without being a crazy fanboy?

Momma insults now huh, what's wrong with you? Do you not have a mother, you idiotic corporate boot lickers. Keep it up with your meltdown, it's hilarious.

1. They won't sell the consoles at a big loss like the S/X.
2. Extra sources of income from games going third party.
3. There will be some new adopters, primarily from PC, that will sub to Gamepass because it'll be the only and default gaming subscription on the console outside of Geforce now.

Not really, PC folks aren't going to jump over to this console. They aren't going to limit themselves when they can just upgrade their PC if needed.

I think so too. And I wonder how an APU is going to run a native PC game satisfactorily when it often doesn't even run well on high‑end dedicated GPUs.

From my point of view there's 2 possible outcomes.

1. It comes with an option to ignore Gamepass completly.
2. It's dead to me.

I didn't insult anyone's momma, I just asked a question.

Clearly hit a nerve there though so I'm sorry you walked in on it.

I said some.

It wil also be the only option for PC gamers that will want the latest PC handheld / laptop with gaming APU outside of SteamOs devices.

The PC gamers that buy PCs with discrete GPUs will stick with that. This isn't going to be for them.

Everyone else in the PC gaming space will need to pick between Xboxes or SteamOs.

I just hope they'll just release super lightweight "Windows Xbox/Gaming Edition" that's super optimized for gaming with basic brower/media player and notepad... that starts on big picture mode.
That I can fully support.

So from 80 million to 56 million to 35 million to 6 million.

The future sure seems bright.
Jez's career depends on Xbox console/platform staying relevant, he needs some hope lol.

Too bad Xbox consolea sale are so abysmal, when this thing comes out it will sell as well as the OG Xbox.
