honestly this, I don't understand why people get so riled up about things they can just disable (ditto with all the people who rail against trophies/achievements as if you can't just ignore them)

But I am sure when done right, it's fantastic. But when it's not, it makes a game not playable imo.

What's false, my impressions? it's literally just vibrations, slightly more detailed vibrations that add little to nothing. No different from other gimmicks like having the controller flash red/blue when the cops are after you in GTAV.

That light bar was kinda shit wasnt it? always had a glare on my screen if im directly in front of it

Agreed, they're horrible. The haptic feedback in the controller if executed properly is amazing, but I turn off the adaptive triggers immediately.

I'm gonna say...I like the triggers, like the vibration, dislike the battery life.

I have 4 in 2 rotations due to battery life and my attempt to keep them feeling fresh.

One good thing about the controller is it is tough as shit.

I game in my shop which has a concrete floor. I have dropped them many times but never had an injury to one. It did get too cold in there during a blackout and the rubber surrounding the inside of the start and share buttons gets stiff and will actually disturb the little rubber banding that manages that button, after which it will never be the same, but that's about it.

I personally feel it was criminally underutilized, and should have been made a central gameplay mechanic in a shooter.

Variable trigger pulls are an extremely important thing in firearms operation. An entire mechanic could and should be made around it.
Oh, well.

Sometimes its a bit too much in BL4 (Ripper guns are annoying) but mostly I like the implementations of it, makes firing guns feel more... something lol its good imo

Eh, I've liked the feature in enough games, does add some immersion. Usually it's pretty easy to turn off.

Best one for me was in the Horizon games for pulling back the bow to add tension and then release. Fits that kind of weapon that you don't keep firing rapidly.

Since switching to the PS5, I also have noticed that the battery life on the controller is unbelievably poor. I have always preferred batteries that can be removed, but if your going to have a built in battery, it better be amazing.

In direct comparison to the switch 2 pro controller, its lifespan is embarrassing.

Why? Why is the battery in the PS5 controller, so absolutely trash? I'll play a few hours(2-3 hours) on helldivers with friends, and if I don't plug it in afterwards, the very next play session, im playing with a cord attached. Why? What the hell kind of shit battery are they using? Recycled ones? Tiny ones? Inferior materials?

Because if he just turned it off he wouldn't have an opportunity to get on GAF and shit on PlayStation.

That being said.

I leave it on depending on the game. Shooters get turned off but many games I leave it on. Gran Turismo for example I actually turned it off for R2/Acceleration because it got tiring to fight it for fucking 30 minute races but I leave it on a lower setting for L2/Brake. I think they enhance quite a few games.

I generally use my Edge for shooters and have a FPS profile that has it set to off because I don't like it and use the trigger stops anyway. Weirdly enough I actually prefer my regular DualSense over the Edge. Same goes for my regular Xbox controller over my Elite. Not sure why.

The haptics are fab and I really like the resistance on the triggers. I know it's not ideal when playing competitive but it just feels a little more immersive when they are well implemented, although it's probably more suited to single player games. There have also been clever implementations used for secondary functions on the triggers in games like Returnal and Rift Apart. I don't get the hate aside from the fact that it's not a function of the Xbox ecosystem. You can bet your ass that there would be a lot more positive comments if Microsoft also implemented active triggers.

Played many games on it. Of course. Only had a PS5 for a few months.

The triggers sucks so hard. Not the buttons themselves. The rumble vibration nonsense. I'm sure I can turn it off. I hope

It's an exaggeration lol but it FEELS wrong. Off. I'm sure if done right. It's fine. But in GTA V it's absolutely awful. Maybe 30 years of pressing a simple trigger button has me programmed.

I played the Spider-Man 2 on the PS5 for the first time at my sister's house and the dualsense controllers felt way more impactful than current rayrtracing. It is the one thing that tempts me to buy a PS5, but like with the dualshock 4, I feel the feature won't be fully utilized in most games.

Actually, in my experience, DS4 felt like it had better triggers than Dual Sense does. I remember reading that Sony took Bungie's feedback in designing the DS4 and it shows, that controller was pretty decent for shooters.

The worse part about the Dualsense triggers isn't the adaptive part, because in some games it's actually cool. It's the fact that there is zero tension at all, and they feel flimsy otherwise and poorly designed because Sony was so enamored with their tech they didn't think about the fact 99% of games don't use their features.

I've only found the Dualsense triggers compelling in first party games. I usually disable the tricks in third party games since they don't usually make good use of them.

Perhaps, but you could say that about any fanbase as pretty much every console has used "gimmicks" at one time or another. I don't see how haptics are gimmicks though

When I was still using the DS3 back in the day, I had L2/R2 extenders attached to it, which made it feel a lot better. Like these: (not my pic)

DS4 was a lot better by default, by comparison.

Yeah, DS4 was the better controller all around. DS3 felt like it was missing its bottom half
