Jez Corden disputes Kepler’s Xbox handheld 10M units leak: “This isn’t even slightly true btw”

the only other thing that really gives me pause is the fact that SneakersSO only ever said next gen Xbox consoles where not a "sure thing", not that it absolutely wasn't going to happen. If I were a betting man.....flip a coin.
The way I see it is whatever SneakersSO says can be taken to the bank in sentiment terms. Doesn't mean they are sitting in the boardroom. Anyone who has ever been adjacent to a big corp as a close supplier/contractor etc knows the scuttlebutt isn't always the whole story. Especially when trying to divine C Suite decision making. But they are sitting a whole lot closer than we are and have the track record to prove it, so clearly its not business as usual as MS would like people to think. Which has been confirmed elsewhere. Which isn't the same as saying something is outright cancelled.

Im just going to say this: For MS gaming to have a future, Phil Sarah, Booty and Greenberg should be be fired pronto. Otherwise, with them at helm, MS gaming will be another Mixer

I've always like Thurrott. Dude is a no-nonsense guy who has covered Microsoft for a really long time. Not surprised he doesn't put a lot of stock in Microsoft's PR statement.

So it's 100% confirmed true since this clown has zero credibility.

Jiz isn't an insider, he gets his info from officially pre-approved MS sources. Aka, PR delivery as deemed fit by the Corp. Completely useless.

This is why proper insiders are so valuable, giving the raw info not meant to be made public.

No one believes MS anymore, the brand is poop on the sidewalk, Third Parties have to be pissed, and as a wise man said once: "We are not growing the industry with 1000USD consoles."

It isn't just these guys, but when you've got folks like this who are emphasizing the fact that Microsoft cannot be trusted then this just highlights the doubt everyone has for all of this. These are stalwarts in the Xbox community.

Microsoft has a trust problem

Why would AMD require 10M units though?

All, I mean all PC handhelds cumulate to roughly 6M units

Agreed (and I followed all the replies to this but still have a hard time buying the logic.) Memes joking on Jez are fun and all, but ordering 10mil units off the bat for a product line targeting that space seems wildly overreaching. Even Nintendo used generally existing components for its Switch builds. I don't get why MS even started the process if they knew 10mil was going to asked for, or why AMD would have taken the initial steps if they knew the wheels would stop as soon as 10mil came up.

They always have.

Paul Thurrott(the guy on the right) covers MS for a living, and if he's laughing about the entire Xbox making another console then they are done with hardware essentially. He knows the writing is on the wall despite MS saying otherwise.

It's seemed super obvious for a few years now and a lot of us have been saying it. The counter point from "insiders" is that R&D was being done, but if that was a good indicator, no one would ever get of the hardware treadmill. That's not to say that Microsoft can't go against the obvious (that's largely been the Xbox strategy for close to a decade), but it seems like the Activision Blizzard acquisition put a spotlight on the Xbox division they weren't expecting and will be the ruination of the brand. Careful what you wish for.

Paul is on the right, Brad Sams is left.

Yeah...? There were no new games prior to this date. And Oblivion was out long before it was Microsoft.

What a bunch of copium. Oblivion remastered. Who was it under?

No new games? Nice throwing Death Stranding 2 under the bus. So Sony is absent for entirety of Q1 and Q2. Nice!

Such great tastes PlayStation fans have. Exquisite. Nobody can compete. What they consume since 1995:

Adam Sandler Halloween GIF by Netflix Is a Joke

Its the most fucking mainstream of consoles and you dare tell us they have refined taste, lol!

The answer is very simple.
They ask for 10m minimum because they don't want to do it.
Xbox brand is at its lowest value right now and commiting factory allowance, resources, workers, etc to something that will be killed in less than a year is not very appealing.

I mean why would anyone take the risk after being proven wrong 74 times already ? Just say" ok okay, we'll see what happens" and move on
These are all shills whose livelihood mostly depends on Xbox. You can't really blame them for going down with the ship. Still fun to point and laugh at them.

Another shill ready to bite the dust.

I mean it can happen, but what's the point in the end?
Prolong the suffering?

A new console is no longer a "gen reset", crossgen will be even longer this time, and Series S will become an even bigger problem for Xbox when devs start targeting next-gen specs.
Devs will have to waste even more time optimising a game for 3 very different specs knowing that sales for those 3 will be considerably less than on Playstation and Series S has to be the lowest base spec.

If they remove the Series S requirement, consumers will get angry because a lot of Series install base is Series S, if they don't, devs won't even bother with any Xbox version because the install base of the next-gen console will be minimal and Xbox has no bargaining power anymore.

Well, basically it's better for MS if they stop producing Xbox hardware, as that eliminates the costs and opens up the Playstation and Nintendo markets to all the games their studios develop. They just need to convince Sony and Nintendo to allow Game Pass. Or they'll throw Game Pass out the window and stick with traditional game distribution.

Gamepass will never happen on PlayStation or Switch.

MS can have a healthy future publishing games on them though.

People do not seem to understand that building the hardware and selling the hardware are two separate things. You can have a team working on hardware R&D but the decision to actually sell it is a separate, discrete decision. Stuff gets canceled all the time. Apple spent tens of billions of dollars and like a decade working on a car and one day shitcanned it. It's just how it goes.
