Article:
A host of former Polygon staffers have established a new independent video game outlet called Rogue. The seven founding members have reunited after new Polygon owner Valnet made a number of layoffs when acquiring the website from Vox Media in May.

They explained Rogue will strive to help readers find games that resonate with them on a personal level and spotlight both triple-A and indie titles. It will also work to "humanize developers and their process while holding studios accountable for their actions [and] create content that is made by humans, for humans, without catering to algorithms."

Hopefully they make a cool documentary on the process of some really masculine dudes making a sick website like they did with Polygon

They will probably need a different sponsor though:

So they recreated their old group so they can do the same bullcrap and bankrupt for the same reasons as before.

That is ONE subtle logo.

The logo typography kind of looks like a penis. Who can we cancel -- er, I mean, "hold accountable" -- for this?

4 co founders, all of them white, only one "they/them" among them.
Might as well have called it thirdreichgames.com with this lack of diversity.

My idle site is talking about what's in the games contextually like what we saw in old magazines without going deep technical, like DF should've never been needed or existed from the first place. The idle world is that we don't need Digital Foundry and everything is okay.

I hope they hired that clown who didn't know what to do with a controller in that infamous Doom video. I'd seriously watch every preview with this dude at the steering wheel and some Benny Hill music.

What the hell is that logo

Double down on a fucking gaming website when YouTubers have been eating your lunch for over a decade?

Bold strategy cotton…..

Some people are just incapable of learning it would seem. The use of "humans" instead of "people" sounds just like the usual Polygon approach, though. Out of touch and stiff.

They should have called it "rainbow" or "LGBTQIA+" which would be pretty on brand for ex polygon journalists.

Some choice quotes from their "About" section:

"Rogue is worker-owned and independent"
"we still need to pay our bills in this economy defined by late-stage capitalism"
"We are fearlessly inclusive, and that means we will never tolerate bigotry, hate, or exclusion"
"trans rights are human rights, no human is illegal, billionaires should not exist, and fascism is bad"

Essentially nothing in there about games.

EDIT: I'm going to dig into some of these quotes, because I hate myself, I guess.

"Rogue is worker-owned and independent"

So was PewDiePie, and the legacy press (Polygon included) constantly pretended this made him less legitimate than the "real" media.

"we still need to pay our bills in this economy defined by late-stage capitalism"

Capitalism is WHY you can make a living from games. Just once, I'd like to see these people put forth some of their favorite socialist video games. Offhand, I can mostly think of America's Army, which was funded by our government in an attempt to coerce children into signing up for the army.

"We are fearlessly inclusive, and that means we will never tolerate bigotry, hate, or exclusion"

I always love the immediate "we're inclusive, so this is why everyone who disagrees with us should die in a fire." There's nothing "fearless" about pandering to the same pre-approved groups as everyone else in the space.

"trans rights are human rights, no human is illegal, billionaires should not exist, and fascism is bad"

Stunning and brave.

I'm not sure I can get on board with this site until I know their stances on Palestinian statehood and defunding the police. Both very important for any gaming site.

They didn't mention either of those. I think that makes them alt-right.

I am in support of this as it means when after all the fake pandering support dies off, like it normally does, they will lose even more money and hurt whatever blank page CV they have, that will then hopefully prevent them from working in gaming or media again. Your opinion is not journalism, it's a social media post no one asked for.

Can already imagine the statement they'll make about how the bigots and haters won and they are again the victims and definitely not morons that are terrible at their jobs who need cleaned out of gaming and media. Be nice to see the day they realise how insignificant they truly are.

One of these days Sony's going to move PSN to a 2hr return policy.
Nobody wants to research sub-$100 video game purchases when they can buy them risk free.
The bottom's going to drop out of game news and game review sites.

When virtue signaling is their motto, expect a short lifespan of the site.
