Why would one and series not be native compatible? imho that's not even a question at all since those are close enough to just have frequency modes and new AI crap unused in a future FakeXbox-PC. Windows lost compatibility with some Win95/98/ME programms and games the last time, moving to NT/2000 with XP, ever since then they drag along everything I think. Probably with some games needing some patches to properly work. Same will be possible with anything AMD keeps cooking.
Wasn't there also some weird mainboard made for some specific task I can't remember with a PS4 APU and deactivated GPU where it worked running Windows (or Linux)? Anyway, once it is x86 it is very compatible.

they are not compatible on PC.

That is such a great question with what's coming

Does having other storefronts mean PC?

Does playing all your old Xbox library mean console?

If it plays GTA 6 day one when there is no PC version what does it make it?

Lines are going to be blurry for sure

In a way it reminds me of this.

Instead of being an Amstrad computer with a MegaDrive tacked on, this is a powerful Windows PC with previous-gen Xbox tacked on for BC (obviously with a more living room friendly aesthetic)

Ill throw you a even more strange question...

If nextbox is only a glorified PC with emulation (just I suspected, btw...), this will break Rockstart strategy for double dips and etc... will this make releases like GTA a de facto PS exclusive? If that happens, won't we (we = users) have even more reasons to buy a PS5/6 if we know that games like GTA will be released first on Sony's machine ?! We know for history that 'first > better' in terms of performance. Good lord, MS is so lost on this one (and it's 100% their blame)

That's actually a pretty good question. Like, why in hell would anyone buy a regular gaming PC with an Xbox skin on it?

Unless it's cheaper than a proper high end PC of the time because Microsoft's subsidizing it (which we all know the Xbox division can't afford anymore) or maybe, by some miracle, this "Xbox PC" could squeeze out extra performance from the hardware, but let's be real, Windows doesn't work like that.

So who's this thing even for? Collectors of PC case skins? The whole idea reminds me of those cheesy laptops and desktops from the late '90s and early 2000s with Hot Wheels or Barbie themes for kids.

Prebuilt SFF PCs are being sold at prices $2000 and above.

No subsidies required for it to be cheaper than those. Unless you're assuming it's massively more powerful than the equivalent PS6.

Have you never heard of a mini PC?
This thing plays PC games. Consoles do not.

This thing will play your console games. Your PCs will not 😆

Well, either i am doing a very poor job of explaining it or we are not on the same page, and that is fine. I can drop memory chips and standard NVMEs in a laptop. Wifi cards etc. This has been explained to me that it completely designed like a console. I could be wrong, but from my understanding the hardware approach has been done like a console. Completely custom.

But yes, what is a PC and what is a console. If you could install sonys APIs and OS onto a laptop, does it now become a console and visa versa. If you could install linux on a PS5....is it now a PC?

If you could install Linux or Windows on a ps5, would you say it as it is now a PC?

Plenty of laptops are not expandable or changeable at all. That doesn't make them less of a PC. If it runs an open operating system like Windows then you can do whatever you want with it. They are making money on the hardware so they don't care. Consoles have to make money on game sales so they prevent you from doing that. The PS5 on a hardware level is no different than many PCs so if it could suddenly run Windows then how would it not then just be a PC?

The thing is it's still an Xbox at the core and will be marketed as an Xbox.

Traditional PC gamers aren't the targeted audience for an Xbox product, you would agree?

Only for BC games.

Rest is Windows.

Full screen Xbox app will roll out across Windows 11 for everyone, not just Xbox.

So it's just a PC. Cool already got one. Thanks for saving me money Xbox. Not that I'd buy another xbox again after they went multi platform anyway.

Sounds great IMO. Steam, installing Pcsx2/RPCS3 on it? Getting the PS exclusives after 1-2-3 years? Free online?
Of course this thing will be expensive as hell but the value is there and if true, its something that we haven't seen before.
Sounds tempting, need to hear it all details from Microsoft. Let's see if Playstation can come with a few bangers for the PS6 now.

It'll be a Super Series X that also has full Windows.

Only real question is if any parts of the hardware can be upgraded. I'm thinking no. Its a console (or fixed spec pre-built PC) that has full Windows, and thus only PC games. Semantics at the end of the day. Doesnt really matter.
Pretty much if it comes with an APU, they are banking on you getting a new machine in about 3-5 years' time I would imagine, depending on how current you want to stay. Probably 5 years max before aging and creakiness really sets in.

I can't wait to see how Jez spins the first reports of virus' targeting this "Xbox". He's probably getting in contact with the Wuhan information ministry as we speak.

It will be pitched as an Xbox console that runs Windows, based on an x86 AMD APU like the Xbox One and Series consoles. Why would licensing fees be required in that scenario?

There's probably a reason why they're confidently stating it'll have BC.

Depends on what this thing actually is. Microsoft confidently says all kinds of shit. If it is a PC and has console BC then they will have figured it out and got the publishers on board. If it is actually a traditional Xbox console with other stores available, as has been suggested multiple times, then the contractual aspect was never an issue.

It seems obvious that Microsoft is convinced Steam will come out with a SteamBox and this is actively trying to prevent them from gaining market share.

We've heard this before... it's called a PC.

?? GTA 6 Will be released on XSeries. The situation you're describing will never happen, or it will be for GTA 7 (2040??) but not for GTA 6, which you'll be able to play on the new Xbox via BC.

When a next-gen version of GTA6 is released, there will likely already be a corresponding PC version that will also be playable on it.

This sounds… terrible. Xbox Ally is just regular Windows with a compact mode for Xbox App. nothing more. It's not big screen mode Windows.

And that's not at all like Steam Deck like the article says. You never gets pushed out of big screen mode into Linux on Steam Deck. But you get pushed out of Xbox App whenever a game throw up a dialogue box or if you go to another launcher without big screen mode, at that point you're sitting there tapping a tiny Windows screen with minuscule checkboxes.

They need to create a compact mode for Windows!

Needs to be seamless like SteamOS, not like ROG Ally X.

I saw a video of a Giant Bomb guy having issues logging into his device. It was stuck on the Windows sign in screen where you enter the pin. Ghetto as FUCK.

I used it on my Legion Go. They are light years from where they need to be

Hardware BC....Reminds me of the PS3 fat.

It was "get a second job" to afford it back then, how many jobs do would we need when this monster is shat out?

Actually I guess I can just tape a laptop to a series X, and I have the same thing already...

100% this, line is very blurry
Always waiting for everything to be defined and known. I still believe there will be more limitations due to licensing issues with studios and publishers.

But in this regard, perhaps you're referring to a Next-Gen version? Because you'll be able to play GTA 6 on the first day of that XBOX next because there will be an XSeries version.

When Rockstar releases a Next-Gen version of GTA 6, there will likely already be a PC version of that game.

So they basically want to be Alienware.... because we all know how amazing that worked out.

it would make sense of the rumors of the next "xbox" being over $1000 then, because it will just be a PC :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Will it really? Think about money, not from a gamer perspective. Rockstar KNOWS a lot of players double dip GTA. If this MS strategy breaks Rockstar double dip strategy, Im not 100% that we will have a xseries GTA 6 version.
