Tencent punches back at Horizon Zero Dawn lawsuit, says game isn't that unique - Aloy isn't central to brand

If you check my post history, i'm the last person batting for Sony, but fuck me if that isn't blatant copying. Holly crap.

Why the fuck are they talking about aloy when the dinobots are clearly the culprit here?
Well if that's the case... zoids.

I agree that the game isn't that unique. In fact I couldn't bring myself to play it, too boring.

So Tencent: why copying it? xD
Maybe Tencent knows there's a market for a game just like this but with an actual appealing protagonist and gameplay that isn't cookie cutter calculated open world tropes?

I know I for sure would love a game with horizons art style but with a more monster hunter gameplay philosophy as opposed to Ubisoft.

I did not know much stuff about Enslaved, just that it was reviewed well I think, and I never even heard about Zoids. I guess the Horizon designers might have had some inspiration from there, while it does not look copied. Transformers also had a dino line, so that probably inspired the Zoids guys...
And I guess post apocalyptic nature and cities inevitably look the same. So screenshots from Enslaved can probably also look similar to Last of Us, Resistance... if only that is shown.
But this does look insanely close in those defining enemies, effects, clothes designs, including the nonsenscial ceremonial head stuff, no tribesman ever would wear just casually. Doesn't matter that the gameplay is different. The whole design team did nothing but take core elements from Horizon's language and alter it almost not at all.

I don't know, I think Palworld, or Starcraft and such things should not exist, not when it's that blatant, but locking up even unique designs might also be too much at some point. Sona Buvelle from LoL might have a similar hair color as Hatsune Miku but looks a bit different. You can't avoid some shade of green and two ponytails at some point if you try to not have only regular blonde, brown, black haired heroes and have a ton of characters.
But altering it a bit, mix it with other stuff. So it's not entirely one game that's being riped off.
This game is not an actual copy of every little detail either, sure, but it looks like Horizon, and does not look like Enslaved which makes their argument just pointless.

I dont give a shit about tencent, i do give a shit about whatever precedent this could set

Well I care about the usual copyrino from china. They take alot of shortcuts to get successful in all fucking sectors and its super anoying.

Generally i agree though.

I do too, when they're actually copying something 1:1 or stealing technology. But something dumb such as likeness? Like i said, this is a slippery slope. Even in this thread you see people already "slipping" to imply nintendo is right against Palworld as an example.

I agree the game isn't particularly unique, on the contrary, the HZD developer has clearly done its own "copying" from other games... But with that said, the blatant copying from Tencent here is over the top, and it also fuels a Chinese stereotype.

yep, but Nintendo even has a stronger case than Sony since the whole assets were ripped from Pokemon creature's assets. While Moritam is just a similarly looking design without any stolen assets.

Theres no evidence they stole assets, and the guy who did those comparisons already admited to resizing those models to make them fit better. So much so nintendo's case isnt even about assets, its over a handful of awfully generic game mechanics.

See, the difference is, this is showelvare made by people that don't have any money to pay settlements.
and they probably didn't approach Sony first trying to license Uncharted…

some people here are being purposely obtuse as to what this is really about because they just hate Sony

No they mostly just went "Hey we are actually from Arabia. Surely we can do a better game than those westerners!"

And let's be real. If Sony really cared they wouldn't have allowed it to be released on the PS3.

People talking about Zoids.

Those toys were cool, but the Marvel comic was even cooler - the whole Black Zoid Saga was fantastic (basically taking cues from Terminator, The Thing, and Alien).
