PlayStation 5 getting price increases in America starting tomorrow Aug 21

Sony already mentioned that they are moving away from China, and in a few months we shall see that price will stabilize possibly next year. It is even possible for price cut this coming Christmas season.

Once all companies have move away from China towards other countries with lesser tariffs, and more factories are build in USA, the supply and price will stabilize, due to better negotiations with the government, which will receive more tax incentives, and easier source of raw materials. It will be better in the long run.
Do you still believe in Santa Claus?

The bottom line, even with or without tariffs, inflation is inevitable or unstoppable. That is economics.
At least now , despite of what is happening, there are big gains, not stagnant, and not abused, unlike in the past woke and dei infested previous administration, were jobs are lost because of to much outsourcing, intellectual property rights are stolen and spying worsen, and worse despite of staying in the status quo with WTO, the prices still goes up.

It is much better today and everything will get better and stabilize in the long run. 50 Dollars is just 1 or 2 or 3 days wages, compared to many gains in the economy, and more food in the table and more jobs created, and this price instability will just be temporary as companies adjust to transferring there factories away from China. Price will stabilize.

Just move on.

I think they are still in but will be curious to see what happens if like
I mean, we're getting the "xbox pc" ie. The 3do that runs Windows.
Now we can keep arguing semantics but as the saying goes, when it walks like a pc, talks like a pc and is priced like a pc... welp

I'm also not convinced that we'll ever get back compat beyond x1 on said PCs, but hey I welcome to be proven wrong.

what does that do to the console launches
I'm tempted on a modem/hat eating bet that we'll never see another hw launch from MS that could call itself that(in terms of scale and marketing reach etc) regardless of what the device(s) actually end up looking like.

There are no and have never been import tariffs on vg consoles:

Are you sure about that, totally nonbiased third party observer who knows how to use Google?

For the purposes of heading 9903.01.24, products of China and Hong Kong entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after 12:01 a.m., eastern standard time on March 4, 2025, other than products described in heading 9903.01.21, heading 9903.01.22, heading 9903.01.23, and other than products for personal use included in accompanied baggage of persons arriving in the United States, shall be subject to an additional 20% ad valorem rate of duty.

People are going to believe what they want to believe and I am no longer trying to convince people otherwise because some are being intentionally obtuse

Someone will eventually be proven right, time will tell (and honestly I wouldn't be shocked who is proven right in the end) but I know where my flag is planted

This is because Sony saw the PS6 leaks that said it would launch for less than the PS5 Pro while being 3x more powerful. So they had to raise the prices to make that happen for you.

I thought Sony said they were able to make the US PS5s outside of tariffed regions? Or are those now tariffed too?

It's also economics that companies pass on taxes to the consumer. Just saying that inflation is a fact of life and is unstoppable is missing the point. Inflation does naturally increase in most "healthy" economies. The problem is with shortsighted political policies that increase inflation more than necessary that cause economic instability and market uncertainty, which disproportionately affect the lower and middle class.

At least now , despite of what is happening, there are big gains

There are? Inflation hasn't gone down. Neither has unemployment. It's lowest point in the last 5 years was 3.4% in Spring of 2023. It's 4.2% now.

Because that extra cost that their products now cost them, wasn't created by some inefficiency on their side or some market purpose. It was artificially created by a politician and they have no reason to help a politician out if it's not in their best interest. Plus the extra 20-30% could go away over night with a snap of the fingers.

But that's what the forums are all about😅
Not that I don't sympathise. But really I don't have much of a horse in the race, I argued MS should have made series S into a handheld back when Series S was still just a rumor(and clearly i was right and they were wrong, look how the gen turned out), but i really do think console as a closed box hw is over and done with for MS.

Speculating about exact form that will take is still fun though.

And for those saying they had to do it;

The most profitable generation ever. They've been profitable right from the start of the gen, never happened with any other generation. They had to have been making a profit from the hardware right from the start unlike every other gen.

Multibillion/trillion dollar companies convincing fans they had to do it...

How do you think they stay profitable? What do you think is going to happen to the executive who suggests that they eat the tariffs themselves and immediately show a -20% cut in profits on their balance sheets? They'd throw him out the nearest window.

But I am in a different position as I know what their plans were at one point very recently and their video along with the AMD video confirmed some of what I have been saying for a long time now

Granted things may change tonight and MS say they are killing the Xbox brand all together and it would not overly shock me

But again I know where I would put my money on if there is another Xbox first party console coming or not

Pro console, 750 bucks
disc drive, 90 dollars
stand (LOL)-30 bucks
880 dollars.
You just got BF6, now you need PS plus to play online....that's 80 bucks a year for the basic tier, you rock this PS5 pro to at least 5 years. Thats 1200 dollars. add in a broken controller, because you aint getting TMR sticks. That's another 80 bucks. 1300 dollars. If you get the premium tier, thats about 180 a year. Or 1700 dollars. That's solid 1440p PC money. ATP, anyone shilling how much cheaper console is, is dumb. Consoles only exist ATP for people who want "couch comfort" and dads. also, the shocking number of IT workers. Who just "wanna come home and press a button".
Yes you absolutely must buy a stand apparently. It's a necessity of course when you're trying to inflate a price. Meanwhile your favourite console sold wifi separately, a HDDVD drive separately, a HDD separately, introduced mandatory yearly online fees with no included games and the entire console went kaput on you, yet you don its name today as your favourite thing ever.

Hmmmm. Just say it, what have you heard!! Lol

Personally, I'm guessing the guy at the top is boiling the frog with Xbox management on this. I absolutely want them to stay in console because Sony will juice us worse than ever without a high end alternative. I just see those everything is an Xbox ads and can't stop thinking it's just 4 games.

This is the worst thing I've read today, and that's saying something.

I was there for like a minute and realized it wasn't the place for me

If you are a hardcore PS fan in almost like a cult like status than it's the place for you

I shunned that forum thus they labeled me an Xbot
Yup, I hate cultlike fanboy behaviour as well. They think you despise the company just because you have a critical mind 😔

That wouldn't happen as I don't believe they're getting a 20% tariff on the PS5s imported in to the US. I also don't believe they're losing money on the hardware they sell and their earnings back that up.

Ah but you forgot.
PC comes with candles.
That's 3600$/month, so that PC of yours, so about 220k for a 5 year PC. You could get an extra house with that console for the same money.

In terms of the tariff, we are not just simply calculating the simple tariff to come up with ¥100 billion but thinking about the currently available information and also looking at the market trend, we may pass on to the price and also shipment allocation. So we are taking a different measures in managing to come up to the ¥100 billion impact.

That 100 billion yen impacts just don't show up out of nowhere. Many PS5s are still made in China. We're still paying extra import taxes on goods made in China.

No need to go back three generations to make a point. Just talk about the propriety NVME memory cards.

Yep. All about pricing strategy. Everything changes when there is a lack of competition. Folks can disagree but I firmly believe the end of the console war has as big a part to play here as anything else going on in the world.
So the Switch 2 and PC aren't competition?

Not doubting your info but with MS I will believe it when I see on shelves. Remember that Xbox streaming puck that was just around the corner?

MS is a business at the end of the day. The higher ups aren't going to ignore market realities. Hardly anyone has been buying the series X. No reason a series X 2 wouldn't sell even worse. Console software sales have collapsed even more than hardware. So what's the business justification for spending the significant resources making a new console?

Oh I've been aware of certain plans before too(though not completely recently) but with MS I've seen plenty of last minute pilots, they aren't particular about holding firm.
Hell even with Series X they literally gave us(developers) different specs less than 12 months out from launch, only to change them 4 months later.

Tbh i don't expect brand to be killed anytime soon. If that ever comes to pass I would see Blizzard and Bethesda studio closures before brand.

But again I know where I would put my money on if there is another Xbox first party console coming or not
How much money are we talking about?

First console generation in my entire 48 years where the console prices got MORE expensive as the generation progressed.

Tariffs seem like a convenient excuse because if it were truly tariffs they wouldn't have raised prices significantly elsewhere. Let's not forget Sony raised the prices of PS5's in Canada, Mexico, Europe, the U.K., Australia, Japan, and China back in 2022, long before the threat of tariffs existed. They raised the price in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand a SECOND time this last April, before tariffs had any meaningful impact.

Tariffs are a scapegoat. As it is with both Nintendo and Microsoft, this is greed and seeing how far they can push the envelope before consumers push back.
Only one with a brain in here.
