I kind of feeling like the days of general console wars is over now, and there's a few Jezzy DooDoos who kind of survived off of it, trying to stay afloat.
I quit social media many moons ago now, but in general, with the gaming clan I am a part of and all the people I used to play with when I had time to be on every night, the whole "this is better than that" narrative has kind of faded.
Most games are Multiplatform now, and honestly, I think it's great, more people getting to play together and play a great game like HellDivers 2, for example, is only a good thing.

I would say, after the decision to make gamepass 10€/$10 more expensive, someone at MS wanted to see xbox die. How could they not see that this would create a big backlash? $1-2 and peope would already talk negative but might have accepted this, abut $10 (10€ in the EU) is much, much harder.
Also they make switching to Linux much easier, when "xbox"-pc games are no longer an option.
xbox is needed to have competition to sony, but this .... well ... sony already showed they get really greedy when they are more or less left alone on the console market, but now MS is given them the whole market for free. Nintendo is its own category.

is right. The ship started to teeter and we rocked it a bit but they are too rich and stupid to cancel this like they should. M$ will put this new Xbox steambox out and it will sink in the next few years, but don't put any eggs in the basket of them canceling the next hardware. That will only give our co-hobbyist (friend) Xboxer's hope when it does come out and push the inevitable demise another month or two down the road. We haven't won anything yet. Sony and/or Nintendo could snatch defeat from the jaws of victory somehow. Gotta stay vigilant. Meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two imposters just the same. Never falter never fail. Hope for the best, sure, but prepare for the worst.

I'm not saying "Leave Jez alone," but I don't want to kick the guy when he's down. I'm sure he's anxious about his future as things crumble around him. I don't blame him. But I also see that he got himself involved in a sick system, and this is what sick systems will do to a person. Based on recent actions like two price hikes in around 6 months, game prices increasing, first party games going multiplatform, Gamepass price increases, $1000 portable device, mismanagement, studio closures, canceled games, etc it seems like Microsoft are the ones who want XBOX to die more than the consumers.

If Sony and Xbox were the only platforms to play games on, then Xbox dying would mean a monopoly for Sony. That's clearly not the case. As well, while Xbox was 'competition' to Sony - they did absolutely everything they possibly could to drive customers off their platform to Sony, Nintendo, and PC. MS represents a direction in gaming where things like consolidation, games as a service (Game Pass, Cloud gaming), frequent price increases (on all fronts), lack of focus on game quality (how you play is more important than what you play, etc.) are the norm. Yet, somehow, it's Sony we need to worry about becoming terrible in this scenario.
