Apple Event - 'Awe dropping' | Sept 9, 10am PT

No Titanium for the Pro models is where they lost me. No upgrade for sure.
More like an admission that titanium was a fuckup but they had to couch it in terms of an upgrade.

Really uninspiring and I think the design of the Pro phone is ugly. Not to mention the Liquid Ass iOS redesign. Apple needs some new blood in there.

Regarding the new iPhone air and the new magsafe battery to help it get through the day

Does anyone think that new strap that hangs your iphone down like a purse will take off into a new fashion trend?
I saw some of them showing it off and it was both silly looking and smart. A phone leashed to your neck so you can't drop it.

If titanium was a fuck-up, why did they use it on the new Air model?
Because titanium has strengths and minuses, which make it well suited for a thin device with a smaller battery and thus lower power thresholds and poorly suited for a high end device designed to run at high spec

yea zoomers are that dumb

But both the new Pro and Air are packing the same A19 Pro chip?

It was a genuine question.
titanium is stronger which is good for a thin device. But it doesn't dissipate heat as well as aluminum. A lot of people complained about recent iPhones throttling and getting too hot. So they are going back to aluminum. But keeping titanium for a device that will probably be designed to run slower and throttle because it is thinner and has a smaller battery.

Just placed my orders and I'll have my new phone next Friday! :messenger_sunglasses:

I have 13 Pro, if anything I might upgrade to 16e for Apple Intelligence (lol), I doubt anything else is worth it. Air looks cool but 1300€, wtf.

Had to wait 10 minutes before I could access the app, surprised to find the shipping date for this was already pushed back by a week while the Air was readily available. Don't mind going to the store though, they normally handle the lines well enough.

Do you shoot lots of 4K video to use the 1TB storage?

Constantly everyday, my 512GB is already at 400GB used. I could delete more videos but I prefer to have them readily available on my phone and not have to worry about storage. I'm also selling my current phone for a good price so I figured I'd do the 1TB this time.

I just bought a 16 Pro Max last January so I will not be upgrading this year but the 17 pro max looks nice. I like that orange.

I ordered two phones exactly the same and within like 4 minutes of each other.
One phone says your order will be available soon. Delivers Fri Sept 19.
The other one say your order is being prepared for shipment. Delivers Fri Sept 19.
I see a pending charge for one of them but not the other. Not sure if this is normal but I hope I get both phones this week.

edit: now both say preparing to ship!

iOS 26 is out and it looks amazing.

I was clowning on the Liquid Glass but they ironed out a lot of the issues and it looks beautiful. It's mesmerizing at times, the way the icons shine and move when you tilt the phone. And the glass effect is beautiful.

Safari looks amazing too, extremely minimal so more screen real estate for the websites.

Safari on iOS 26 continues to be terrible. The way it handles position sticky is absolutely broken now. Especially when you open then close virtual keyboard. Ridiculous.

Correction: it's not only Safari. Same behaviour on Chrome, so it's a system issue. For fucks sake.

I also picked up my case at the Apple Store today in preparation. I did their new woven case, hoping it's improved over their previous disaster.

I don't go near iOS versions for at least a few months.

Decided to get the Air with a bumper. iPhone 14 pro was good. If I hate it there will be another iphone next year lol.

So its as easy to steal as one of those handbags with the thin straps? yeh, great idea :pie_eyeroll:

I was considering the Air because it reminds me of the original iPod touch for some reason which at the time was state of the art, but there is no way I can forgive the mono speaker, I use my phone every day blaring out tunes or audio books/YouTube in the background, I'm not bothered about the actual stereo (lets face it you dont get too much stereo from a phone, but 2 speakers is better than one especially when that speaker is the earpiece speaker which in general is not as good as a dedicated speaker. Maybe reviews will change my mind but I just have a feeling that Apple is going to excuse it by saying you should always be using their earphones and not the speaker which reminds me of when Apple was at the forefront of getting rid of the 3.5mm headphone jack (I'm not too othered about that now, seeing as I have actually good bluetooth earphones)

If the Air had a larger screen similar or larger to the Pro Max I think I would have gotten It too, but the I heard about the mono speaker and it was no longer as appealing.
I ended up ordering the Blue 17 Pro Max. Several deals let me trade in my old phone for almost nothing. 2 bucks and some change to my bill.
BUT be warned you still have to pay full sales tax and any transfer fees. :(

Now I wait for October for them to send me a phone.

But the whole back of the phone was fucking glass. Aluminum can be strong especially in a unibody form factor which is what they're using now. I'm with you, I'd prefer titanium, but I have a feeling that might have been way more expensive.

I think I've made my decision (maybe), I think I only wanted the Air because it is something different (last phone was a Razr Ultra flip phone, before that I think it was my Pixel 6 pro, before that Oppo Reno 2 (shark fin motorised pop up camera), in the past I have had Windows Phones, a Linux Phone (Motorola ROKR E6) and I had the original Neonode N1 phone (that thing was tiny))
But the sacrifices are just too much, battery life ain't great, performance is so-so, just the single camera, and that single speaker (the main issue for me), its more expensive than the base iPhone 17 yet has fewer features/lower performance/less battery life)
My main use is probably YouTube, whether that's watching videos or listening to music, I also use my phone for watching Netflix/Prime/Disney+ before going to sleep at night, so I don't play games too much so performance isnt a massive factor, I do take the odd photo here and there though.

So, I've decided (currently have about a week to pull the trigger), and my choice is going to be.......... Samsung S25 Ultra (Yes, I know, not an iPhone at all, but with EE they are currently have the S25 Ultra on contract for less than the base iPhone 17 AND you also get a free 14" Samsung Chromebook). The 17 Pro phones are just very ugly to me, the AIr has too many sacrifices and the base phone is, just, boring (and, again, I want to watch lots of video so larger screen required), the Samsung is also boring but its very powerful, has amazing cameras, decent battery life, large screen and (like almost every phone since 2016) stereo sound. I'm still debating the Air though dammit, but is 'different' enough

If your main use is watching YouTube, then why not just buy something like the Nothing 3a, which is 250 EUR on sale, and invest the rest? I bought it to test my web app on a "cheap" device, and it ended up becoming my main phone.

Well that is the argument I give to my kids all the time, but those phones I buy outright, I personally have a contract and I have always had a somewhat powerful phone. I'm not really doing it to save money as such and don't mind paying around what I am currently paying monthly. In fact, after switching back from my Razr Ultra to my old Pixel 6 Pro I realised I missed much of what is compromised with that flip phone (much better camera for one). SO my dilemma is really, is it worth getting the iPhone Air just to have something a bit different worth it over the much more powerful S25 Ultra (and free 14" tablet), basically 'pretty' over 'powerful' is what it boils down to (not that the iPhone isnt powerful or that the S25 is ugly)

The search bar permanently on the bottom in settings bugs the fuck outta me. I need it to hide or shrink when I don't need to search.

Bendgate was such a massive pr nightmare that they were never going to let it happen again. Anyone who thought it would be easy to snap is a moron.

Battery life is going fine on mine so far. Took it off charge 8.5 hours ago and it's on 78%.

I'll be returning my Air on Monday, and waiting for my discount to reload to order a regular 17.
  • Beautiful phone, and the design really is stunning to hold and use but I actually dislike the thinness of the device as I don't feel like I have a good grip on it.
  • Battery life is questionable but it's not nearly as bad as you might think.
  • Speaker....holy shit it's bad and as somebody that does play music and podcasts out loud at home this is a big part of my decision.
  • It has gotten hot multiple times to the point it was sort of uncomfortable to hold. Once on a walk while listening to a podcast and browsing the web, and the other while trying out Destiny Rising.
